WOW! What a week! This week Ann searches and tests several glazes for her textured pottery. We test several Amaco Celedon Glazes and a couple of Mayco glazes…interesting results, check it out! Oh, and before you comment below with “why didn’t you use test tiles first???” then you obviously do not understand the Little Street Motto of “Ready, Fire, Refire!!” We don’t need no stinkin’ test tiles man…we live on the corner of Risk and Adventure! Oh, and other thing…if your eyes are going nutty looking at some of the textured mugs in the video just know that ITS NOT YOUR EYES! The cameras we use suffer from something called “rolling shutter” and when recording certain patterns (like closely cropped lines) they tend to freak out a bit. (Please see any Canon Cripple Hammer video at Camera Conspiracies RU-vid page). Enjoy friends!

AUG.2 UPDATE: The pics of the mugs we refired are now posted in the Community Section of this channel. Compare those pics to the Cone 5 result in the video for reference. Interesting!

Thanks for this video. I too fired the amaco glazes to cone 5, but they came out quite matt/ not shiny as I hoped! I will try cone 6.

Great. We thought we would do a little of both, but didnt really have time and the resources to make other hand made glazes. the commercial ones came out so well, in the end I was glad we chose to do ore of the commercial ones. thanks for watching Jean!

Hi Penny. Hmmm...maybe I shouldnt give up on the cobalt so quickly then. At least on that piece, the dark color just seemed to take over. I was very distracted to the point, I didnt see the texture any more. It was like it flattened out the whole thing. Perhaps the cobalt would work for other pieces.
@annruel9142
@annruel9142 3 года назад
@@KatAtkinson Hi Kat. In my mind the whole point of the glaze was to highlight the texture, but when I saw the dark cobalt, in my mind it took over as the star of the show and left the texture as the secondary character. But of course it is all subjective. I am heartened to hear that others like the cobalt. Perhaps I wont give up on it so quickly. thanks for that!

I know exactly what you mean when glazing a piece with really deep texture. I found that using a big and really fluffy fan brush like what mayco sells. You have to keep the fan brush really full and that helps so much. Great tests! Thanks so much.
@annruel9142
@annruel9142 3 года назад
Hi Michele. Great tip. thanks so much. The soft bristles from the fluffy brush help to get it down in those crevices for sure. The good thing is that the glaze has additives that keep it wet longer so you can work it into the grooves easier without it drying on the brush.

How much weight can the dent puller hold? Can you dip a bowl using the dent puller?
@LittleStreetPottery
@LittleStreetPottery 2 года назад
We’ve used it on small bowls with no problem. It probably depends on how tight the seal is...some clays may attach better (less grog etc) allowing for more weight. Good luck!

I used a cross hatched matt made out of strips of birch bark. I have also done spring wire flute cuttings. As well a line or rope made of hemp can be used to texture with. Slip clay also gives body to a form and can be excentuated with the used of glaze. However, I like simple fingerlines and ribs strokes belts or hair pick waves of course the swirls or a spiral.
