Hi friends. This is a video on GLASGOW COMA SCALE (GCS) with interesting animations and mnemonics on sports. If you are also fan of cricket, you will not forget any of the mnemonic. And after watching this video, I'm sure you will be able to calculate GCS score of any patient in ER, or wards (specially head injury patients) as well. And it will also help you in monitoring chronic patients in ICU's. Calculate the score in each category (as I have told in my video with the help of mnemonics) and then note the final GCS as EVM score. Maximum GCS score is 15 and minimum is 3. if the patient is intubated or tracheostomized, then note maximum score as 10T.

I had the pleasure of working for the Royal College Of Physicians And Surgeons of Glasgow and Sir Graham was our president at the time. I also had the pleasure of working with Sir Graham on the Wedding of one of his sons in the College Hall which turned out to be a very successful day and night and Sir Graham couldn't thank me enough. He was our President for 3 years and his successor was Dr Brian Willams who was another very nice President to work for

The only thing I feel is probably lacking in it is how to interprets the range....e.g. 3 to 8 being severe impaired level of consciousness etc. Other than that it was insightful and will definitely share it

Veeluvstocook_ : actually whenever we talk about the GCS of a patient..we hv to mention in terms of EVM individually like E2V2M3..here, total score is less than 8..So this score suggests that the pt is comatosed and also is an indication for intubation(this is same for pts with GCS 3-8)..otherwise, while assessing GCS or while follow up of a pts GCS, its not just the total score..we have to interpret in terms of EVM..I hope, m able to clear ur doubt??

sir , I was taught that for tracheostomy or intubated patients its written as T , and taken 1 as minimum score ( not NT ) this question was asked is may 2018 AIIMS could u please explain
