Honestly dont care if it is a rep, they are so rare in either form these days.just so nice see them like this rolling through town with massive road presence .nice motor that fella.
It's a 1.6 base shell with Cossie running gear, probably only running a little over standard power, but yea it's just a replica. But cost about a third of a real one, I'm sat in the passenger seat in that video lol
El Diablo 80k on engine how £9500 on my gtr engine made it safe for 1500 bhp (had to spend 12k on the gearbox to bring it to the same spec) so what did they do.
NUCK CHORRIS OK I never said that it would last forever I factored in a rebuild ever 20K the thing is on the standard engine, rods start to bend at just over 650 bhp, depending on how you drive it (I like to launch a lot) so I had a rebuild with forged internals rods and pistons are rated to 250 bhp per set so hence 1500 bhp with my setup I'm running 1250 bhp on ethanol with flex fuel. as for costs yes there were other big costs like turbos (£11k) drive shafts (£2k) cooling system (£5K) my point was how did this guy spend 80k just on the engine. my friends dad has a Sierra cosworth running 380 bhp his rebuild was around 4k.
El Diablo no you can't for 10K, AC speedtech will rebuild a 1500bhp gtr rated engine for under 10k I just wanted to work out how he had spent 80k on just his cosworth engine.
He didn't spend £80K on the engine unless it was built several times over. Before anyone shouts, check out my videos - I know Cosworth's pretty well ;)
My mate has 2x RS500 thats been left under cover in his garage and not been used since the early 2000's, shame really but he paid less then £20k for them back in 1998, I wonder what there worth now???
I pulled up along side a Sierra sapphire cosworth a few month back for a split second. I was driving my 93 Nissan pulsar GTI-R in black. Me and the cossie driver looked at each other and instantly nodded heads at each other lol showing respect to one another! I’ll never forget that moment 👊🏻
That’s what I love about the car scene , it doesn’t matter if your Ford for life or a jap lover there’s a mutual respect between one car lover to another! I greatly respect and admire a nicely modified car even its it’s Not to my taste, just to see someone smiling driving there pride and joy
He probably knew you would do him off the lights :) I never lost a 0=80 in my GTIR back in 2001. In fact the only race I lost was a rolling race from 110 with a dodge viper ;) I'll take it!
"It's running no boost" lol Seems a humble bloke who instead of saying "500bhp" and "I don't want o risk it"" said it wasn't running right, but still gave it some welly. Fair play...1.6 shell or not.
That car has no turbo, it's n/a, sounds like a fart in a can, and is slower than a Nissan Micra. Then again the genuine RS500 isn't much quicker than a 90s 1.6 Civic 😂
I drove one of these cars in the mid-80s (maybe 85-86) as a brand new model on Zurich highways, and MAN... was that a fun car. Always a thumbs up when you find a rare car like this still on the road smoking rubber.
Had the pleasure of passing one of these near my neck of the woods...sadly the guy said he couldn't oblige the obligatory 'give it some wellie mate' request due to turbo issues 😞😞😞...still always great to see these legendary motors on the road 😍😍😍 Who else learnt to drive in one of these 🙋♂️ 🤣
Looks amazing, sounds amazing and it's so rare to see this gem on the road, replica or not - the road presence is recognizable to many and obviously brings smiles, good on him for having taste!
Whats surprising is how slow these are today by todays standards. Weren't they just over 200bhp as standard or something? It's mad thinking of that now. When I was 17 the fastest car I ever sat in was a lads Escort RS Turbo, it was a rocket ship. Looking now it was only about 130bhp or summit 😂 How cars have moved on is mad 👍🏴
I remember my first time driving a stock sierra cosworth, as a rover fan at the time i had driven a few rover coupe turbos(along with 620Ti and most other vehicles with the T16 engine). and working in a place that did grey imports id regularly drive GC8 impressa STI's and R32 GTR's imagine my disappointment. still, superb tuning potential and awesome to look at. fast for the time in the domestic market, but for sure, far from fast.
Actually can't believe you haven't already.....hahaha standard phrase from back in the day, that some of us still use ....much to the confusion of the younger generation who ponder why we say that when its not raining lol
Nice car. I always get that when mines got issues and running low boost people always seem to want me to gun it but always up for a little go lol. Fair play to him
I don't care if its a rep, its still got a turbo, looks like one (to a layman like me) and its really organic how the video was shot and it makes a nice little screech as it changes gear :) Quality!
Theres a guy around my area (west midlands) that likes to drive his rs500 everywere! Black on black, that YB howling like a demon. I spoke with the guy who owned it when I caught him at some shops, the guys was proper down to earth, asked him about the car and the history and so on. How the guy drove it youd think it was rep but oh no it was real, it was his dads who bought it brand new, and has passed it down to him! With nearly 90k on the clock it's done some pretty mileage for car of such value but to him I take my hat off, it's so nice to see such a piece of automotive history actually be used rather then just sat in someone's garage!
A work college of mine has one of these cars. Its worth a million and in excellent Condition.. Been working there for 2 years. Have only seen him driving his cosworth 3 times.. Rest of the time he sticks to a Fiat Seicento 1,1 😜
Yeah, I had this all the time when I would challenge imprezas and RSTurbos in my GTE.. too cold, too hot, just running in... Blah blah blah.. I loved my GTE
