Thank you for the video. I’ve been looking to see how to do it. Are the glazes runny or normal, and does it just run because of the amount of layers?

Fairy Rose on it's own is pretty stable but pair it with the Archies Base... now things are going move. AB is a runner on it's own and will move whatever you pair it with too! So, keep it from being too close to the bottom of your pot or you'll make a mess. Some glazes are 'runners' others stay put...some you can coax out movement if you apply them on the heavier side, but it's trial and error...you can get adverse results if the glaze is too thick, things like pinholes or what I call frothing...which looks and feels terrible. Sorry, there is no black and white answers in ceramics there is a lot of grey! 🤭

Love the colour and the drip! How do you clean the brushes after? Can you clean it down the sink?
@SarahWaltonPottery
@SarahWaltonPottery 4 месяца назад
Thank you so much!! As for. Cleaning the brushes, I have a cup of water that sits beside me when I glaze and I soak the brush in there to get most of the glaze out of the bristles then I can wash it with soap in the sink, as that cup gets to dirty to clean anymore I will dump into a much larger bucket . overnight the sediment settles to the bottom of that and I can siphon off the water and leave the sediment which I can either dry out and try a mystery glaze later on or toss in the garbage. You really don’t want all the sediment from the pottery process going down the drain. It’ll clog it up eventually! 😬🥰

@@SarahWaltonPottery Ah thank you so much! It really needs planning. I’m just slowly getting into setting up my little home studio with bare minimum and I’m faced with all these questions that I never thought about when I was learning 😂

Do you paint the drips and than paint the rest of them mug? Or do you paint the whole mug first and than do the drips ?
@SarahWaltonPottery
@SarahWaltonPottery Месяц назад
Hi, I just apply the glaze in a wavy shape so that when the glaze moves in the firing there is a low point which helps coax out the drips. Hope that makes sense. I've seen people paint on drips but that's not what i do. I just load up the glaze and let the magic happen with the heat work in the kiln. 🥰

How can i avoid drips😅 ?

@SarahWaltonPottery 4 месяца назад
Hi Mario! So sorry it's taken me a bit too long getting back to you! To answer you question, YES. You need to use glazes that are stable. I like the drips so I layer and use fluxes that help give the movement, but if you prefer a more defined look you can use underglazes and then a gloss or matte top coat. You can also use Celedon's they are typically very stable. A beautiful Turquoise glaze that is very stable until you layer something is Power Turquoise by Laguna. I'm not sure what part of the world you are from so look online and usually the glaze manufacturer will provide info about the glaze characteristics. I hope this makes some sense! 🤭

@SarahWaltonPottery
@SarahWaltonPottery 7 месяцев назад

@@SarahWaltonPottery Yes thank you so much,I did find its name right after I asked u! Do you have any good recommendation for type of glazes cheap and affordable for beginners? And that doesn't absorb water , colorless and it only gives after you finish painting on the pottery that glass effect!

@refreshingAnd 6 месяцев назад
@@FilmorokistYou want to use a clear glaze. The chemistry can get complicated because there are clears with and without zinc. Knowing which kind you would want will depend on what you’re putting the clear glaze over. It could also depend on what temperature (cone) your clay needs to be fired to. The glaze you use should match the cone of the clay it is on. If you are new, it’s highly recommended that you work with someone who knows the details that can help guide you.

thank u so much that was so helpful but unfortunately ,..I DON't have someone to work with ..so the journey may feel a little bit heavy but I ll keep going.@@refreshingAnd
