Thank you, thank you, thank you. I received my T-Mobile sim card today and put it in, but couldn't connect to the Internet. Following your directions here, and working from my phone, I went to the sim to set TTL to 64, saved it, and yippee skippee, I'm on the internet. Connected with my work laptop, too. Yee-haw, I can now work from my rig again! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

This is super cool I am currently using T-Mobiles 5G Home Internet option that I am paying 35 per month with a Military plan add on. However this seems like a great way to go as I would love to run my own PFSense router with a separate 5G LTE modem. On top of that I could save money by just doing an add on data only line. Service is pretty good in my house but I would love to run an external 5G LTE modem that can sit outside and cut some of that interference that occasionally knocks me over to 4G. I have also found that my iPhone sitting next to the T-Mobile Home Internet router always has 5G and is always testing faster speeds…. Hmm coincidence I think not! I am definitely being throttled on the home internet service so it would be nice to eliminate that soft throttling.

Hi, I have enjoying your videos on the gli series cellular modem routers. I purchased the SPITZ 3000 and it is awesome. I got a tello card after seeing your video and am asking how do configure it on the Spitz x3000. I got the APN settings and have called tello but they could not guarantee at their cutomer service that it would work. You managed to get it to work. Can you give me the correct modifcations and settings to use with the tello card. I now have an active tello sim and phone connection but haven't been able to get on line with it. Any info would be appreciated as to how to go about the correct configurational settings with the tello card for hotsot useage. It would be great for camping when I go for a few months or for a back up use. Dan

Great reviews on the 2 units. I learned about the different sims sizes after I ordered the 750. I have the nano and tried using a sim nano to micro adapter, and it didn't work. I now have the 3000 and so far I love it. I see alot of people saying to use 65 for the TTL because it has a router in it. I get the same speed with 64 and 65 so I'm not sure what number I should use.

I haven't found much info outside of their website, so THANK YOU for the detailed analysis! In your "Spitz X750v2" review you mentioned that you used an iPhone to activate the sim, then placed the sim into the router. After this the router was not recognized as a hotspot at all, but instead like any other phone. Is that the same case for the Spitz X3000?

I'm glad to share! It can be tough to find info about these. I actually didn't have to do activate the SIM outside of the routers, they natively recognized the routers as just another phone. The X3000 was really just plug and play after changing the TTL to 64!

Where does the bottle neck in uploading occur? If one router talks to another router what kind of uploads speeds can you get. Do the carriers limit uploads for reasons like they don't want people with the power to send out data to the internet.

good morning, I am aware that this router has the "failover" function which is the function when a primary source ceases the connection (ethernet or sim 1) it automatically switches to the other (for example from ethernet to sim 1 or from sim1 to sim 2) . I am aware that it also has the "load balance" function, i.e. with multiple sources connected to the network (e.g. Ethernet, SIM 1 and SIM 2) and multiple connections (e.g. PC, tablet, home automation, video surveillance, etc.) with the load balance the bandwidth coming from the Ethernet is distributed for example to the tablet and video surveillance and that coming from the SIM card(s) instead between home automation and PC). I would like to know if it is equipped with the specific "multiwan" function, i.e. if you connect an Ethernet source to the WAN port at the same time, and 2 SIM cards with related ISPs, it is possible to have the connection from all 3 sources at the same time (or at least from 2 ) to have the total sum of speed and bandwidth on a single connected device (e.g. PC for heavy downloads). Thank you

This device would be fantastic for repeating an existing wi-fi signal while routing all traffic through a VPN or the like, but as for cellular connectivity, definitely give it a test. There are cell boosters, though I've not had the need for one! We tried one high gain antenna and didn't notice any difference, but there are folks that mount antennas high enough on their RVs and claim to get signal far more places. Others use Starlink, though that's just not something we've cared to try being that we get excellent service most places that we visit and Starlink is very expensive comparatively!

I'm sure that you could pop both SIM cards in, and while I don't believe that there is load balancing on this unit (or I haven't seen it) where it cuts your overall usage in half, you could get one card up to the limit, then switch cards in the interface. That would be easy enough!

Hello! You sure can, there's an AT command to change the IMEI to whatever you want. It does work with Visible though I'm not sure you can power off of the Mac. Technically, if you got a step down converter to go from 12V to 5V, it could work in theory from USB-C. The unit should draw no more than 14W, so it's not impossible!

Very informative videos! I've seen both your spitz & 3000 now. I'm not very familiar with sim cards, what is best route? I looked at the t-mobile website for sim cards and their asking for my phone number & IMEA numbers. Are you just buying a standard phone sim or hotspot sim or telling them your putting the sim in this router?; So confused, thanks Erik
@CozyLivingMachine
@CozyLivingMachine 5 месяцев назад
Thank you! So I've never tried to order a SIM card online, that's a new one to me. I usually just go to the Apple Store, request a free SIM card and then call to get it activated. I just let them know that I'm still shopping for an unlocked phone, going to buy one used or something like that, and that I'd like it activated on a standard plan, such as an add-a-line sort of deal. Then it's a SIM card that you can pop into any device! When you pop it into this router and change the TTL (for T-Mobile, that number is 64), it will behave just like any other phone with data and even texting, other than be able to make calls. The carriers don't know that it's a router instead of a phone, they just need a generic device on their end. I hope that helps!

From what I can see in the specs and poking around in the interface, it appears that you can load balance between a SIM and Ethernet, for example, but not between two SIMs. I wonder if this is because there's only one modem inside with two SIM ports instead of two modems? @CozyLivingMachine
@CozyLivingMachine 10 месяцев назад
Good question! So a SIM card is the same no matter what. There are three sizes of SIM cards: mini (largest), micro and nano (smallest) SIMs. This unit takes the middle, the micro size. When you receive a SIM card from the cell provider, or a third party such as the Apple Store (which offers them for free!), you get all three and you can punch out whichever size you need! Then you call and activate the SIM card on the phone line. If you're having difficulty accessing the SIM port, you may just have to slide that silver retention piece over, then lift, and it secures the SIM by pressing back down and sliding back into the locking position. This visual may help: 3.bp.blogspot.com/-VtxuP0coIRc/WAj1pKpAogI/AAAAAAAAH0I/2VWa3GVekf0YNdp6VE4ARTDu91AsgMz3ACK4B/s1600/0.png

However the new plans included a premium 5G data service where you get guaranteed unthrottled data. Depending on your plan that is either 50GB, 100gb, or unlimited 5GUC data.
@wilty5
@wilty5 9 месяцев назад
Thanks, I’ve been with T-Mobile since the late 90’s when the company name was Voice Stream which they later changed to T-Mobile. I definitely should have been grandfathered in if that’s how you get the add a line for 10.00, so there has to be some other way to get it for 10.00. I’ve heard others say that they have been able to get it for 10.00 so I’m trying to find out how. My plan has unlimited everything + a hotspot.
@ShaneTheGeek
@ShaneTheGeek 9 месяцев назад
@@wilty5 So in order to get the 10 dollar rate you would need I think have at least 4 devices/lines on the plan and then the 5th one you add would be a tablet/data olny plan. T-Mobile gives you a $5 dollar per line discount if you have autopay and electronic receipts enabled. So the $15 per month data only add on would "in theory" net out to $10 per month. So yeah a ton of things need to line up to get a $10 add a line but it can be done but only if you have a granfathered plan which it sounds like you do!

Just got mine, but it looks like my SIM is limited to 4G as I can only get 92Mb, and it's 92Mb no matter the time is middle of the night 92Mb, 7am 92Mb, 1pm 92Mb, 5pm 92Mb 9pm 92Mb and I live in a pretty populated area. So yeh gonna need to test it with another SIM, to be fair the network I am with doesn't have good 5G coverage anyway so I'm going to a network with better 5G coverage as well between the two I'm hoping for 300Mb, but really as long as I get 150Mb reliably I would be fine with that because I live with someone else, otherwise I would be pretty happy with what I have as to me anything around 100Mb is fine. but with another person when they are streaming a film I want them to have 50Mb for that and that still leave 100Mb to downaload stuff. Edit: Yeh with a new SIM at worst I am getting like 200Mb and at like 5am I am getting 500 - 600Mb which is like really good for my usecase, when I say like 200Mb it's more like ~250Mb which my goal was a reliable 150Mb, so more than enough, and honestly most of the time I am getting ~350MB it's only at busy times that it goes as low at ~250. I do plan to get an extieror antena at some point, but given that I just spent £450 on the modem / access point and I'm actually saving up the money to convert a van this and that as said 150Mb+ reliably was my goal and I smashed that with 250Mb at worst-although I haven't had rain at a busy time yet though, so I don't really know the minium I will get yet-it's not a priority. My first priority is to get driving lessons coz I can't even drive yet so saving for that first.

Great video product review... Couple quick questions - is there is a way to have the two SIMs along with a Starlink connection? My second question is does the manufacturer have a roof antenna like the Pepwave Mobility 42G 7-in-1 MIMO Antenna? My last question is, I thought I saw two ethernet ports, is one for a physical LAN connection?
@CozyLivingMachine
@CozyLivingMachine Год назад
Thanks! If you wanted to run Starlink, you should be able to run the Ethernet into this guy and use that as the primary connection, just using this device in a router function. The cool thing is it also has load balancing built in, so if Starlink isn't doing the trick, it can also use SIMs for that. Really neat feature. I don't see any accessories on their site for external antennas, but (having never adapted other antennas) I believe that this is a typical antenna connection and I know others have shared their best results in the GL-iNet forums! This does have 2 MIMO antennas, so that may be something to consider, I'm not sure how that would affect things. Yep, two Ethernet ports, one LAN and one WAN! You can hook up a small switch to this as well if you need more LAN, of course. 😊

We are looking to buy a new vacationer 35k or bounder 35k in the next 12-18 months for bucket list travel - we both need reliable fast internet - originally looking at peplink but this maybe a equal but lower cost solution. As for the roof antenna, it actually provides better connections than just the antenna on the router. This is because in the RV is surrounded by metal obstructions that reduce the signal versus the antenna being outside of the rig. Also just found your solar videos so going to run through them to see if there are anything I might have missed.

The phones are restricted in device counts that can attach to the shared network at any given time, typically up to 5 devices. With a phone tethering you have no connection when you're away with your phone (security cameras are a good use). Most less expensive plans also limit your usage to a few gigabytes of hotspot data usage per month whereas this is unlimited like a regular phone.😊

This looks very impressive! I have been really enjoying your videos about this. However, I'm a college student looking to save on monthly bills. I'm intimidated by the $500+ price of the router on Amazon. Is it worth the dive from monthly $150 payments to a half-a-grand device, especially one that I'm unsure on its inner workings? Don't know yet. What is the process of setting up the sim card with the device? I'd rather not create a new account and line for a service I don't use. I use USMobile for my phone, so I'd like to stick by them. Would their sim cards be compatible? I think they run on either Verizon or T-Mobile if that matters... thank you for your work and these videos!
@CozyLivingMachine
@CozyLivingMachine 9 месяцев назад
What I might suggest, especially because of the very high up front cost of these devices, is if you can do $50/mo, check out both T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless home internet. There shouldn't be an up front cost for the device at all, and the plan is $50 or less, depending on whether you already have their service! However, if you were to go with something like this unit, it's just a matter of adding a regular phone line, or using your existing SIM card, and then setting the TTL settings in the router. I can't say whether USMobile is compatible, but it'd definitely be worth a shot! These devices have a ton of LTE and 5G bands built in!
