Gladiators (2024) Intro // BBC ONE Continuity (13/01/2024) 

Loved it, such a nostalgia trip for those of us who watched the original in the 90s, same logo, same opening theme, and the arena looks the same, bloody brilliant

What’s brilliant about this version, is that they used the original theme from the 90s!! 😁

Genuinely impressed with this version. The fact that the original was ITV, it’s quite amazing that they’ve used the original music.

This is how you do a Reboot correctly

Just seeing this intro with the original theme and arena aesthetic, already destroys that mid 00's attempt at a revival. Stoked to watch the full episode!

30 years later and here i am watching Gladiators again! I'm buzzing. My favourite show back in the day. Jet, Lightning,Wolf. Good times.

This sounds like the intro to the Thundercats with the increased tempo, horns, guitar, vocals, sound effects and roars!

This is what made great weekend tv. Pure passion and entertainment. Wolfs antics. Lots of laughs and it encouraged young people to get fit. I dont know how long this reboot will last. But its so great to see it back regardless.

The BBC have got this spot on. I notice the action replay graphics are similar to the 90's version, the theme is the same and some of the events are the same. Absolutely brilliant, a blast from the past, awesome.

The interesting thing which seems to have been learned over the past few years, is the skill of not changing something. There was a time, particularly from around the mid 90's, where there was a misguided need to alter things way too much, for no real reason. I'm thinking of disasters such as Jim Davidson's Generation Game, The 1995 Krypton Factor, The final series of Telly Addicts, series' 7 and 8 of Noel's House Party. Some things require change as time progresses, but it's about knowing what to leave well alone and how far to take change when it has to occur. Until a few years ago, the train of thought would have been that you couldn't just completely mimic the old series because it would look old fashioned. So they'd revamp the theme tune, redesign the set, bring in all manner of changes to distance it from the 90's. But here, we just straight up have the old theme tune, graphics which match the original look, same set design. Even the clothing of the Gladiators is proper 90's. And when you look at other recent revivals, such as The Big Breakfast and The Crystal Maze, they've been more inclined to just recreate the show as it always was, rather than try to reinvent it. My mind instantly heads towards Knight Rider, as a prime example of where attempted reboots failed due to unwelcome change. All the fans ever wanted was what it originally was. But producers couldn't accept that a show with early 80's styling could ever work in that form years later. Gladiators might be a standout lesson in just keeping what was originally created, if it works well enough. You don't need to try and reinvent the wheel.

I love how the new gladiators takes on the ques from the original, that it follows the themes of the original

I remember the other one they did it was a complete flop this one brings back old memories

I felt the power of this version of the classic intro when it got straight to the verse and showed the new gladiators 💪🏾

So glad they used the original song - not even rerecorded or anything!! Disappointed they didn't use the original music for each event, especially the Eliminator.

I’m glad I had to watch this show today

The producers of the show have done very well here. They’ve retained enough about the original programme to make it nostalgic for the 30+ year-olds, whilst giving it enough energy to be appealing to the youngsters. They’ve cast the Gladiators well, too. A good bunch. My only minor gripe would be that - having retained the traditional theme tune - they then haven’t retained any of the traditional music for the specific events. Please bring back the original Eliminator music. Likewise, for Dual and Hang Tough. The background music for these events seems largely forgettable otherwise. Any minor criticism aside though, thank you for resurrecting a Saturday night classic.

About as true to the classic series as you can get. Loved watching the 1st episode tonight.

I don't mind reboots being different to the original, but visually having a modernized version of the originals aesthetic is much nicer than the Sky reboot, where everything looked so bland.

They just need to bring back the international gladiators be good to see our Aussie gladiators team up with uk gladiators again

Loved this. Took me back to being 8 years old again. Can’t wait for tomorrow night’s episode. Kudos BBC, that’s how you do a reboot.

So the BBC basically took an LWT show and gave the public what they wanted. Meanwhile on ITV, they relaunched Wheel of Fortune and completely f**ked it up

I've been rewatching the 90's episodes this last week & I can confirm as someone who grew up with this, they did a phenomenal job recreating the magic of the original, the new Gladiators are already giving me character & the host's did well, I hope they grow in confidence as the show progresses... I just need a slightly more enthusiastic theatrics from the Walsh's & crowd. But I loved it regardless, Lightening, Jet, Nightshade, Hunter, Rhino & Wolf being my favourites. 🏋🏽‍♀️🏋🏻‍♂️

Speed up the intros then you can fit in the build up before the lyrics. But love they brought the theme back!

It's not often you open a show with a theme tune tecorded over 30 years ago. Seems to have been a huge hit for BBC One though. Who knew the thing that might knock Strictly off its perch was with us all along?!

i have just been watching Gladiators and i think there is a new version of the wolfman in it only this time its Viper who's Aggressive and doesn't like losing i remember that happend with wolf but other then that i am glad that gladiators has returned.

I could guess the reason why this has the classic ITV theme is because I can guess MGM owns the rights to it. Needless to say, that's what I thought when I heard it and really surprised me! This reboot was pretty good as a whole.

What happened to Wolfman? I can remember him being a sore loser. He was a bad sport too. He reckoned that contestants that beat him were very lucky. He refused to shake hands with them after they had beaten him.

The opening was great at least not cut or edited sbd keot tge originally soundtrack theme song since the 90s its works in 2024 plus the opening is extrnded beyond 58 seconds so coukd hsve cut it to say 1min and had hosts hyoe up abd rause habds abd keot the theme song going during the announcers pluss should still be in Birmingham International indoors arena

I like that they have kept the theme tune and the basic format of the 1990s show but added a few new events and of course new Gladiators! you can see some of the echoes of the old characters - Diamond is the new Jet Phantom the new Shadow Giant the new Warrior Apollo the new Hunter And Viper the new Wolfman! etc Maybe it is just me, but I see echoes

The problem with the 2024 version is that it might as well be called multilateral Gladiators it should of been 100% the same as the 90s one with cheerleaders and no PC bullshit

Honestly, whilst it's a pity the rest of the soundtrack was a bit lackluster (has the opposite problem of the Sky One Reboot's overly serious score which I still like bits of where this one is too mild) and thought the Ring is skewered way too easily in favour of the contender (should work more like Pyramid), I thought it was fine. We'll see how the rest of the season goes.

Thought this was a good revival. Bradley Walsh is disappointing as host unfortunately.
