Congratulate Autogiro and suggest that a Alto Giro be made with capacity for 4 passengers and have a vertical takeoff.

I have read that Gyro Copters can be flown in turbulent summer weather unlike other light sport such as Powered Paragliders, and Trikes which I have heard get thrown around in summer thermals. I would like to fly most of the time from the nearby airport that airport has no where to land around it mostly city. I like the safety of a Gyro if the engine quits on take off or landing less chance of hitting something unlike an airplane.

I wana jump Gyro. Seen them in utube but nobody makes them commercially. Of course I am not a pilot and my want may seem naive yet it is the long take offs that are pushing me to look to fixed wing as a new past time coz if you need a runway anyway might as well do full monty. To me a gyro with near vertical take off capability would really be a marker for sport flying. Why don’t we have them? Anyone can answer thanks..

Because there is no real market for them. Technology to do a jump takeoff gyroplane is not the problem. SP rules in US and AutoGyro rules in all of Europe restrict to 2 bade teetering rotor. Fixed wings are not gyroplanes. If your definition of full Monty is A to B fixed wings are the right tool for you. I am going to take a guess and say you are not a gyroplane pilot yet so your analysis is limited by experience

@@PaulAnthonyDuttonUk LOL. No that doesn't work all the time. They did build it before multiple times and they didn't come. Its a solution looking for a problem. The problem has already been solved. Its called a helicopter.

@@PaulAnthonyDuttonUk They are competitive with smaller helicopters if you see the prototypes built so far, so probably some sociopath got triggered by this and discreetly sabotaged everything related to it. They even leave many clues behind if you know what to look for.

most of the jumping/hopping gyro take offs I've seen seem unsafe to me, or rather, they seem like they would be unsafe in a real world situation where you're trying to take-off without enough room for a regular take-off roll. If you hop high enough to clear some rocks and low trees but your engine quits as you're transitioning to horizontal, you're going to be like 3 seconds from a crash with no good landing spot and not enough energy to maneuver even if there was one. The only way to get around this that I can see would be to have a way to drive the rotor continuously with enough power to climb vertically to a safe altitude before transferring to horizontal flight and letting the rotor autorotate. That would either mean a mechanical drive system like a helicopter has, but more complicated because it needs to be able to disconnect, or something like the tip jets that Fairey experimented with. The former would make for a gyrocopter that's heavy and costs as much or more than a helicopter, the latter is still sort of experimental, or at least uncommon, and anyone developing it would be gambling they can get the noise levels low enough for it to be practical. I'm really not sure how you would go about getting an aircraft like that certified by the FAA or an equivalent regulator either, though I really don't know much about that, I'm just kind of assuming it would be a mess of figuring out if it needs to be held to helicopter rules or gyro rules or what. At any rate its hard to see how someone could develop and bring to market a jump-gyro that is both safe enough to meet airworthiness regulations, cheap enough to be appealing to customers, and offers performance that makes it actually desirable to customers, unfortunately.

The push for the commercial use of gyros as camera and sensor platforms is, in my estimation, a couple decades too late. You can make the case for them as a cheaper alternative to helicopters, but drones are way cheaper and simpler to operate than both and are on the ascendency. It seems stupid to keep chasing an ever-shrinking market like that.

Hi - yeah at that weight you would be at the limit for most of the bigger manufacturers - such as AutoGyro product and obviously if 265lb is on the scales in the bathroom then with jeans and jacket at the airfield its likely more.

Hey, can I ask, is there a law saying you have to have a motor on a gyro? would it be possible just to hook some batteries up to a propeller? Or is it against the law? thanks mate.
