I feel like Mike's entire character was built on the fact that he couldn't sing and the only reason he was in glee was bc he could dance but honestly the few times you heard him sing he was pretty good
I don't think so? He wasn't a good singer and he was mostly a dancer, but he was in a relationship with Tina, he had an episode focusing on him and the pressures from his dad - I feel like he was defined as a dancer in the same way Rachel was defined as a good singer and future broadway star. They both had other aspects, but at the end of the day they were a singer/dancer.
Katie Mon Mike may not have the strongest voice among the male members of the glee club but I think that his singing voice is pretty nice to listen and he should’ve gotten part in group singing.
I love the symbolism at the end where we see Santana and Karovsky. She’s halfway out of the closet, wearing her shirt but not dancing with the others while he’s not even close, zipped up and with his arms crossed over his chest.
I love how Santana is trying to accept it but she put ‘Lebanese’ instead of lesbian. It’s a perfect example of how even tho she’s trying to be okay with herself, she still feels so much shame that she can’t even outwardly admit it. I loved her character development and that she got to finally be herself with Brit so much 💛
@@darielzahidpalacios1605 I think he did accept himself. Like others in his situation, maybe he was just trying to save himself the pain that would come with fully coming out. Being bullied by kids at your school that you barely know puts a lot of pressure on you. You tend to think the same or worse will happen when you come out to the people truly close to you
I think it's because it almost looks like a dance move so people who don't know ASL would just think that it's another dance move like any other. It's kind of a bilingual bonus for those who know ASL
But I actually like his singing voice XD. He may doesn't have control on it and a small range, but it's strong. And he could be considered a countertenor on the lower range. Anyway sorry rambling, got carried away.
Watching this being 16 years old back in the day, Naya captured through Santana exactly how I felt about myself at that time. The fear of accepting that I was different and the repercussions it would have on my life. She made me understand that it was okay to be myself, and doing so I'd have the support of my friends and family. And it was exactly that way. I can't believe that Naya is no longer with us as I'm writing this. You will forever be a force larger than life and a bright light inside out hearts. Your legacy will live forever. Rest in peace Naya. ❤️
You're lucky you had Naya, but us asexuals had nothing. The writers probably didn't even know asexuality existed at the time, since it was still seen as a medical disorder until 2013.
@@pandahtoemateo3321 True, tv shows are a product of their time, and Glee was very cool because through all the jokes and exagerated drama, the representation of diversity that at the time was just begining to be accepted in mainstream was outstanding. I may have outgrown Glee by its 5th season, but I really learned a lot from the series. Now I do wish to watch asexuality being represented in mainstream series, and not only that, but the spectrum of aromaticism too. Wish there were more tv shows with demis to also make people realize what that actually means. Sending love to you!

I loved santana so much. She struggled a lot with her identity and you can see it here and her journey to acceptance was powerful and real. This show in the beginning was so important to me in my adolescence. RIP Naya ♥️
He’s really not. Don’t get me wrong, glee was revolutionary at the time for its representation of gay characters, but it’s not actually that great representation, especially considering the queer characters in tv and movies now.
@@wesanderson420 he was tho. Did he fit the flamboyant gay stereotype? Yeah, but that doesn’t take away how revolutionary and impactful he was. Fitting the stereotype doesn’t automatically mean bad representation.
@@alondraa.3522 again, i completely agree that kurt was groundbreaking representation. it was revolutionary to have a gay character play a significant role in a mainstream tv show. however, in terms of quality, kurt falls far short of his successors. the problem isn’t that he fits a stereotype, it’s that his character lacks much nuance outside of this. there isn’t much to say about his character outside of his gayness. he also feeds into more definitively negative gay tropes, namely his pursuit of finn in season 1 perpetuating the idea that gay men are predators out to seduce straight men, and his persistent role as “gay best friend”. once again, i do not mean to undermine the significance of his representation. glee really made great strides in terms of representing queer people on screen. perhaps the original commenter was referring to his impact rather than the character himself. i just thought it necessary to point out that kurt doesn’t really serve as a good representative of real queer people, and that there are many better examples of well written, nuanced queer characters in more recent works. though, i think it’s fair to say, they might not have existed without kurt’s influence.
I love him so much because he feels like a real person, and he adds a lot of heart and humor to the show. That's why I consider his character to be a wonderful representation for LGBTQ+ people.
@@ellieragsdale4398 i didn't intend to undermine the significance of his character in the landscape of queer representation, nor his personal significance to the viewers. he was one of the first openly gay "lead" characters I ever saw in tv and i know this is true for many people. i just think it is misleading to characterize him as "one of the best representations of the lgbt community " as there are many more nuanced and accurate examples of queer characters in modern media, no small part in thanks to the groundwork glee laid. he is certainly a very important and beloved queer character, but saying he is genuinely one of the best examples of representation is a stretch.
Glee has really changed my life... Santanna most...she has taught me to be brave, and strong, no matter what they say including my own family, Kurt a lot too...he has taught to fight for what I think and believe...like all of them...now, each time some one critics me for who I am...what I like and how I dress...I think about Puck...they're just scared of their future and they just want to feel sure and better with themselves, they want to believe that they're better than us...I compared them..I think about the song Loser Like Me...I love that song and one day, in front of the school...I dedicate to these girls the song, and told them that no matter what they say...I'm who I am...and nothing and nobody is never going not change how I am and they ways I think. GLEE HAS TAUGHT ME TO BE BETTER AND TO FEEL SURE AND COMFORTABLE WITH MYSELF, it is the only way to live a peaceful and controlled life and like the others.
@jesus is a biscuit honestly with a lot songs on Glee, the only sing part of the songs due to time but really the only times they sang the songs fully were competition for songs. Which I find weird because they cut out good parts of a song.
when this episode came out when i was in hs, my musical theatre class all decided to make t-shirts like this and wear them to school and it was such a beautiful day of solidarity and loving who we are. it was really special

Mines are Kurt, Santana , Rachel and Brit I hate Blaine and it makes me sad to not liking him because he's the love interest of Kurt but he was so annoying (but I liked him in season 2 he was a real prince charming )
I love how serious Brittany and Kurt look! It's so funny. Everyone else is grinning and having fun with it and then you look at Brittany and Kurt and they're so serious! It's like if they smile or anything the whole thing is ruined! I love it!

But those of us who enjoy both shows can acknowledge the characters from both shows. . . the world won't end if someone watches a Glee clip and makes a reference to a Shadowhunter character just like the world won't end if I watch a Shadowhunter clip and refer to Harry's character as Mike Chang.

this was great but i'll never forgive them for leaving out the "no matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, transgender life" part of the song (at this point glee wasn't as gay as it became later, maybe they were trying to keep it down but anyways)
why? this whole song is basically about it anyways. and this was the end of season 2 where kurt, santana, brittany and karofsky were gay. what do you mean werent as gay? the whole karofsky and kurt storyline was happening by now
if I were to pick one song to try and sell a potential new fan of the show on, it would be this one. The messaging and the subtext of Karofsky crossing his arms with a sweater on at the end.

Thank you Lady Gaga for such a spectacular song for all kids in high school! Kids have to go through so much these days and it is songs such as this that give them HOPE that things will get better! I still play this song in my high school classroom today in 2023 when the kids get bummed about things. I put on RU-vid and we have "Glee Time." The kids STILL love it and dance all over my classroom. Brings tears to my eyes!
