GL.iNet is a Hong Kong-based tech company that builds a lot of interesting gear, including cellular routers. The company is now taking pre-orders for its most advanced cellular router to date, the Spitz AX.
Visually similar to the original GL-X750 Spitz, the new Spitz AX is both physically larger and makes a multi-generation leap with advanced features, including an X62 5G modem - all for a very reasonable $519 MSRP with a pre-order special of just $415. For those who don't need or want 5G, the Spitz AX is also available with a Cat-16 LTE modem for $469.
It is feature packed with multi-WAN support with an Ethernet Port, USB Port and Wi-Fi as WAN.
Is this new router a decent choice for nomads?

As an IT professional who travels in Europe with a campervan, the primary drawback of the Spitz AX (GL-X3000) 5G router is its limited operating range of 0-50 degrees Celsius (32-122 degrees Fahrenheit). This becomes problematic during both summer and winter, especially when you leave the van some days and you need remotely to access devices like the security cameras. In extreme conditions and either overheat or stops to operate from extreme cold. The Spitz AX (GL-X3000) may easily reach its operational limits in such scenarios. Given these considerations, I would opt for the Teltonika RUTM50 (EU model) or RUTX50 (USA Model). Despite their reliance on Wi-Fi 5 and the Qualcomm X55 modem, their wider operating temperature range of -40 °C to 75 °C (-40 °F to 167 °F) makes them more suitable for varied environmental conditions. Hopefully, Teltonika will release a newer version soon with Wi-Fi 6 capabilities.

I bought this, I have a business so I got an Att sim for it. It’s not simple to configure I had to have a tech from Att do most of it by asking questions about the unit, afterwards there was a notice to reboot for new update. After that no problems It’s actually excellent I use it in my RV I recommend it highly

I believe you had to enter AT&T’s APN settings? Because that’s what I had to do to make it work with Verizon.

Can you bandlock with the AX3000? Is there an option in the user interface that is preconfigured to allow bandlocking? I'd rather not use AT commands to bandlock. Thanks

Hi, you mentioned using an external antenna on the Memo 1 & Memo 2 on the router. The antenna that I want use is the Poynting XPOL-1-5G but this has 4 connections and not sure where they go on the router. The cables are in 2 pairs, the first pair is CELL 1 MAIN & CELL 1 AUX DIV. Second pair is CELL 2 Main & CELL 2 AUX DIV any help would be greatly appreciated.

This router has 4 cellular antenna ports - a 4x4 MIMO antenna will work with it.

I live in rural Indiana and only have 4G LTE, I use the spitz 750. I usually only get 2-3 bars which equates to 22-30mb down. I do not have 5G out here. Will this make my 4G connection better?

The LTE capabilities are much higher than that of the 750. But only head to head testing at your specific location would determine if there is more capacity there or not to tap into.

It does support band locking/masking. Would recommend contacting Gl.iNet to confirm the other features you seek - as those are not ones we track.

I'm hearing mixed reviews on this. Some are impressed by the specs - but others report bug and a poor sensitivity to LTE signals. Is there any truth to these potential 'problems"? I'm particularly interested in rural areas.

I have this router. However, I cannot get clients to connent to the Internet with either LAN or Wifi. T-Mobile has provided me with a hot-spot sim card and provisioned my IMEI number. Still cannot get online. Any ideas here?

The GL-iNet Spitz X750 sounds like what you’re looking for. I’d check out the website, they have several 4G LTE options.

I am a member and will be interested in the review, however, is there a carrier that will sell a physical sim (or esim for that matter) to use this device as a hotspot only. It seems the major carriers really want to tie you to them by requiring devices that only work on their network and for which data plans are, to say the least, sad.

Hi guys! Great info and love the channel! I own the GL-X3000GN and absolutely love its performance, however, your documentation page says the GL-x3000GN with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X62 (Quectel RM520N-GL) is supported by Verizon but I've been working with them for over a month to get my IMEI entered into their DMD (Device Management Database) and after speaking with 18 different people I've gotten 18 different answers from them. Long and short of it, each time a ticket is submitted to them to verify if this modem is "allowed/compatible" with their network they reject it saying the IMEI is not valid and thus the router/modem is not compatible with their network. I'm guessing you guys know something I don't, how'd you verify it works on the Verizon network?

Thanks for this review. I have been pondering devices like this for about a year. As a trial this spring I bought a TP-Link ER605 and it worked but the failover was very slow and kinky so I have given up on this. Thais could be great option for me as is the Balance20X. Keep the VLogs coming on this device. Thanks for all.
