Ok just a brief gmw lesson. The whole thing with Zay and Maya is not a love relationship it is a friendship relationship. Zay's whole thing is that he does not want to have maya go through what he went through when he first got to New York. He wants her to feel included and he was just being a gentleman by asking.
reason why zay asked Maya out is because he wants to repay her back for not making him feel like an outsider. so to not make her feel like a third wheel he wants to be there for her. it's Purley platonic. don't worry about its not a romantic random v relationship.
my favorite part was when Lucas told Maya "get lost ,get off me" and when Zay said told Maya " I don't want you to feel like a third wheel " so f funny 😅😅😅 second favorite episode of the season 😅😅😅
I think Zay's doing Maya a favor. Not by going out with him, he cares about her and he knows that she really actually does like Lucas. He's helping her realize that. Zay, gatta love him.
Zay and Maya are not a thing. I'm pretty sure he just doesn't want Maya to feel like a third wheel; so he's saying he wouldn't mind sitting with her at the movies or something with Rucas so she doesn't seem left out. Even though in real life, I don't think that's something that'd really need to be worried about. Like, if the group is going to the movies, then the group is going to the movies in which she wouldn't feel alone. And if it's just Rucas, it's just Rucas. At no point would Maya really feel neglected unless it became excessive which I doubt would happen. Either way, Zay didn't have to make a bug announcement about it 😂😂 What makes this show unrealistic at times is how open they are about stuff like that. I'm just going to announce to the whole room that I'm going to do this thing for Maya. In real life, someone would just think that to themselves and do it. I guess he's wanted Josh's permission or whatever but still. Like am I crazy or...? While I'm on this tangent, the triangle was also unrealistic at times because of how it was conveyed. They would literally just sit around and talk about it, and despite all that talking, didn't solve it for the longest time. I don't know what a triangle in real life would be like, but I suppose if the guy really didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings it could drag on for a while but still. idek. Basically what Zay was trying to say was that he doesn't want Maya to become a third wheel. So he is gonna hangout with her not as a date but to just make sure that Maya doesn't feel out of place when Rucas goes on dates.

I personally think (and feel that was the whole point but the explanation might have been a bit vauge in parts) the whole 'Zaya' thing is completely platonic so they can be each others platonic date and they don't feel like a third wheel to 'Rucas' 😁❤

I don't have anything against Rucas I just don't think that he is happy with Riley I mean while Riley was gazing into Lucas's eyes he looked away I'm a Lucaya shipper but like I said I don't have anything against the ship I just don't see any chemistry between Riley and Lucas and when they "resolved the triangle" they didn't resolve the triangle they made it more complicated because there is still Lucaya moments. The thing I don't like is that they say maya changed into Riley you can't change into another person it's just not possible you just grow up that's life you are not going to be the same person you were in middle school you change
