No copyright infringement intended. Gladys and the Pips made Motown PROUD with this amazing Norman Whitfield hit...i stretched it with original Funk Brothers backing track!
Just in case you didn't know, the owner of this channel, mosogotam, whose real name is John Perrone, sadly passed away April 5, 2020 from COVID-19. He was an absolute genius for this and all the other wonderful tracks he created. May he rest in peace.
@broddybounce I really miss John! I found out in December of that year and was stunned to my soul. Was thinking of him today and decided to listen to his remixes. May he Rest In Peace.
Oh no I did not realize that. I subscribed to his channel . Great content enjoy listening to old R&B reminds me of real soul music a term that is not even used today
GREAT version!!! I always liked Gladys' rendition a little better than Marvin Gaye's. Every time I hear this version, I can't stop myself from dancing, and her vocals are just amazing.
....I have to concur ..... When I lived in Vegas a friend of mine lived down the street from her brother( in the same neighborhood) and years earlier I had met her and her brother... they actually came into a place where I worked ,- we did their dry cleaning it was a very high-end dry cleaning place- the nicest people you would ever want to meet ....Real genuine , kind ... it was not an act and her brother ( Bubba ) actually had a barbecue at his house for some of the neighbors and my friend was invited and he took me and they were beautiful, gracious people.... you all have no idea. Impressed and pleased that he and Gldys are still performing on occasion, and he is her Manager.
No auto tune just pure talent..this is THE best version of Grapevine.....Gladys Knight..The Empress of Soul..and rightly so In my mind this lady is a whole heap better than Diana Ross...the in fighting at Motown forced a move elsewhere.. Mastermixer Mosogotam..you done it ...AGAIN Sir..
Brutha Dnubian Actually my family is friends with the Knight family for years. She was 22 when she actually recorded this in ‘66. She had turned 23 in May of ‘67. It was just released to radio in ‘67.
I watched them do this live in concert-------The Pips------OMG, could they step. ---------Worst of all, they made it look easy. -----------------------wolfSky9, 72 y/o
That was all done by my grandfather the late great choreographer Cholly Atkins, thank you for recognizing is Phenomenal work. Although To their credit my uncle William Guest Uncle Edward Patton And Uncle Bubba DID IN FACT make it look EASY!!!
On this day in 1968 {Feb. 25th} Gladys Knight & the Pips performed "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... Four months earlier on Oct. 21st, 1967 it entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; it peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks} & spent 17 weeks on the Top 100 Thirteen months later on Nov. 23rd, 1968 Marvin Gaye entered the Top 100 with it; his version reached #1 {for 7 weeks} Three other versions charted; King Curtis {#83/1968}, CCR {#43/1976} & Roger {#79/1981}
Thanks for sharing this music history! I was barely born then (born in November of 1967), but thanks to my mother and father, I grew up with this music. I am grateful that I did.
This is the first one of Gladys Knight's songs that I learn how to sing I never had her money but I had her voice and I still got her voice to this day I'm not Gladys but I carry the same voice that she does first and second Alto Now sing it Gladys
Another fantastic Motown hit fresh from the Soul record label. I love most of Gladys Knight and the Pips' songs. In fact, I hope that all the Pips are alive. They sound better on RU-vid.
@@monicabella7894 "Mrs Franklin" never recorded a note for Motown. Early records were at Columbia, the classic stuff was at Atlantic Records, the first soul record company. Everything at Atlantic was R&B. The Young Rascals were the first white act.
Wow, What a great extended version of this song!. I won a case of Corona beer on a bet about this song about 10 years ago. Me and some friends were watching football but listening to a classic rock X-M station , and the Credence Clearwater version was playing and Sammy Meli said that he likes this version, the original the best. And I told him that John Fogherty didn't write this song, Norman Whitfield from the Motown camp did. He was sure that John wrote it and we debated about it for 20 mins. So I bet him a Quart of Jack Daniels if he was right and a case of Coronas if I was right. So the next week we had football night at my place and we googled it. The Coronas sure tasted good that night. Norman sure made a difference in this world. RIP Brother. Paz Y Amor
Marvin who? Marvin who? Roger who?😂😂😂😂 Although I love Marvin’s version better, Ms. Gladys WORE THIS OUT!! That Funk Brother on the piano blasted it! Berry Gordy should have hired YOU to make an already great song greater! This extended version shows the raw talent of one of Motown’s greatest! Salute!! Oh and I love what Roger and Zapp did for this song as well.
Gladys Knight & The Pips, Singers. 'Nuff said...Motown Records founder Berry Gordy held out releasing Marvin Gaye's version for about a year after this one. Part of my "Throwback Thursday"-Billboard # 1 Soul Singles; 1965-1969. Thanks for the upload, mosogotam.Blessings
I was so lucky in I believe June of 1968----I got to see Gladys Knight and the Pips sing this song (I heard it though the Grapevine) live at the Carousel theater in West Covina California! Man were they GREAT! Super GREAT! I also got to see Cab Calloway introduced to the audience during the concert. He was so handsome dressed in a White Tuxedo! Also the great Hugh Masekela was fantastic with his song "Grazing In The Grass "! A fantastic show!
February 5th: Happy birthday Singer-songwriter Barrett Strong (80)....had Motown Records' first hit record, "Money" (That's What I Want"... with Norman Whitfield wrote this hit for Gladys Knight & The Pips as well as The Temptations' "Just My Imagination" and many others. Thank you and God bless. Thanks fore the upload, mosogotam. Blessings. #keeprockin
Feb.5th: Happy birthday R&B-Soul Singer-songwriter Barrett Strong...co-writer of this and many Motown Records song with Norman Whitfield. Okay, hold up! Never, ever, Ever, EVER has anyone so tech-saavy had as much musicality as you. Until now, one could be either a great engineer OR a great music connoisseur. In this dimension of existence, the heavens have never made the mistake of putting superior "techspertise" and superior musicality in the same shell of flesh . . . that is, until mosogotam! Congratulations, my friend! In an already exalted body of work, this effort ranks among your very finest.

mosogotam THANK YOU FOR THE AWESOME MIX OF A FAVORITE I GREW UP WITH. MARVIN GAYE'S VERSION WAS ADMIRABLE, HOWEVER, GLADYS KNIGHT AND THE PIPS WERE THE MOST RELATABLE TO MANY.
