When I was in Highschool the show was on three of four times a day it's one of the true classic sitcoms I also loved the Munsters and Beverly hillbillies what a great era for comedy that was.
Dawn Wells looks the same even til today, she was my favourite of the 2 but they were all great in their roles. Funny that the show almost didn't make it but now it's a classic & beyond. Sad that all are gone except for Marianne & Ginger. Poor Jim, an actor from way back well before Gilligan's Island. Most of these actors starred in great movies & shows before. They could never remake it , it would never be the same. I loved the episode where Gilligan found the radioactive vegetables & they all had side-effects, it was hilarious. Never make shows like this anymore.
I loved each and every character, but my favorite was always Alan Hale Jr., cause he's so genuine. Each character made the show the great show that it was though.
It is interesting to see all of these wonderful actors in other shows throughout the years. I remember seeing Russell Johnson in a number of westerns over the years.
Alan Hale was just a wonderful human being who enjoyed life and brought genuine happiness wherever he went. The world also was blessed that people like Sherwood Schwartz and Garry Marshall cared about making fantastic, wholesome shows that were pure entertainment and clean fun.
This was really nice to see. On the net these days, you see all sorts of vids about what co-stars "really thought of each other" ... and it was never good. Love that these people seemed to like genuinely really like each other other, even more than their fictional characters did perhaps (except for Tina Louise maybe). Like so many, ran home from school to catch re-runs of this show growing up. Good memories.
This is great. I didn't realize Tina Louise came back for this...maybe it included getting to promote her new project, but thought she was lovely and seemed to appreciate that time in her life. And they were all together. Still mind blowing it was only three years and the premier happened around the JFK assasination🤔
Alan Hale God Bless him, embraced this character and ADORED the fans. You can see the HUGE smile on his face as they applauded him and cheered. He was so not Hollywood. He never or seemed to never let his ego dominate him nor did any bitterness. People like him are not found in Hollywood anymore. He was a rare and amazing man. We miss you Skipper. To get to see the Skipper whap Gilligan once more with the hat was awesome. Thank you so much for this video.
I got to go to his restaurant back in time. Think it was called Lands End. He made it a point to walk by tables with kids. " Hey little fellow " he said as I tried not to act star struck with big old smile. Shame they did not get residuals .
@@trevormiles5852 , I heard or read somewhere that Dawn Wells was the only cast member to have the royalties of re-runs put in her contract before signing. So she continued to receive income from the show every time it was aired.
Yes he did, and I've heard other stories from a few different sources of Bob Denver standing up for people who he observed were being treated unfairly. One time in particular according to one of his "Dobie Gillis" costars his standing up for a person who was being treated unfairly caused him to get beat up by some people. But she said even in the midst of the beating Bob didn't back down. Remember Bob Denver was a teacher before he became a full time actor. He cared deeply about what was right.
What kind of playthings did Bob Denver and Dawn Wells never possess? If you said it was these Mattel's Hot Wheels toy cars, color racers, say, you're right. Since they never had one 2 door sports coupe in their later life.
I'm so glad they did this reunion in 1988 when they did. It's really sad knowing that Jim Backus would pass away only one year later, Alan Hale a year after that, and Natalie Schafer a year after that.
I'm happy that Tina showed! That was very special! I love each and every one of those actors. I can't believe that show only ran 3 years! Seems like it could have ran forever. Sherwood Schwartz was a comedic genius!
God bless the souls of those awesome, classy and super talented cast members who have gone to the great beyond. God bless the cast members who are still here in this world. Network television has not been the same since shows like: Gilligan's island, Bewitched, I dream of Genie, Brady Bunch, My three sons, Happy Days, The Partridge family, The Munsters, The Honeymooners, The Odd Couple and other television classics and their amazing actors/actresses are no longer in production. I am grateful to have been a young kid growing up in the 1980's watching these magnificent shows for free on network television when they were in syndication afterschool, on the weekends and late at night.
I loved all those shows growing up too. The sad thing is, society changed and modern audiences would never support these shows if they were produced like this today. They only thrive in syndication because of people like us who still love those old times and our memories of them.
. Alan Hale, Jr. was a special person......not only VERY likeable on film/tv, but (from what I've read/heard), even MORE so towards fans, in real life !! .
I have to give Tina Louise some credit. At least she appeared for the reunion before everyone began passing away no matter what her motivation was. We really can't say the same for Susan Dey who I don't believe reunited with the Partridge Family cast before they began passing away.
I always read that Tina resented having been typecast as Ginger, and she hated being associated with the series. I'm a little surprised she came to the reunion.
@@Garsons-oq4lh She wasn't the one who setup the gofundme account. People who desire to help her get out of debt is far more loving than you degrading her.
@@bobbys4327 I agree. At least they are not like the spoiled brats of Hollywierd today. Compare the work between then and now for a season. Some series in that time period, they were producing sometimes 32 to 38 episodes with very small salaries. In today's time, you are lucky to get 22, sometimes just 10 episodes with salaries in the high 6 to 7 figure salaries. And even then, they complain about how unfair the world treats them. Personally, I don't give 2 craps about present day Hollywierd and their complaining.
I agree. I was also surprised to see Tina Louise. I was under the impression that she walked away and never associated herself with the show again. I also never knew this reunion existed until now. The timing was perfect as three of the castaways died shortly ('89, '90, '91) after. This may be the best cast reunion ever. Most never have everyone present.
I STILL watch this on my DVD set cause I grew up on its reruns n the 80s, so I'm very nostalgic to my childhood in many ways. I just STILL never understood why the Howells carried so much CRAP and Ginger done the same with all her dresses and gowns. Where'd they have all that space on that tiny dingie?
It's a damn shame the actors/actresses only got residuals for the first 2 years of reruns. It's no wonder a number of those actors and actresses ran into some tough financial times. Too bad they did not get the cash like the Star Trek crew got from all their conventions around the world
Best reunion ever. Enjoyed watching this. So rare to see them all together back in 88. Skipper had such a great personality. They all were great characters in the show. Miss those days.
I just love this! Alan Hale seems genuinely a nice and happy guy. I wrote to Russell Johnson a few years before his passing and he replied with a nice letter and picture. I must add that i just love introducing this show to the younger generation and they love it EVERY TIME! My all time favorite show by far!!
I can't wait until the entire Gilligan's Island cast members find out just how devilishly wicked the South Park animation crew members are. They should know by now that they definitely made fun of Jesus Christ, my own Lord and personal savior. It's also understandable that even the Gilligan's Planet cartoon series doesn't function like the way the fictitious crime drama series called Law & Order SVU does. The Gilligan's Island characters never dealt with any of the AMW (America's Most Wanted) fugitives who were serial rapists. Ronald Evans, who's from Clifton, New Jersey, was definitely an AMW fugitive who's a serial rapist. 👍 👌 💛 😙 🥰 ☺️ 👍 🙏 🙌 ✨️ ❤️ 💖 💕 🙏
Absolutely that's how I feel about these folks as well as the original cast of the original "Star Trek", which ran in the same general time period, also for three years. :)
@@georgewashington938 Plagued by some bad memories, but i can walk into any room be it professional or in my private life and be secure all in room have been treated well by me in past.
I wonder if the "Lovey" character had a real first name? (obviously, "Lovey" was a nickname used by Thurston for his wife) They said the skipper's first name was "Jonas", and Gilligan's first name was "Willie".
Alan Hale Jr was very proud of his role, and heard that even while he was in the hospital, he would visit other patients, to help them feel better. A gentle soul, he was.
@@bdh70 Is that a swipe against Tina for the thousandth time? If so at least Tina doesn't have to accept a gofundme donation because she was foolish with her money.
I saw an old movie with Alan Hale (can't remember the title) that was filmed many years before Gilligan's Island, and he had the same arm gestures, the same double-takes, the same everything as the Skipper. He IS the Skipper!
On the episode where Gilligan thought he was a Vampire, the Skipper said in one line, " Professor , this is giving me the Willies , oops, sorry Gilligan." The only hint to Gilligan's first name. Said only once.
Pointed this out elsewhere, but this copy of the video bears it out: It's unbelievable how good both Backus and Hale look just a year before their deaths. Seriously, look at some of the other video of Mr. Howell and The Skipper just a couple years before this interview. Backus couldn't even walk to the buzzer in '83 on "Family Feud," and Hale did a TBS marathon three years later looking gaunt and wasted from the cancer that would catch up with him in '90. But here....they might as well have come back from the dead in their prime. Has to be seen to believed.
Backus looks okay, but he does seem a little out of it at times. He suffered from depression at various points in his life, and I don't doubt that it took its toll on him.
Jim Backus was in a really good movie with James Dean called rebel without a cause he was a very very good actor and I really enjoyed watching him on the TV show
When I met Natalie Shaffer in person at a restaurant in L.A. one nite, she was exactly like this, and also invited me to have a drink with her and her date.
Oh that is so wonderful! :) In the documentary "Surviving Gilligan's Island " Bob Denver said she was 91 when she died in 1991, though Wikipedia says 90. Nonetheless she was 88 here. :)
Natalie was actually much older than she admitted to at the time of the filming of the program. She also had her own beauty regimen, and it must have worked! I wonder if she ever shared it with anyone?
Bob Denver was to nice to say it here, but it was HE who was responsible for getting credit for "the professor and Mary Ann" in the title song. He demanded their inclusion in the opening song.
The show didn't take itself seriously. It didn't expect the audience to take it seriously. And it didn't have a lot of competition. Simple entertainment.
Bob said it was 1988 early in the show. What a Great cast this was. I miss the good old days as a child watching great wholesome fun shows that were on. None better than Sherwood Schwartz Gilligans Island. Rest In Peace to those who have left us.
You know, it's been a bit of a rough day. Kinda just stumbled on this. I feel 100% better, I grew up with these people & it's like seeing old friends again. Skipper & Lovey were the living embodiments of their characters, and were frozen in time. They never aged.
IDK, if you only have around 20 years of school/growing up and another 20 years (at the back end) for retirement, that means you have to work for a living for 260 years! I don't even want to think about that...
You can tell Tina still had a chip on her shoulder. The only reason she showed up was to promote her film. It was because of her that the first season had "And the rest". She wanted to have the final credit. Before the next season, Bob Denver said if he had to, he would move down in the order as long as Russel and Dawn got the credit they deserved.
@@graphiquejack From an interview/documentary I saw, I think Tina just insisted on HER getting credit for herself and not necessarily making her coworkers 'and the rest'.
@Light in the Piazza He wrote in his 1993 book about an alleged incidence regarding Tina in which he overheard her having sex in her dressing room next to his. Tina went to the publisher of the book and demanded it be taken out. She even refuted that such an act would have occurred and right before she was needed for filming. So Denver is not a total innocent.
During the show’s entire first run I was in the Far East, courtesy of Uncle Sam. When I got home and saw tv again I would relax and watch Gilligan’s Island and Star Trek on late at night. I never saw either except as re-runs, but to this day they’re still high on my list of favorites. If they still made shows this good I might not have given up television about a quarter century ago. I might even own a TV set.
Wow they all looked very good for the number of years that went by! I wasn't too big into Ginger as I was with MaryAnn...I thought MaryAnn could have been your typical "girl next door" type. Alan Hale was a very happy bubbly guy during this reunion. Just the two girls left now. May the rest of the cast aways RIP and thank you all for the many laughs!
Alan Hale played on an epidode of Andy Griffith. He played a farmer named Jeff who came to town to find a wife. He had his eyes on Thelma Lou, but Barney wasn't having it. Lol.
1 of my favorite shows. This was awesome seeing all of them together again. Its amazing how doing 1 TV show can make u an iconic superstar Legend. Bob Denver and Allan Hale were also in my other favorite show: the Andy Griffith show. I think Bob played Dud wash, Charlene darlings husband and Allan played Jeff pruit. Sherwood Schwartz was a genius. He went right from Gilligan's Island to The Brady Bunch. Another TV show I still watch to this very day
Women (and men for that matter) aren't like "fine wine" and don't look "better with age", that's bull. I agree that Dawn Wells is still an attractive older woman.
Wait until you see her in this tv flick walk into the hut wearing a red robe to speak with "Ginger" and "Mr. Cunningham." She knows how to wear a robe. Oh my! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4xSK6d4lFLs.html
@Spawndude Spawndude Bob Denver's autobiography wasn't as glowing about Tina Louise as his other cast mates and suggested she was humourless and stand-offish. He also told a story about her having sex in her dressing room on set, which she denied.
Mark Blackmore with all due respect President said in a private conversation before he was President and i will quote, " when your rich and famous women will let you grab them by the p...." The operative word is will. Very well educated people voted for President Trump. God bless you
