Gin Rickey cocktail from Better Cocktails at Home

The Gin Rickey is my favorite cocktail to get at events like weddings and corporate events. Usually these type of things have open bars, but come with a terrible spirit selection and terrible "bartenders." The best thing to do is just make your own drink. Ask for gin and club soda with some lime wedges. This is an old cocktail that seems to have come out of Washington, D.C. It isn't a complex drink, but it is damn tasty.
Gin Rickey
1.5oz London dry gin
lime juice
club soda
Add ice to a rocks glass. Add the gin and some lime juice and top with club soda. Drop lime wedges in for a garnish.

I am a beer drinker, but sometimes I get "beer'd out", so to speak, so in steps the Gin Rickey. I didn't know it had a name. Now I do. Great video.

I'm a fan of this drink too. Not too strong or too sour, or sweet. Perfect if the bar is open and you're going to indulge in a few. At events I also like a "Vodka Rickey" (can I say that?), and sometimes I'll get a splash of Campari if its available.

Nice touch with the splash of Campari. Though, at all of the wedding/company events I've been to, I've never see Campari at the open bar.

All I had the other day was a rye whisky and decided to try it this way. I think I found my new favorite. Usually just go with vodka or gin but rye has a nice spicy flavor to it.

for me this cocktail is good for conversation at the party not your usual type party cocktails that really hits you up. But with this drink its just keeps you talking to in a sensible manner if you know your limit.

Very simple refreshing drink, yet I prefer a tom collins if I have the ingredients. I choose lemon over lime drinks most of the time.

Normally a tonic guy here, never tried with club. I’m going to give it a go next time I have a cocktail. The tonic is loaded with sugar therefore making the next day rough, Cheers great video

I always drink this, I make mine with a lot of lemon juice, a dash of grenadine syrup and I top it with Tonic Water. It is amazing.

The gin rickey is a great drink. I think you might be getting out of traditional gin rickey territory with your modifications. As long as you it good though...

I agree Daniel. I've never been a huge fan of Gin and Tonic. Usually because the tonic used is low quality. Good tonic is really good.

Is there any sound that makes you thirstier than the sound of ice cubes bouncing against the side of a glass when you're topping off a drink? My god... This drink seems like a very natural piece in pantheon of simple Gin drinks. It's a gin and tonic but with club soda instead of tonic water, and it's also a gin fizz without the simple syrup. Very, very tasty drink too.

Better Cocktails at Home Can't say, both great. I mean I'm a whiskey drinker, but if I wanted something really refreshing, I would probably go with gin.

I like this, but it is not fair to say tasty drink. Many people would dislike this. They would prefer sugar added, because magine water with lime - it is sour :) To be honest most of the times I made this drink for others, they were not impressed. Again, just imagine lime + water - not a tasty combination for most people.

+tom jens well, I think it is tasty. You're right about the sweet. That's why this drink is great though. You can easily adjust it to personal tastes.

You mean adding sugar/simple syrup? I agree, but it would be something closer to tom collins (just limes vs lemons) than to rickey. Imho.

@@dylan4338 I totally agree on that one! I have tried many sugary/fruity drinks but I just don't like them much. I like whatever type of alcohol is being used to be the star of the drink. I also like lots of different kinds of liquors straight or on the rocks...my only problem with drinking it straight is that it gets you buzzed too fast when you are aiming to drink more for the taste than the buzz.
