The problem with Airbnb that’s shown is this video comes from the fact that ANYONE that has a bed and bath is allowed to rent it out to people.

I feel so fortunate to afford a hotel room every time. I know it's filthy in other ways but at least there's insurance, staff, and a bit more accountability.

It’s why I will never do Airbnb, staying or hosting. Real 5-star hotels and bed and breakfasts never leave me with any complaints for safety or cleanliness or service. When EVERYONE is doing something, it’s a sign for me to do the exact opposite. But for most… their greed wins. Short term POTENTIAL gains are not worth the risks of major long term losses.😂

I once booked an Airbnb at the beach with my small children. There were SO MANY rules set in place that I was certain there was no way we would be able to follow them all and would be charged extra for something. In addition to that, after I booked the place, the host sends a message telling us to not open the front door and balcony door at the same time because it could create some kind of drift and slam the door, which can cause serious injury to someone that may be walking through the door. Again, I had small children with me. I was so livid that this wasn’t disclosed before we booked the place! Between that, all the rules, and all of the ridiculous extra fees, I’ve vowed to NEVER book an Airbnb again. I will take my chances at a hotel.

This is exactly why I will never rent airbnb's ever again. I've had a traumatic experience with somebody living in a bedroom that we were told We can't go into and that the lock was broken and it was sealed Shut well, obviously it wasn't because we caught a man eating food out of our pantry in the middle of the night. Go to hotels instead, way better.

Airbnbs never sat right with me. Just the thought of being responsible for someone else's house and the anxiety of ensuring they can't pin anything on me... I'd rather book a hotel.

I only have one airbnb experience but it was so good. We rented a beautiful flat in paris for an awesome price. The host was so nice and even left us basic food like rice and noodles and gave us netflix access. Its so sad that people abuse this concept

My husband and I own an air bnb and it's air bnb policy to disclose all cameras. If not your listing will be removed. They have alot of rules in their policies for hosts and guests! My advice is take pictures of EVERYTHING! Hosts take photos before your guest checks in and once they check out before touching anything! And guests take photos when you check in before touching anything and take photos before you leave.

I stayed at an Airbnb once and one of the cleaning folks opened the front door with no announcement while a family member was about to go take a shower. Not to mention the place was not clean initially. I'm not sure if there were any cameras, but not a great experience.

I used to think cameras in Airbnb‘s were automatically creepy but I get it because you don’t want strangers taking anything from your house or leaving it in a mess or anything like that the undisclosed cameras still give me that creepy vibe though.

How do you think its ok to have strangers in your home constantly.

I have a bad taste in my mouth for Air BnBs after I was forced out of my apartment of 10+ years just because the new owner from another state wanted to turn my former 4-plex into an air BnB rather than let the current tenants stay there. I was able to move into a better, more maintained place, but I shouldn't have had to go through the headache and stress of finding a new place just because the new owner was greedy. I'm glad things didn't work out for him and he was forced to give up on the property shortly after I moved out, and he'd only had it a few months.

This is why they are trying to ban and remove the Air BnBs everywhere. It’s ending up cheaper and safer to be in a hotel room. I found out here in Florida they are making where you have to have fire sprinklers(most don’t!). Also you have to be in living distance as most here are houses bought up by people who live way out of state.

Honestly, renting a Airbnb scares me. They can totally ruin your vacation and charge you hundreds for it.

So what’s the lesson here? I’d say it’s don’t let strangers stay in your house and don’t stay in strangers houses

I make travel arrangements for faculty at a university and absolutely dread when someone wants to stay at an Airbnb. They are the absolute worst to work with. You end up going in circles because of issues on their end. I would never ever stay in an airbnb because of their terrible customer service

Thats why I stay in Hotels. The last Airbnb lady told me I stole her shoes and really… I have tiny feet at size European 36 and she 42. Unless I grow new feet its impossible for me to steal. Not worth the hassle. I dont wanna clean while in holidays and just for saving some bucks.

That family which learned that an ex-step mother forged powers-of-attorney and committed fraud, I can't imagine the anger and frustration they must feel. I sincerely hope they're able to recover the lost properties. Imagine working and saving your whole life, only to have an ex pull this off! I fear that despite being both ethically and legally in the right, the law will prove impotent and a generation's wealth is lost.

Used a lot of AirBNB’s in EU. Never had a problem. We did once stay in a quite dirty and old Air BNB apart but the host was really nice and apologetic. They asked for our honest review and gave us a discount. I even stayed in Air BNB with a host. We just rented a room that had a separate bathroom. ended up being so fun! We spent one night with our hosts and their friend drinking and chatting.

See what I don't understand is why people cannot be nice to each other and have common sense. You know leave the unit in proper condition and respect the host and be kind because it's not your place also on the side of the guest too it's not your place to be monitoring them without consent

I don’t think I heard this mentioned but air bnb and other short term rental “services” are a HUGE portion of the housing crisis we are experiencing in this country, imo!

Forget pictures. Record a video of you messing with everything as soon as you get in. Things can LOOK secure but quickly fall apart with the slightest touch. Video with a dated timestamp

I was looking to book airbnb in Paris last year. It had tons of good reviews, so booked and waited for host to approve. She/he came back saying they will approve my request only if i give star review on a property i haven't even stayed in. Never looked at airbnb again after that

I’ve been to an Airbnb before it was a nice experience. The owner’s cat managed to get in through the kitchen window and we told the host and the said that the cat always visited the guests and they apologised for not telling us because of allergies just in case we had any

I’ve never used this service before, but based on prior experiences staying at private accommodations from other websites, there’s always some “discrepancy” with the host, and even hotel establishments can be weird too.

Hotels called hotels for many reasons. When you're so focused on the "cheaper" part, be ready to lose some of the perks that hotels give.

I own Airbnb investment properties. The only camera needed is a door cam! After each stay, I sweep for cameras, my assistant double checks everything, & I’m extremely selective on tenants.

I just about let friends in my house, never mind a stranger!

I think that it should be a rule that before leaving the property, have to meet up dwith someone in person checking over property together. Or arrange live video call plus photo evidence of place before leaving the property. ( making sure in same condition as when entered or even better.) Given people black credit on leasing places if they are unfit to look after them then should not be allowed to tent again.😮( fact as own fault 😢)plus fine to fix problem you have left place in. Stress also that has been caused to homeowners,who more times then not are paying mortgage by renting the property out.😮😊❤

You can sign all the waivers you want, contracts do not supersede criminal law. To illustrate: You hire a hitman and he gets caught. There is no contract in the world that will legally protect you.

So glad my mom would always get the nicest hotels she could find when traveling or emergencies when we had to leave our home for whatever reason. I'd never stay at an airbnb as long as I live, especially if I had kids. We weren't wealthy by any means, my mom didn't stay at those cheap roadside inns, she made sure they were actual nice hotels like Mariott or something. i feel like people with kids think staying at an airbnb would be better because of more room, but I think they can stay a few nights in a hotel.

This didn't exactly happen at an airbnb, but one time my family and I went back to our hotel room to find all our luggage bags completely open and disorganized. Some of the clothes were even out of the bags. It was clear that the staff was fishing through our stuff. The whole situation was just really uncomfortable and I was frustrated when no one in the family wanted to confront the hotel staff about it.

I even take video of condos/hotels when I check in and check out. I’ve been burned in the past.

By the time I'm taking pics of all that wuthering I check out... I'd rather just get a hotel.

So many reasons why I won't do Air BNB.

I can stay at a Motel 8 for (almost) 3 days for $200 and have peace of mind. At the higher end, I'd spend $160/day at a Hyatt Regency hotel if feeling a bit wealthy. No cleaning fees. No surcharges. No surprises. Sometimes there's a deposit but those are refunded after checkout. These places are all over the place so what's the mindset of booking a stranger's home (in questionable condition) for $600/night? Regardless of my stay (hotel, motel, shared space, cabin in the woods, etc.) there's a firearm on my side and loaded mags in my suitcase or duffel. If there's a hint of funny business I'll get out my infrared detector to see if anything is pointed in my direction that's not supposed to be and keep an eye out for red diodes other than what's on the smoke detector.

I went to a couple of those airbnb's I just assumed they have cameras in them. There's cameras on every street corner.

My friend runs an Airbnb. He does not charge of cleaning fee. And he actually pays a cleaner $20 an hour to come clean the entire house.

If was renting an room in my house, as a single woman, I would rent to only single women. Also, I would rent to people who also had high rating in the app from other hosts. It's not wrong to decline a reservation request and the reasoning can be anything. It's also important to put correct ratings and reviews and not be intimated by hosts/guests.

Last air BnB that I stayed in was super dirty. The sheets had dog hair in them, there was a pair of underwear under the bed and the shower had dark mold on all the caulking between each tile and a ton of rust all around and on a shower pole that was holding the shampoos etc. I had paid $2200 for 13 nights and when I complained the host, he offered me a $50 discount. He also had told us the apartment was handicapped accessible since I’m in a wheelchair and the house was on the 2nd floor. There were no elevators in this building. He stuck to his guns and said the apt WAS accessible, once you got in the unit that is. Ugh 😩

Watching this after my last (bad) experience with a Vrbo host and I think I’m definitely a Hotel girl from now on. 😅

You could not pay me to do AirBnb either as renter or guest, especially in someone’s home where they are living at the same time.

Background checks! I have always, no matter where i stay, come in the room or home recording. I show every little ding, scratch, hole, dirt, etc and if it's not up to par, NOPE! The first time i got cancer, the drive back and forth is really long to the treatment center. I stayed in a lot of hotels alone at first, that was until someone was trying to open my door with a device they slide under the door and wiggle it over until the latch is caught. The 2 men got the scare they never expected from a sick frail woman. I had two handguns in their face when they opened it. Always stuff a towel under the door of the places that have the gap at the bottom, then use door stoppers under the towel. I have an entire safety kit i take now.

We no longer stay in abnbs and have reverted to staying in nicer hotels. It’s safer, the room is always clean and the price for a hotels stay is often cheaper or comparable to an abnb. It’s sad because we really enjoyed all the times we’ve stayed in them but those days are over, to sketchy, to costly and just not worth it anymore.
