I've been using the Mach 3 for quite a while, I got a Fusion 5 proshield limited edition today. I've had no problems with the Mach 3, but the proshield has an extra blade on the back for styling and making nice and sharp edges. It's pretty much the only reason I got it.
From personal experience Gillette peaked with the Mach 3 Turbo. It shaves just as good as the Fusion does, it's easier to clean out and the blades are cheaper and last just as long. Before that the Sensor Excel and Atra Plus also worked just fine. Adding more and more blades is a sales gimmick that worked for cartridge razors until the blade count became ridiculous. They have 6 blade razors now and you just don't need that many.
Yah, like that. MORE blades does not seem to shave better, but what do I know since almost all my disposables I've used in last three years been Gillette Fusion Five.
Seemed to me the Fusion 5 didn't cut as much in a single stroke. I noticed it was a much cleaner initial cut on the Mach 3 Turbo while the Fusion 5 required more strokes over an area to get it.
I have used both for very long time, shaving almost every day cuz I my job required it. Both are equally good, they deliver the same results. The Fusion is perhaps more comfy to use, but the difference in price doesn't justifies it.
Great review and much respect for sacrificing your beard and mustache. I use fusion 5 and I have noticed that even though is much more expensive the blades can last me up to 2 months easily without doing any razor bumps and match 3 won't last more than a few weeks and I need to replace after. Also the vibration does make a difference for me as I get irritation without it. Again that's just on me people is entitle to their opinions just wanted to help adding some observations from my experience with both.
When I started wet shaving, I used a Mach 3 Turbo and did for years then tried the original fusion as an alternative and found it to be a bit More comfortable but found it to miss some places just under the jaw area that The Mach 3 did with ease, so went back to a Mach 3 Turbo. Then I decided to give the Fusion another go when the flexball version came out and although it still suffers that same issue as the original under my jaw, I find that by going a few different directions, that I can overcome that issue but I definitely feel way more comfortable shaving with the Fusion with flexball than a Mach 3 and feel it gets a touch closer. I'd not go back to the Mach 3 now.
Freakin' Reviews I think you can cut yourself more easily with the Fusion than the Mach 3, in my experience I've found it, mostly when I switched to the 5 blade from the 3. Both are great razor's though. I'd use a Mach 3 again but not as my daily razor.
Hi James as a women I prefer the Mach 3 even against any of the women razors it out lasts everything else and doesn’t nick me even if I’m in a hurry. I’ve been using it for years and still love it thank you for sharing 😊👍❤️
This video came up as a RU-vid recommendation. I use a Mach 3 occasionally but for the most part use a double edge razor. The benefits a lot cheaper 100 blades for $10, less irritation and no plastic to go into the landfill. Give it a go you won’t regret it
Two advantages of cartridge razors of all sorts are (1) When traveling, and (2) for head shaves if done frequently enough. I generally prefer traditional double edge razors, at least for face shaves.
Amazing how different you look!! Gotta feel cooler in that extreme heat. Your wife got a new man😃Thanks for the review, I'll show it to my husband. Happy 4th of July🇺🇸
Im 22 and i havnt been much of a shaver.ive had a bad experience with shaving as i didnt think spending money on shaving products really mattered. I usually just use an electric shaver and keep my stubble. My gf just bought me the gillete fusion proglide with the gillete sensitive + skincare and i have to say gilletes new technology really takes the lead in the shaving world. Spending money on the top gillete products really shows how quality over takes quantity. it was the fastest shave and by far the most comfortable ive had. It took me 30 seconds to finish my entire face and i barely had to go over any spots. Most importantly i didnt end up with any red irritation marks on my lower neck wich i always came across with previous shavers. 10/10 for me and hands down and the fusion PROGLIDE is my favorite shaver so far.
I've tried them all to shave my head and under my beard, the best I've found is Gillette Sensor 2 Plus. It's thin, shaves closer than the Mach 3 Turbo and gets those tougher to reach areas around the ears and under the neck area.
I am using proglide power and the blade lasts for 4 months. The vibration makes it smooth for hard beard. I got very clear skin after every shave because of vibration. The Mac 3 is good and degrade the quality of shave as the blade gets older. Proglide power is better for me.
Good test comparison, thanks man. And, btw, "Road to Hana" = da kine, brah! That's a beautiful drive! BTW, it's been 5 years since you posted this vid so you may have already moved on to newer razors. I used the Mach 3 (both with and without the power feature) and the Fusion 4 but the 4-blade replacements aren't as readily available or as inexpensive as the newer 5-blade replacements which I now use and which also fit the Fusion 4 handle. Both the 4- and 5-blade razors - for me - provide a significantly better, closer shave than the 3-blade model. But, be careful about where you buy your replacement blades. Some IMHO are counterfeits and are nowhere as good as genuine Gillette. Interesting note, my older sis went to high school with Nancy Gillette - yep, the one and the same Gillette family.
Jasper Jones dude im relatively new to headshaving i have only been doing it for about 6 or 8 weeks and i also had NEVER used a manual razor in my 15 years of shaving. Dude. The clogging of the blades on the fusion is absolutely killer, it actually doubles the time it takes me to shave. Being a new head shaver it takes me close to 45 mins (about every 4 days) and half of that is trying to unclog the blades, its actually immensely frustrating. I have a mach 3 turbo that i ordered on the way as we speak. If clogging bothers you, the fusion is a no go for headshaving
For all of you that love the Fusion other than the "trimmer" blade on the backside (I personally hate it and have cut my nose with it too many times when shaving above my lip) Gillette has a line out for the ladies called"Joy" and they are the same 5 blade cartridges minus the "trimmer" blade and MUCH less expensive than the regular "Fusion" cartridges (YES the "Joy" cartridges DO fit the Fusion handles)
I think the fusion 5 pro shield power because the battery is great it shaves real smooth and it has more blades so that you can get a better shaving experience. with the mach 3 turbo I don’t think it deserves to be called the turbo because it doesn’t shave as nice as the fusion 5 and also you cannot use it to shave thick beards because the blades are not as far as the fusion 5 there is one thing that the mach 3 turbo can do better than the fusion 5 and that is that the blades don’t clog up as much so you can shave longer but other than that I don’t think this is ready for prime time. @Freakin’ Reviews I’m sorry but I don’t like the mach 3 turbo that much
I thrashed my old Mach3 back in January when I discovered in a Gillette advert that I was actually toxic. I now use Bic Flex 4 which shaves better at a third of the price of the Gillette cartridges.
Ohh, so you identified with not the good but with the awful ones in that commercial hope you were vocal about it so ppl in your social circle knows (if they didn't already) who they're dealing with.
I use the turbo 3 works very well face and head. I didn't try the 5 blade just yet but I will soon also I got other razor I just got for Christmas so can't wait to use that but so far 3 blades doing very well Indeed. Great review. Love and Peace.
atomic punk 88 dude the clogging of the fusion is actually the worst. Its so bad it doubles the time it takes me to shave. I just bought the mach 3 turbo but havent used it yet
i remember gillete putting a random free mach 3 in my mailbox when it came out. it was good time. just purchased my proshield chill edition (no vibration) with some skingard blade today, great stuff.
@@calebbrook1348 i absolutely dont care. they never difused it in my country and i think it was a very touching tv spot when i saw it online on the net. people should stop being toxic on the net seriously. it is just a razor...
I am not against their products in fact I bought one of their razors today but so many are throwing out Gillette products due to the ad and was just wondering your opinion!
Proglide flexball or proshield chill and mach3 turbo, they are the best. Bbs head shave.in my videos I use Gillette fusion prosheild flexball chill or proglide flexball and mach3 turbo.skingard is good razor for sensitive skin. But not very smooth shave
for the head try the stronger SE Gem blade razors. less razor blade bounce and amazing sounding feedback with little to no clogging with the right razor.
And headblade moto is superior, fusion proglide o proshield they're good razors, but for shave head headblade moto or atx they are the best. Smooth, no irritation. I use fusion or Gillette skinguard for my face.
looks nice but did gillette stop producing mach 3 power razor??? The vibration is the secret ... 5 blades may be too much for the skin ..so mach 3 power with 3 blades is the best choice
My favorite razor is the Skinguard FlexBall because you will never ever get any irritation unless you literally try to cut yourself. Also anything more than 2 blades is kind of unnecessary.
I use both Mach 3 and Fusion Proglide they're both good. I only use the Mach 3 for only quick shaving, and I use my Fusion Proglide to get a more pro shave.
The Gillette ProGlide gives me the closest shave and glides through a week stubble with ease. The ProShield has more protection, but doesn't shave quite as closely. The Mach 3 Turbo is pretty good, but not as good as any Gillette 5 blade. The regular Mach 3 is a rough ride. Not a fan.
I have terrier literally every razer but for me the best shave I get is from the pro shield of we are talking about cartridges but i blue pro shield one for some reason lasts way longer for me
Best going on eBay and buying a Edwin Jagger DE89 Double Edge Razor or Merkur 34C Double Edge Razor and you can buy 100 Astra Superior Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades on eBay for around $10 with free postage and these razors are made from steel and last forever and never clog, the Edwin Jagger DE89 is made in the UK and the Merkur 34C is made in Germany, search eBay for them. And when shaving with a Double Edge Safety Razor, never apply pressure but let the weight of the razor do the work.
I have the Fusion 5 and was wondering if there was another that would be better, but didn't know if I should have tried something else, and was looking into trying the Mach 3, but you just answered my question. So I'm sticking with my Fusion 5. Thank you for your example and advice, it really did help me.
I am tending to decide to try Mach 3 next, but not done so yet. Just in case Mach 3 might clog less, I would want to try it and find out. Also, I would hope that the three-blade arrangement feel less scrapy than the five-blade arrangement.
Yes I use the Fusion 5, two of them came free in the mail as some kind of promo, went and bought 16 blades on eBay for half the cost in the store. I use soap not shaving creme so my blades end up lasting about 4 months a piece. The yellow part is something like soap so you don't want to rest it on something or it will get stuck to it. Best blade I have used.
It's been a month now, and I still use the Proshield Power the most. I just bought some refills for it, which are insanely expensive by the way! But the first blade lasted me about a month, so that should be factored into the cost. I feel ready to shift back to a safety razor for a while, though.
Crazy! Do you have coarse hair? That would be one reason I wouldn't switch to the Proshield. I too, have a DE. Though time constraints do not allow me to effectively get a proper shave in so cartridge is where I am at.
@@Freakinreviews I use the Pro Glide Fusion & love it. Use to buy the 8 cartridges at Costco but haven't seen them there. I then subscribed to it by buying it from Amazon. Pack of 8 is about $35 - $38 & you can choose between 2 to 6 months when you want to get refills. It is cheaper then buying it at stores
Thanks for your valuable comment Jonathan i used to have Match 3 original and then bought the fusion and it didn’t impress me i enjoy shaving with original match 3 and now I know what I want definitely i will go for Gillette Match 3 Turbo 😇😇😇😇😇👍🏻👍🏻 🌳🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌳
James you should keep the goatee. Looks good on ya, but do whatever you want, if you like the beard then grow it back. I don't have facial hair besides a mustache but I'll never shave that. I did once and I hated it. Thanks for the sacrifice on your beard for this video, It'll grow back.
I tried fusion 5 for a several times, but I kept coming back to my Mach 3, fusion 5 is just so harsh especially on the neck area leaving me with a raw burning sensation...
Do pharmacies have to consult with Gillette before putting their razors on a much lower than normal sale price, like if they decided to sell them for six dollars compareed to 22?
the proshield clog's faster due to more blades as they are way closer than mach 3 3 blades i like them both thopugh expensive as hell the blades though
Emily A i have been using the fusion for 6 or 8 weeks to shave my head and it clogs so bad. I do have relatively thick hair i guess and i dont shave my head every day, but the blades clog after 2 passes. So its one pass at a time and its such a pain to get the hair out. I wont buy another fusion, even though its ultra smooth and had a good weighty feel to it, it actually doubles the time that it takes me to shave my head
Hello I'm French I do not understand English well! the conclusion of your test? what is the best razor? howhich of the two shaves closest to a BBS? fusion or mach 3? fusion better with these 5 blades? or is it the same? thank you very much and sorry
Wow, I've never had the urge to watch someone shave their face before. Good vid. I have extremely thick Italian horsehair on my face and could hardly believe you did so much without hitting your skin with a hot towel. In fact, if you have sensitive skin, you ought to try shaving with a towel or right after a hot shower. I used a two-blader until my 20's and was enchanted the first time I used the Mach 3. Turned a 30-minute shave to a 5-minute shave. Wanted to see if 5-blade was worth it. (Doesn't seem so.)
After using it for 3 days now ... I like proshield... the flexball makes it move easier .. around contours it shaves very close and moves smoothly on my skin ... Yet , Mach 3 turbo still very good for much much lower price Narrower blades of proshield doesn't make any problem for me while shaving coz I Don't have " hairy " face ... So If I choose I would say Proshield for performance, Mach 3 turbo for the money
next comparison load up a double edge safety razor and enjoy the shave man!!! those multi blade cartridges are uncomfortable. I use them when i fly and use carry on only... about once a year. its funny how i almost forget how to shave with them after using DE Razors. I suppose I do understand why you can't bring DE razor blades on a plane... on one trip I acutally mailed 2 De razor blades to the hotel so i'd have them when I got there.
Question? I have an extraordinary thick beard. I struggle to get a clean shave usually shaving the same spot three or four times. Can you suggest a razor and blades?
I have gotten back to shaving the 'old fashioned way' might go to Harry's...but this vid and the Mach3 turbo might be better..Using a Gillette 5 blade and it is just so-so. Willing to experiment and not go crazy
Would it be safe to use this on the "bush" surrounding the "coconut tree." *Not* the fuzzy coconuts; the fuzzy bush below the tree. Tree? No. Cocunuts? No. The bushy perimeter of the tree, yes. Get it?
Good video! Mach3 turbo is the best razor for my head. No razor burn,cuts.3 blades is perfect!fusion I like, but mach3 turbo is very close shave.for my head I use cremo and headslick, with mach3 turbo bbs 14 hours! By and very good video.by
This by far is the best!, review I've seen in terms of blades and shave ... after trying Harry's blades i have to conclude that Gillette Pro Glide razors are way more comfortable, sharper and a smoother shave that lasts for a longer period of time .... net result, "you get what you pay for" ... I'll remain a Gillette man."
That's why I use DE razors. It cuts through any thick beard growth without having to trim it first. If the electric razor is doing all the work then what is the use of buying these expensive razors which will 'tug'.
