I still can't get over how anti-consumer it was to get rid of ESP Standard Series and now these E-II prices are way too absurdly high to not be getting ESP on the headstock.

I agree. Back in 2008~ I bought an ESP Horizon Fr 2 with Seymour Duncan Pickups. Original Floyd rose had some issues, the guitar wasn't that comfortable to play and the Ebony fret board looked stained. I paid 1460€ and sold years many years ago. The same guitar would cost almost 3k now. there is no way I would pay that price for an ESP..I mean E ll

I fucking hate them. Have them on a flying v running through a 5150 and it sounds soo shit. Not to mention the 9 volt batteries that you need to replace every second week.

I recently went in to try a few guitars at LL and fell in love with this, currently trying to scrounge enough to purchase. I was looking around for an ESP 6 string since my LTD M7B is far and away the best guitar I've EVER played (seriously, if you have a chance, try out that guitar, it's ridiculous bang for your buck) and initially this was a little much but god damn, the feel and finish here is ridiculously good.

Tried a white 7 string Eii at Live Louder very similar to the one you did the video of, and although the price was fantastic I wasn’t feeling the neck as it was far too thick so I left with an LTD Ken Suzi sig as the neck was much more comfortable and with more or less the same spec. I didn’t pick up any faults on the Eii like you did in that older video clip and actually probably regret it as I imagine nothing like that will ever be at that price point again… but who knows… maybe I dodged a bullet, however it just goes to show that actually going to a shop and being given time to play and choose is very important! That guitar in this video looks fantastic by the way!

hey bro, i enjoyed the great review, just wondering if this is a 2023 or 24' model since E-IIs before that did not have SS frets iirc (could be wrong on that one). Even on the E-II site most of the guitars are not listed with SS frets, so unless the japan excl. have different fretwire (seems unlikely).

@@AWMJoeyjoejoe Most bizarre direction change in musical history? Lol. They went from being already a niche Rock/Death Metal act to even MORE of a Niche Prog/Rock act. I don't mind some of the newer stuff and I will always respect a band for evolving but it just doesn't light a fire in me the way something like Ghost Reveries does.

Nice review! 👍 I think they make the pickup cavities a bit bigger than needed, just in case you want to swap out the pickups. Not every manufacturer has the same size on their pickups; they can be slightly bigger or smaller. This is better than having to reach for the dremel and f up the finish.

I did think that and I've certainly encountered routing issues with pickup swaps before but from the comments there doesn't seem to be any consistency to it... strange..

You mentioned the RGA42FM. I picked up and played one of those guitars in a local Guitar Center a number of years ago. That guitar played so incredibly well that I was honestly shocked at the price point for how well it did. I've loved the few LTDs I've had/played and I'd love to try out an E-II. been waiting for this one. this guitar looks absolutely stunning. i want to add a 6 string E-II in the future. I hope they will do one with an Evertune. I really wonder too what is the reason for this pickup cavities, it makes no sense. I totally understand your point about the guitar having something magical when you take it in your hand. Even with my E-II NT7B which has the same issues that you shown on your previous video, this guitar is really a joy to play on and feels special. Keep the E-II reviews coming! There is no good coverage of them on RU-vid and you provide the best reviews by far.

Its funny what you say about the pickup cavities. Ive got an E-II M-II with bare knucle pickups. A while back i tried to swop the BKPs out for a set of EMGs and the EMGs just would not fit in the cavities because they were so tight and precisely routed for the BKPs. We're talking a tenth of a mm difference, but thats how precise they are on that guitar. That being said I also have a white E-II with fishmans and the cavities on that are quite messy by comparison, so it really is luck of the draw I think.

I bought my first E-2 7-string model about month ago despite seeing your first E-2 video while doing some research. Either I got lucky aswell or they have topped their quality control! The guitar is perfect, in every way. The paint job is top notch, pickup cavities are correct sized, Plays butter smooth and feels just amazing.

Those Opeth riffs were awesome to hear! I'd be interesting in hearing your thoughts on the new Schecter Sunset Extreme models. I'm genuinely shocked at the specs for those guys considering they retail for under $1k USD brand new.

I bought a deep red E-II M-I while in Tokyo on my honeymoon last year - if you're ever there, definitely recommend doing the same as you can get them for close to half the price they go for in Europe. But yeah much the same as you found, whenever I play it I struggle to put it down..! The tonal clarity when playing with distortion and the feel in the hands, there is something indescribably special about them. Interestingly while I was in the Big Boss (ESP flagship store) in Tokyo, I noticed the same imperfections on the pick-up cavities on one of the white 7 string models they had for sale. I wonder if it's a defect to do with that model in particular... anyway big thumbs up for all the Opeth material and looking forward to your next vid, I'd love to see one about a Mayones🤘

I have a white 7 string M-II and the pickup cavities are a mess! So much so that a hairline crack has appeared in the finish between the bridge and the cavity spreading out from one of the imperfections. I still love the guitar but I was very disappointed by that. I think you're right, for some reason the white ones do have a major issue with the cavities.

When the Paint hits an edge, it builds up. To counter this problem you rout a phase to the edges of the guitar. A phase is a 45° angled littel surface on the edge. If that phase is to big, the paint just will not dry evenly throughout the edge, creating this ugly looking finish. Somebody probaply forgot to change the router, so a router with a bigger diameter created a bigger phase resulting in the flawed paint job around the edges of the pickup cavities.

I have quite a few LTDs and an E-II. I honestly don't think the premium is worth it in most cases. Maybe I am just really lucky with my 5 LTD models but apart from some sharp frets on one of them the quality is excellent in them all, my E-II was perfect, but at the price I paid I would expect nothing less than perfection My LTD M1007B Evertune Exclusive is on par with my E-II M-II 7B. The only E-II I find myself still considering is the T-B7, but purely because I am a sucker for T shapes.

I have always found LTD models to be among the best for build quality at or below the 1K price point. I've reviewed a bunch for the channel and not had a bad one come my way yet!

Usually MIJ ESP's are known for amazing build quality, sadly they have been struggling with various issues since the pandemic. Recently, their Japan custom shop announced they won't take new orders for 2024 & maybe even rumored for next year. And they had also issues with delivering new production models, people were waiting for pre ordered guitars for almost 1 year. Also, their prices are getting ridiculous. They announced ss-frets now on the E-II 's, so expect another price hike. And yes, the whole rebranding from ESP Standard Series to E-II was absolutely stupid.

I have an ESP E-ii eclipse BB black satin. Its built like nothing else I've ever played. Its sublime. I bought it from peach guitars in the UK and it still needed a small setup which was ok not the end of the world. For the price its how it feels, it feels premium, nothing comes close. Like you said its how it sustains and resonates.

I have played Gibson for years, and all of my guitars except one were Gibson. I bought an e-ii Eclipse recently and the build quality, feel and the sound are outstanding. I have only experience of 1 but such a good experience am looking to pick up a Horizon next.

@@ChilledGuitarReviews yes - especially when you get up the line to the Kaizens and Majesty’s. 3k MIJ ESP or 3500 Majesty made in CA….source country aside, the majesty is just a better product. Definitely encourage you to review 👍 The Ball Family Reserve & limited run products are nearly PRS private stock level quality for a few grand less. My opinion of course!

You realize NT stands for neck through construction, right? Most ESP/LTD necks are 3pc.maple. Where are you expecting a seam to be on it? I love the thin U profile on my '87 Eclipse NT in pearl white. With the volute and archtop body, the guitar has a unique profile from all directions. It definitely has a different vibe than any of my other guitars. Physically from the neck through construction, and visually from the pearl white paint that pops in any lighting.

@@WFORiffs In this case I think it stands for "Not True". They make NT models with a tremolo. My '87 Eclipse can be equipped with a Floyd Rose.

I mentioned in the Specs section it was a Neck-thru. A seam wasn't what I was getting at when explaining the Satin neck. Every ESP/Ltd I've played with a gloss finish/Satin neck has had a defined cut off point where the Satin ends, usually a scarf type line. On this I could not see where the Satin ended and the gloss began, it feels like a seamless blend.

@@ChilledGuitarReviews I'm not sure you ever say "neck through" at anytime? But, that's why I asked. I'm like, this guy has to know that. That paintjob and finish probably makes is harder to see any definite lines. The pearl white paint on mine has no satin or sanded neck either. That's a feature that isn't always nessessary, depending on the texture of the finish. Luckily I have rough and dry hands that hardly ever get sweaty. That's a very unique color and finish. Very cool.

E-II used to be the gold standard (up there with Japanese Custom Shop ESP), I’ve no idea what happened in recent years. I’d like to think the first model you had was an unfortunate defect/outlier but this new model is absolutely stunning! Also, I don’t know what it is but for some reason, ESP/Ltd’s always sound better with EMG’s for whatever reason (not sure if it’s because they use Mahogany a lot of the time which is a duller/darker sounding and slightly muddier wood which I think EMG’s compress better than brighter/narrower sounding pickups (bareknuckles/fishman etc)). ESP and Ltd are like the only guitars I prefer EMG for but every other modern metal manufacturer, it’s nearly exclusively BKP and FF’s. Edit: Lol!! I wrote this comment before finishing the video and me and you think alike with the woods!

E-IIs still are the gold standard as far as I'm concerned. For the money I really don't think you can get better.

I don't think the E-II was ever seen as the "golden standard", the old ESP Standard Series on the other hand was really great guitars with great workmanship, in my opinion the E-II's isn't playing in the same league as the old ESP Standard Series was, it's clear that there has been some additional cost cutting going on and not just a change of logo on the headstock.

I’ve got 2 EII, I have a horizon purple sparkle baritone 7 that is just tits!!! Then I finally got my EII tb7 that waited over 2yrs for, and it’s def worth the wait!

The fishman pickups = 😡 From my experience they are just hype. When I think of legendary tones they aren’t from fishman and although I would say it’s possible for them to create a really great product as you just described your feeling about the original esp. The fishman was disappointing and I would gladly take emg bone breaker or an 81 any day.

No and I have never done one for the channel to date. Live Louder loan me the guitar in exchange for the 30sec plug at the start but don't have any input on the videos content and don't get to see any of it before it gets released.
