I had a classmate whose mom, CM, was a NICU nurse. She dealt with several cases like this sadly. One case she always remembered. A couple had their baby too early as well. It was so sad because they'd been trying for years before they managed to get pregnant and then out of nowhere for no reason she went into early labor. Their daughter lived for eight hours before passing. In that time the parents were able to talk to her, hold her, and tell her how much they loved her. Their priest also managed to get there in time to baptize her. And then she passed. A few days later CM and the doctor who'd been with them every step of the way each got a letter thanking them for giving them those 8 hours. CM did see them a couple years later, but thankfully this was a happier occasion because they were able to get pregnant again and delivered a healthy baby boy.

I was an extreme preemie, born weighing 2 pounds at 26 weeks. I had some close calls, including a brain bleed and being resuscitated. I have a really good life now, though I have some very mild issues due to my premature birth. I have mild cerebral palsy, jaw issues which caused me to have braces for most of my childhood, high-functioning autism/Asperger's, and a seizure disorder. I am very lucky to be here in the state that I am. Overall I am functioning very well - I am currently studying to become a psychologist who researches/works with people with autism/intellectual disabilities/other developmental disabilities. I just want all parents to know that there is hope out there. Though in this story the baby died, it is possible for preemie babies to survive and live good lives.

I'm sure he was probably less than 24 weeks (the age of viability). Their prognosis for him wasn't good, and he didn't survive. It didn't say, though.

@@saraflint2982 wish I could watch the full episodes it probably said it during the episode. even at 24 weeks the probability of survival is only 40% and still significant medical problems for the rest of their life. Some babies have survived at 21 weeks, but had significant medical problems. You're probably right that they were referring to a less than 24 weeks baby from how the episode went. Probably more like 20-22 weeks or less.

Why would they put a dnr on a baby
@KristenK78
@KristenK78 4 месяца назад
It’s an extremely premature fetus. There was little chance he would survive, and a high probability that resuscitation attempts would cause more damage and little good. Some parents understand this and focus more on the little time they have, just loving on their baby and letting them go as peacefully as possible.

Technically now a days just delivering a baby before 24 weeks is considered an abortion and is thus illegal.
