I have heard Bachauer in person many times (I'm very, very old). I play this work too, but not nearly as well as Gina. She does not rush it! CHEERS. It is amazing how many nonprofessional pianists can play this. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)
Yes, it's nice to hear the march-like octaves detached - as notated, and as played by Rachmaninoff on a piano roll (if memory serves). Almost everyone sustains those notes and I think that takes away from the military bite which seems right for the other sections and contrasts nicely with the lyical central episode.
