From November 1983, Glen Campbell talks with Dan Miller about his hometown Delight, Arkansas, living in Phoenix, his new son Cal, his grandkids, growing up in the church, early days in New Mexico, his work in the Wrecking Crew, Merle Haggard sessions, how “The Summer Brothers Smothers Show” made him recognizable overnight, doing the movies “True Grit” & “Norwood”, his perspective on tabloids, the troubled period of his life, finding “Rhinestone Cowboy”, learning to play bagpipes, working with the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson’s breakdown, working on stage as a solo act compared with being in a group, the reaction of Irish audiences, the humbling effect of golf, not worrying about getting older, the importance of integrity.

Glen has done a lot of very laid-back interviews. this was one of them and a really good one. How we miss Glen. he was one of a kind, and a VERY remarkable talent.

I enjoyed this interview very much and the more I see Glen back in his prime the more I like him. My MOM just died of ALZHEIMERS in June so my heart goes out to him and his family.

I love how Glen is so humble - he refuses to take any credit for putting Delight, Arkansas on the map.

He would have loved The Corrs since he loved Irish music so much. Very talented family of musicians and singers.

I like his line when he said, "Here Lord, take the reins, I'll ride in the cabin". This was after his highly publicized tumultuous period with Tanya Tucker. But what's strange, those years they were together, on tv, they seemed like they were really in love. I guess the drugs & alcohol must have ruined it for them.

He didn’t slag Tanya in this interview obviously not on drugs and alcohol this time

Wish someone had the Dan Miller interview with Jerry Reed.

What Dk J said Below is a crock of bull!! You should be ashamed of yourself if you don’t know or have never met the man.Dk : WRONG!! I don’t know what makes you think this, but having played with Glen before and after the Tanya fiasco, he was sober here...It’s actually one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen him do. I’ve been a fan since I was 13 and learn to play guitar by watching his TV show. Ended up being a session musician in Nashville and still have a custom Ovation guitar that Glen gave me when I was out in LA with Jerry Reed to be the entertainment after one of his celebrity golf tournaments. He was not sober then. Several years later he came into Nashville to do a Jerry Reed CBS Special that I backed him up on. That was the guy I saw on the interview. You shouldn’t spread gossip when you don’t know it to be true and you don’t know the person you’re speaking of. Normally at this point I would call you in a jerk. But I’ll take a little bit of my own prescription and withhold judgment on you. BB

Oh yeah, Google Clan Campbell. When I traced my own heritage I found they originated in Glasgow, before emigrating to Antrim, Ireland and generations later to the States.

Dan Miller, godresthissoul, was a bit of a stuffed shirt; he was the anchor at WSM TV in the 70s-90s. Me and a buddy were driving down West End Ave in Nashville in 1977 and came to a red light. To our right was Miller stopped at the light. We beeped the horn and Miller turned and looked at us, and we raised up a doobie to him and I took a big toke. He gave us a look of huffy disgust and drove off. We had such a laugh. That was in the old Nashville when it wasn't a Disneyland tourist trap with awful singers as it is now.

I doubt there is anyone who likes his music more than I. Yet, to me, he seems like a guy who in a heartbeat, could lose his temper and I speculate his kids can tell you about it. Just saw an older video with him talking about taking off his belt, and then said "and I don't care if they are 20" and honestly it was pretty chilling. Looked and sounded like a mean drunk (which he was). Not as nice as he might have you believe, or so it struck me. I know no one is perfect, and he never said he was, but still, he strikes me as a guy, especially in his youth, who was a real--sorry Glenn, prick.
