Julie Kent is just lovely. Beautifully nuanced details of characterization, especially in the Variation which can be just a bravura interlude for the ballerina. Julie always had a quiet charm and grace.
Speaking as a born American, one thing that makes your heart swell with a certain degree of patriotic pride is seeing the likes of Julie Kent. It breaks your heart just a little that every great who dared to do ballet had to be Russian. Is there some kind of law? Is it just written somewhere? But… then someone like her was just bound to come along-and defy that rule… and give us Yanks some kind of hope, some kind of pride. Maybe… maybe just a little patriotism. We don’t just all have to sit back and surrender all to the Russkies. Jules… Thanks.
