Can someone explain why this works better than just using the good take?
@senorpuertas
@senorpuertas 9 лет назад
He's just demonstrating a technique, the audio you have to work with may not have one good take.

Jess Andersen Thanks for the reply! Yup, I get that he's showing us a technique that would be great to have in my toolbox. However, he specifically said this is "the best way to edit" and that "it will sound far better and much more natural"... It seems like everyone automatically sees how brilliant this is, and I don't see why this is always a better solution. Doing it this way is supposed to sound better and more natural than the already natural full sentence? I'm a newbie editor, so maybe I'm missing something.

He means that if you need to edit together two ends of text, it's much better to cut IN a word as opposed to BETWEEN two words.

Damn, this is going to be very helpful. Whenever I screw up a recording, I delete the bad audio and replace it with new audio. Unfortunately, the flow is almost always noticeably altered. So, this will help. Thanks!

You're welcome. I hope that, while my DAW of choice is Audition, like you say - these tips can be applied in any DAW (perhaps with a few minor tweaks to your workflow).

You're welcome Otis. It sounds so much more natural when you edit in the middle of words doesn't it? Good luck with the audiobook!

Hi Mike - Great tutorials: thanks! Is there a way to preview an edit before hitting the delete key? So, a way of nibbling either end of the delete area whilst listening? Thanks.

I used to use this technique (middle of the word editing) back in the days of cutting tape with a razor blade. There was no visual Waveform to look at. Just a piece of brown 1/4" tape!

There is no way I am going to match up microseconds to use two halfs of clips instead of just one correct clip.

adobePC editing two different sentences together to name 1 ...
@TechTVusa
@TechTVusa 9 лет назад
That would be wise if one take had a good beginning and a bad end and the other take was just the opposite. That was not the case in this video.
@AteekAsgard
@AteekAsgard 9 лет назад
Thats not what I meant, i meant editing two completely different sentences to make up a new sentence. I work for TV as the sound engineer, and this happens quite often in interviews, merging two different sentences, another use would be to cut out unwanted words/noises in between and make a perfect sentence.
@AteekAsgard
@AteekAsgard 9 лет назад
That is done by the editors, for us, we sometimes do it in voice overs, you may have the same sentence repeated many times, but each time it could be slightly different, especially with unexperienced voice over artists, and no matter how many takes you do, you never get that perfect take, maybe the voice over artist got the second half perfect out of difficulty but the first half was unusable. having a good beginning and a bad ending and vice versa like you said is actually quite common in the real world. Therefore you pick the best words or couple of words and slice them together. its a good skill to have, youll start listening for things you would usually miss. in the video he shouldve given more examples of how you would use this technique. what ive written are just a few. sorry for the essay but hope i got my point across.
