Everyone should have a place to speak up at their own home. You don't have to earn it. If the most mischievous kid is being teased at home, the kid has the right to speak up. Likewise, if the kid feels afraid at home, she should speak up! I think it's a right given to anyone in any relationship. Whether the people in the relationship agree to go forth with the suggestions is another issue. Seriously. Anyone who subscribes to this 'earn your place to speak up' bs needs a mindset change in communication. It's unproductive and lacks accountability. I speak from experience with my own family.

She has a wisdom at a very young age. Emotionally intelligent beyond her years. She's scared but she did not hold back to protect her mom from verbal abuse by dad. This little girl is amazing to confront her dad like to not behave like that, but what is also amazing her dad did not shout back to tell the children to stop talking. In most Chinese families if a child talks like that to the parents, they immediately bang the tables and yell at them with threats to tell them stop talking and they use their authoritative behavior to control everyone and telling people how they should feel and how they should not feel.

Anger is a legitimate emotion. It just happens that men are way more likely to feel anger than sadness in comparison to women for example even in the same situations. Why is anger so taboo. Do you hold it against your mom when she feels sad and cries ? If you could come home only twice a year wouldn't you get angry ?

Was that the actual translation of what she said? She's so wise. Even adults couldn't talk like that. Raising a child teaches a person so many things. I hope the father learned from her. She's so right about everything - seeing your parent yell at the other parent is so scary, especially for little kids. Kids should not witness something like that. And what she said about bringing home your frustration at work and venting it out on your family. We give so much to our work but leave crumbs to our family. We control our emotions more when in the presence of friends and colleagues but not so much with our family. That girl is so precious.

If anything, the Chinese sounds even more impressive. The translation "We have to look at your face. We remain silent. We are just kids, this scares us." The "look at your face" in Chinese meant something more along "we have to pay attention to your face/expressions to gauge your mood". Also the "we are just kids" she actually said it more like "little kids would be scared by this" almost like she is speaking as a neutral party, and not from the point of view of a kid. She's hella mature it's crazy.
@williamstriker2299
@williamstriker2299 2 месяца назад
Yeah, as someone who knows basic Chinese, she's not only saying it better than the translation, she's using proverbs in her speech as well. I actually started wondering if she's reading from a script but it's impossible because of how young she is and how she's conveying herself. She sounds scared. So does her sister. Very impressive. Her parents might fight but their daughters were taught well.

She could not understand why the father was angry or why he blew up or how to help him. All she knew was angry = bad and you should do whatever mom feels like you should do or shut up. It is the opposite of mature but I wouldn't hold it against her seeing how most people in the world struggle with understanding that just because someone is angry it does not mean they are evil aggressors that cannot be right about anything.

This little girl is brave and emotionally smart,as someone who grew up in a south Asian household,I was the oldest child yet never had the sense nor guts to confront my father when he physically and verbally abused our mother....it's because we were raised to believe that the father had the right to treat the family whatever way he wanted.....many of these dads later complain their adult kids have gone no contact but they never wonder why
@chippychip2153
@chippychip2153 6 месяцев назад
I think it normal not to confront an abusive father. the built of a father and also his abusive nature would naturally cause his own kid to turn away/ back off. I think her dad is not a very authoritative type toward her and could have spoken to her nicely. that where her courage come fr. otherwise, a shout of father would just simply send the shock to the child. It's her family setting that's works for her. For abusive cases, retaliation comes only the little children has grown into a big strong young adults. the abusive father is too absorbed into their own unhappiness and also self-imposed logic. they will never understand. they never will. My heart goes out to you.

@@chippychip2153 Forgoing the fact that there is like 99% chance the video was staged the reason why the little girl could have the courage to speak up could be that in fact the father was the one being abused and yet because he couldn't hold his anger back to the very end it automatically makes him a villain.
@chippychip2153
@chippychip2153 3 месяца назад
@Mytelefe I don't understand the purpose or staging a camera? to capture her bravery act or capture her father response? to be popular? or having an evident when if the father turns abusive suddenly? she did look at camera to have acknowledgement. could the father being having a bad time and also been long suppressing the anger and resulted in black face and harsh word? why would the father not sharing? how could one not share? or he is having a miscommunication with his wife, and then he started to been in anger.
