I was a lineman for 35 years. Fell off poles, worked over 24 hours and more straight during storm damage, blew stuff up, and worked on some of the most important days that you can have for my family to restore power. I would do it all over again. Thanks Glen.
My mom and dad use to listen to this song. My dad died when i was 6, he was 32. My mom died 2 years ago at 93. Its been 10 years since i heard it. And i literally teared up. Had to hold back the tears because it bring back such good memories. And then i read the remark below that said it all. "Gosh what happened to this world"....sigh
Ashley will be a star on her own some day. She inherited a lot of Glen's musical ability. It's just that she is young now, and her soul needs a little more maturing. After all she didn't have the advantage of picking cotton in the Arkansas summer heat as a child like her Dad did.
Salute to Glen Campbell, who led an 'interesting' life, and was a musical genius. Paired with another genius, Jimmy Webb, they were like Bacharach and Dionne Warwick.
He might own it but that doesn't mean he can't rent it out! He would have loved the stunning version done by Girl Named Tom on The Voice ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WPUNAY9L_Zs.htmlsi=Qg7hq2Vnikdenaxi
If you're at the point of Alzheimer's you would definitely not be performing like Glen did here, not even with dementia, because even with dementia,he would not be able to perform, this would've been some time before diagnosis, of having dementia which leads to Alzheimer's.
@@johnbravo7542 Wrong. Glen was diagnosed several months before this performance and did a farewell tour with his son and daughter playing in the band. My mother was a wonderful pianist and one of the last things she could still do in the final stages of her Alzheimer’s journey was to sit down and play. She could only manage one or two short tunes, but what she did play was just as accurate and inspired as when she was much younger.
Yeah, I’ve seen that posted by a few people but never heard the source for the quote. It’s one of those I’d LIKE to believe but what’s the reliable source of the quote?
@@danc3693 It is on youtube. Alice Cooper discussed his close friendship with Glen. They played Golf together. He said that Eddie came to him one day and asked, "Can you get me a guitar lesson with Glen." It shows how highly he thought of him. Glad to say I saw him twice live. He played the guitar like he invented it. Cheers!
There is such a sense of appreciation and loss with Glen. He made things look so effortlessly that many didn't realize he was one of the best in the world. And when that's gone, you're thankful for the recordings and videos.
SOOOOOOOOOO Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prettiest song he ever did and will continue doing thanks to technology. We love you, Glen! We will Never forget. You are here in our hearts and you melt mine everyday! "And I need you more than want you-------But I want you for All Time". Prettiest lyrics Ever!
What a treat for Ellen's audience to get the full extended solo in one of Glen's virtuoso performances. And of course his kids were great. Ashley will be a star on her own some day. She inherited a lot of Glen's musical ability. It's just that she is young now, and her soul needs a little more maturing. After all she didn't have the advantage of picking cotton in the Arkansas summer heat as a child like her Dad did.
When he'd do this song, he would improvise a lot on the vocals and the guitar parts, and he'd always nail it. Perfect pitch, as someone said. At the time this was done, his Alzheimer's was pretty bad, and he'd get lost sometimes, but here, he just nailed it.
i watch this over and over... Such a classic and such a talented man. And to watch him perform with his children just touches my heart even more. God bless you, Glen!
Tears and goosebumps…so moving and beautiful it hurts, but, oh, what a hurt. He exquisitely expresses so much of our humanity. We thank God for you, good sir. We bless and thank you. 😊💕🎶🙏🌎
This song always makes me sit up and whine and cry. It's so filled with yearning, with love and that Jimmy Webb is something else! This song is just something fabulous! And I've been posting it today because of the lineman in Texas.
@@joshrandall5297 Eh? They have this guitar turned down all the way except for during his solo, since he (quite understandably) is not anywhere 100% in his playing. you can see him twiddling with the volume not understanding what the issue is since he can't hear himself. He is then confused that the other guitar player takes the riff before the solo, messes up parts of the solo and switches oddly between guitar and mic in hand. It's amazing he was at all able to perform at this point, but no reason to pretend he was at 100% here.
Every now and again I put some of Glen's music on, what a great voice, what a great guitar player, what a legend, I love the way that his children are always there watching over him like he is now over them R.I.P Glen.
I saw him in the 90's and also saw him on his Good Bye tour. He had a hard time relating to the crowd (because of the Alsheimers I'm sure) but for the most part played and sang wonderfully. What an amazing talent!
I couldn't stand Glen Campbell as a kid. He was my parents country and western type of musician and I loved rock and roll. Of course, as I grew into a lifelong guitar player, I developed HUGE respect for this guy. What a picker.
Just the most lovely song I remember it and being moved by the words and performance in 1968 when the words were interpretively- as tender as they are today.
There just are not words enough to express the emotions running through me as I watch the man who was responsible for my love of music and songwriting perform at such a high level in spite of his advancing illness.
Wow... What a Trip.. Here it is The 12 th day of December. 2021.. The first I have seen this .. How very Awesome... SMH. Thinking of My Dad. He passed away many years ago.. I was so Young.. Today is His Earthly Birthday.. How Amazing to see this ✨ Merry Christmas✨ Good Vibes from Cali.
God Bless his immortal soul - and his guitar genius ;-). May You music forever be "Gentle On Our Minds", dear Glen. And thank you, Jimmy Webb, for this unsurpassed song!
@@ramsdukefsu22 He had already been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, it was moving pretty rapidly. It had been there likely undiagnosed for several years. On this tour, his kids wanted to be out there with him, his lovely daughter would often help him.
As a guitar player myself, Glen was my HERO . Got to see him preform many times through the years and he just got better! Saw him in Michigan on his last tour. It was GREAT! Miss him deeply but his music lives on.Great to see his children keeping his legacy moving forward.RIP my friend
This is man is a true Legend. I'm not a country and western listening person but when it comes to Glen Campbell, and a few other true country singers I listen.I grew up with Glen Campbell's Good time Hour and True Grit what great great movie. God blessed us with Glen Campbell.
The Rhinestone Cowboy ❤What a voice, his contribution to American music is simply incredible. I know as an Irish child the first song I remember being in my mind was Rhinestone Cowboy , and so began a lifelong admiration. Rip Glen Campbell 🇮🇪🇮🇪
