One of the first music videos made for this very talented Aussie band by director/editor Maurice Todman. Filmed in the late '80's in a Rozelle studio and exteriors around the Pyrmont/Ultimo area.
I directed and edited this clip for the band. It's from my personal 'history' reel. I saw a couple of other copies of this clip and the quality sucked. Some people have uploaded their personal 'off-air' copies but I just can't cop 'out-of-sync' versions with lousy video quality - occupational hazard so to speak. Thanks for liking it, I loved making it for them. Shame they didn't go further. Cheers
Awesome work. So cool to hear that this was in all done in the Inner-West of Sydney (being that they were Melburnians, I'd always assumed that this clip was filmed there). (Weird) question without notice; where were the giant red and white buoys?
I met Lisa one evening in early 1990 at Springfield’s (the old Manzil Room) and only the. Realised the band was Australian. Both the clip and the song seemed to me like something out of London or Europe. I told Lisa so, and she was chuffed. Had no idea until now that she’s no longer with us
I just read that lisa passed away in 2020 how sad that makes me feel as im just about to go to bed its 1.05 am in the morning and ive been recording girloverboard on to mp3 i lost my mum to cancer when i was 26 im now 61 RIP dear lisa you were brilliant and your voice was better than good enough one of the best we had in australia
The first time I saw this band they were called Separate Tables, the next time they were called Girl Overboard. Either way, fantastic live and great vocals.
Girl overboard should have been big i bought 2 albums this and the one with jackie lisa was amazing and in my opinion underated i saw her live years a go in rozelle sydney cant think of the hotel right now she was awsome
I just hate seeing obviously out-of-sync videos with lousy video quality being posted, especially MY old directing/editing jobs. That's why I appreciate seeing all the vids you post.
No dig at any members of the band personally, but as an 11 year old kid in 1989 who had only just become aware of the Sex Pistols, my impression of this band was that it was made up of 'boring nice people' and a vowed never to grow up to be like them. I guess I'm paying for it now lol
Yep probably in the same boat except I was 18.25 years or so and a few kicks in the guts later I'm fully aware your taste in music doesn't define who you are as personLife gets in the way I suppose. I like this song but the band still not my cup of tea . Difference is I 'm not judging those who were in the band or those who liked them. Could this be ............ Maturity?
when i was a kid growing up in the 80's n 90's all this kind of music we would say it's "gaybo music" lol how things change, as an adult i love this song and well.. we don't use that word so much anymore!🤣
Not exactly sure but the singer and the guitarist had an on/off/on relationship. I'm gathering there was an implosion of sorts. Shame really, they wrote some quality songs.
