This scene definitely shows that Ms. Knight has a sense of humor. We really don't see this kind of thing where a guest star has a part like this anymore.
Gladys was a sitcom star in her own right. She had already appeared in comedic roles alongside legendary funny man Flip Wilson on his variety show and again as his wife on the short lived *Charlie & Company.* (Also starred a young Jaleel White years before becoming *Stefan Ur-Kelle* on another little know sitcom called *The Family Matters,* a spinoff of the hit series *Perfect Strangers.)*
@@UncleDuTheWatchman Charlie and Company. It was a good show. It didn't go off because of ratings. They just decided to pull it. They didn't want Cosy and Flip Wilson on at the same time, with similar shows.
Florence you got it right. I have not heard another Black woman who can sing with that one-of-a-kind pop soulful perfect pitch voice that can be incorporated in a love song, R&B ballad, show tune, Jazz and Blues, country western, and spirituals while keeping the authentic style of the music.
Just turned 50 & as mixed race child I always wanted a mother I never had one. Every time Gladys would come to Chicago I wanted my father to go to the concert hoping they would meet, get married & Gladys would finally be my mother.
I was 10 years old when I first saw this. And it would be 7 years later that I would be singing background for Gladys Knight in a children’s choir and stand next to her in a recording session
This remind me of that other episode with Billie Dee Williams. She had no idea it was billie she was talking to. She thought it was an imposter. But in this one she has no idea it was Gladys Knight she was talking to. LOL
😂 Lol! Awww... It's clipped off right before Florence tips the white worker & also tips to for Gladys too. Without her knowing it. Now that's what l call, being classy & having a good soul. That Florence. 👌

Funny you would ay that but the writers seemed to think so or else Diana's name would never had been mentioned Thank you! two totally different types of singers with different voices one has nothing more than the other. Both are great.
@RJM ....well ms knight is a true soul singer who voice got better with time ...unlike some singer... But Mr Green go on RU-vid and REALLY listen to how she tells a story with her music
Even Diana Ross? Oh, I certainly hope so. I cracked up considering on Diana Ross had Gladys Knights and the Pips thrown off a tour with them in the 60s with the Supremes.
This one. And Billy Dee Williams are one of my favorites.. I remember it was an interview with the remaining cast of the Jeffersons excluding mother Jefferson and Roxanne roker.. Marla Gibbs wasn't the first pick for their housekeeper in auditioning. She appeared and wanted to episodes and by the 4th or 5th episode she landed. What a great series. All the African American sitcoms had their own greatness with their respect, but I think this show for me has to be my all-round favorite! And yes the theme song is ralona from Good times..
Gladys Knight has NEVER hidden her dislike for Diana Ross, and even in this episode (between laughs and laughs) she MADE SURE you knew, she DID NOT like Miss Ross!!! 🤣4:28
