LEARN MY WORKFLOW FOR EDITING VOICE AND AUDIO IN ADOBE AUDITION! | In this Adobe Audition tutorial, we’ll take a look at creating a preset that will take your audio, strip out background noise, and compress and normalize your audio levels to a great volume level for use online for any audio, film, or video project.

In this Adobe Audition tutorial, I’ll go over my basic audio process using Adobe Audition to reduce background noise, normalize the levels to boost up the audio level, compress the peaks to help even things out, tweak and reduce background noise a little more, use the equalizer to give the audio some spice, boost the audio level again by normalizing, and then a series of things to limit the audio and compress peaks to get everything where we want it to be and make sure we’re not blowing out the speakers of the people listening to our audio. I hope you enjoy the tutorial!

Great tutorial man! Thanks. I really wanted that overcompressed 80's CD loudness wars sound and I think I found it. I ended up with this favorite for my voiceovers: Amplitude and Compression->Single-band Compressor (-12dB?, 16x, 5ms, 50ms, 0dB) Filter and EQ->Parametric Equalizer->Loudness Maximizer-> 6dB@100Hz, 6dB@6000Hz Amplitude and Compression->Hard Limiter->Limit to -3dB Reverb->Reverb (700,10,1812,50) 95/5 dry/wet Amplitude and Compression->Normalize (-3dB)

Following the process in this tutorial made my AT2020USB sound a lot nicer than using the contorted workflows in many of the other Audition tutorials out there. I did have to tone down the V shape in the parametic EQ and add a second pass of compression. Now my voice sounds perfect. Thanks!

Love the video and workflow! It would have been oh so helpful for the "apply limiter" step to be listed first instead of last though. :)

This video by itself propelled me into being able to use Audition really, really effectively. After watching I spent hours with various samples (Using this as a baseline) while experimenting with different settings and effects. The ones I couldn't figure out, or didn't understand their purpose, I researched. Getting started in the audio space can be incredibly daunting, I had watched other videos and attempted to do the research on my own but there were a lot of cases where people simple started by more or less jumping into the deep end and using terminology that people new to it, simply don't understand. Can't thank you enough for putting this together with that in mind - I can effectively tune my audio to produce the exact results I want, remove sounds I don't want, clean it up, EQ it effectively ( Whether that's simply adding Roll-off's or Passes or adding punch into the low-end of a voice, etc.) and more or less do whatever I see fit with any audio file I'm given/record. Just wanted to say I appreciate it. Thank you.

Thanks. Maybe I'm going crazy, but it almost sounds like this is meant to make your voice sound deeper, crisper and while I appreciate that it may make my voice have some depth, I don't speak that deeply. lol It makes male voices sound more intense and I think it kind of makes mine not sound like me. Playing with the EQ part really helped though.

Hi! This is a great tutorial. I'm expanding into Audition from Audacity now, and this has shown me some pretty nice tricks as well as made the Audition UI a lot less intimidating! Quick question - at the end of the video, after you've applied all your base editing, you discuss using a limiter if you've got some excessive peaks, saying a few times that you should do this first (which I have often found to be helpful); but, in actual fact, you're applying that limiter after all the processing has been done. Do I understand correctly that that was just to demonstrate how to actually apply a limiter, and that the best practice is still to perform this prior to any normalization, EQ, or compression?

Thanks for this! One question - does the preset favorite then include the sampling of the background audio? Or do I need to sample the noise print myself BEFORE I run the process? Ideally I'd have a first step in the favorite where it takes a sample from the first three seconds of the clip but I'm not sure if that's possible.
