From 2001 to 2007 Bee Train Productions worked on three different anime all with similar themes. Noir, Madlax and El Cazador de la Bruja. This is a review video that goes into all three of them; it was a long time working but it finally made it.

It's nice how all the important roles are reassigned in the different animes (not sure about Madlax, since I didn't watch it). 1. Female emotionless protagonist with amnesia (Kirika, Ellis) 2. Other female protagonist with gun, who helps #1 to find out about their past and gets friends later (Mireille, Nadie) 3. Character who secretly wants to protect #1 (and maybe #2 as well), who gets envious over #2 later and gets killed in the end (Chloe, L. A.) 4. Main antagonist, who has a connection to #3, who stays in background until the end and has planned everything and the plan basically works out, but not really (Althena, Rosenberg)

Coppelia no hitsugi starts playing and and suddenly the Noir nostalgia hits me like a ton of bricks. Man, I rewatched that anime like 10 times. Brilliant stuff.

This brought back the unexpected memory that I OWNED the Noir soundtrack on COMPACT DISC when I was in high school. Thanks for the forced nostalgia. And great editing as always.

I'm more of an M-X person. Sexier than NOIR too. Never seen EL CAZADOR, never came out in the UK.

The reviews covered the basic characters and story but I was quite disappointed with a lack of understanding of the themes of these animes in my opinion.

in my defense i think the only one with meaningful themes was noir, madlax was too all over the place and el cazador is just dumb fun

@@sandman45 Fair enough, I think Madlax has a lot of meaningful themes. Six degrees of separation, morality and quite existentialist.

22:25 What? The opening is OK? It's amazing. I wasn't sure if I should watch another Anime just after finishing Noir, but the opening really dragged me in.

I dunno man, I really loved Madlax overall as its probably my favorite anime, I think the story is solid and the characters are great, it is slow for sure but I never got bored with it.

MADLAX was my first forays into Japanimation. Blimey! This makes me feel old! I came into anime later than everyone else. 2006 - 10.

Thank you for making this video! I love watching obscure anime and I just finished all 3 of these! I thought they were pretty decent overall, despite showing their age a bit. I feel like a good show to watch after these 3 would be Gunslinger Girl. It follows the whole girls with guns premise, but the story is quite unique.

Starz live action adaptation would have been pretty awful. Don't get me wrong, I loved the way Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert directed Xena, but what they wanted to do with "Noir" would have made it basically not "Noir". The great thing about El Cazador's episodic nature is that it's a contribution to the overarching narrative; each little story has some kind of lesson about love and how it factors into life.

Fun act Noir and Madlax each has a sock puppet special done by adv. sadly when El cazador released ADV was gone and Funimation got it. Sadly no sock puppet ep lol

I ended up watching all 3 of them. Noir is easily the best of the 3, it doesn't have particularly major flaws, besides some stormtrooper aim syndrome, and the lack of blood. 9/10 Madlax I enjoyed, though wish the supernatural thing wasn't the main focus, that really hurt the whole conspiracy theory vibe the show had... And I *HATE* how the noses are drawn. 8/10 El Cazador I'm not so fond of... The character interactions were funny, but it doesn't commit hard enough to be full on nonsense, and doing drama with that base tone just doesn't work. 6/10

6:44 to be fair, those are probably the most realistic gun sound effects in all of anime. But I do agree that they lack of base and power.

Yes, they used the actual versions of the guns they animated to get the sounds. The sound design of Noir is top notch

I've watched noir and el cazador but not madlax. It's on my list and I'm hoping to finish the whole trilogy. Out of the two noir is my favorite so I'll definitely have to check out Madlax.Btw how would you rank the three?

12:20, Gazth-Sonika is a reference to Gaza Strip. MADLAX is somewhat a social critique despite animation of the Israel-Palestine conflict.

20:38 Oh, she is meant to be called "Natalie". The German dub calls her "Nadi" which might be a nick name for "Natalie"? I thought, it's a nick name for "Nadja", but whatever.

Her name is "Nadie" which is Spanish for "no one". I'm not sure how he gets Natalie from it, the Japanese version clearly says "Nah-dee-eh" not sure how the English dub sounds so maybe that's how he got Natalie.

@@willpina The english dub for El Cazador very clearly pronounces Nadie as you said, and it does not at all pronounce it close to "Natalie". The dub version is how I watched it both times I saw it. It (along with Steins;Gate) was what introduced me to Trina Nishimura's (Mikasa from Attack on Titan) work.

It's okay but the problem is it was too repetitive. After watching a few episodes of GG, I couldn't get into it and stopped watching. I bought a DVD set of Noir and have enjoyed it ever since. Oddly, I was introduced to Noir by an interesting thing that showed up in the mail. Some small town distributor of anime sent me a mini DVD of the first episode. THAT is a good way to get someone's attention! I watched it and was hooked. The background theme song Salva nos is SO fitting and is still one of the most haunting songs I've heard in anime. And I love how they slloowwly delve into the overall plot by showing Mireille as a little girl and what happened to her many years ago. The background shows a little bit more as each episode ends and by the time you get to a major turning point, they show the entire scene from her POV and BAM! Everything clicks into place. I don't know many anime titles that do this, not even Neon Genesis Evangelion or Blue Gender.

7:45 Yeah, I get that. That's always a problem with dubbing. I think, the most common way to do it is to let the characters of the main language be synchronized as the dub language, and other languages might just be the dub language as well, or the dub language with accent or the real language with sub. But having only some characters of the main language with accents is weird. They didn't have any accents in the German dub and I was fine with that.
