They used whin stone for kerbs back in the day before precast overtook it. If you've ever visited the Glenfinnan Monument, that has a whinstone base, quarried from Blackridge in West Lothian.

THE BRIDGE INN USED TO SELL GOOD FOOD AND YOU USED TO BE ABLE TO BOOK A TABLE ON A BARGE WHILST HAVING A TRIP ALONG THE CANAL.
