I lost my wife two years ago tonight to HLH very suddenly and not sure if this song is about something like that but it makes me think of her and I would drive all night to taste her tender charms and buy her some shoes
From the first hearing of this song when it appeared on The River album, it became my favorite song of Bruce's. Bruce's live version of this song are simply emotionally crushing and powerful. My second.....Jungle Land.
Have always loved this song and Hansard's rendition is just beyond wonderful. I always have to listen multiple times because the first time I'm a teary mess ! Well done !!!!
This Song Is Absolutely Beautiful, Glen Hansard's Voice , The talented Eddie Vedder on strings , and The Amazing Jake Clemmons and his super sexy saxophone. If I had three hands for three thumbs up, I'd still be trying to grow another hand for one more well deserved thumbs up. Love It
When I lost you honey sometimes I think I lost my guts too And I wish God would send me a word send me something I'm afraid to lose Lying in the heat of the night like prisoners all our lives I get shivers down my spine and all I wanna do is hold you tight Baby, baby, baby I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes And to taste your tender charms And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms Tonight there's fallen angels and they're waiting for us down in the street Tonight there's calling strangers, hear them crying in defeat. Let them go, let them go, let them go do their dances of the dead (let 'em go right ahead) And dry your eyes girl, and c'mon c'mon c'mon let's go to bed, Baby, baby, baby I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes And to taste your tender charms And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms There's machines and there's fire waiting at the edge of town They're out there for hire but baby they can't hurt us now Cause you've got, you've got, you've got my love girl, you've got my love girl Through the wind, through the rain, the snow, the wind, the rain You've got, you've got, you've got my, my love.... heart and soul...
I first heard this song on Australian Radio National( the inside sleeve) as I drove from inland Queensland to meet with my family on Magnetic Island.. there was not and never has been a more perfect song for this setting. Love all Glen Hansard's music and his down to earth real life view of the world and how we all fit in.
I know this may take some flack, but the best Bruce songs are covers. This song, this version, is incredible. Mannifred Mann’s version of Blinded By The Light, is a classic.
Wrong. Mostly that song. I have heard it live a couple of times, and this version doesn't come close to Bruce's live versions (or even his album version). And I love Eddie Vedder, he is my favorite singer. And it's also one of my favorite Bruce songs.
Interesting. I admit...Its hard to hear one of my fave Springsteen songs(and one of this caliber)- covered my another. I've been listening to this for decades. But i do dig Glenn Hansards music though and I do believe they all did a lovely job of this perfect song.
Send me something I'm afraid to lose :-) reminds me that to be waiting for what I need and not what I want is the aim, that's the priority x0x This song is golden :-)
Eddie needs to go back to his roots. I miss early Pearl Jam. Aside from a few occasional good tunes (ex: Hard Sun) from his solo stuff, it’s just nowhere near as good as a track from VS or Ten.
Hey gĺen...i never sold that autographed telecaster pickguard. 😉 the memory is worth more then money. The pictures i got w uband colm behind massey hall in toronto. Still got the t shirt and CD. But also gave the posters u signed to my friends u met. I flagged rob and your tour bus walking back to union w akshay and matt. He came out and sto stop the bus and gave a homeless guy $5 American answered all my guitar questions in-depth it was awesome and then I took more pictures and got his autograph also on my tele pickguard and Les Paul pickguard one of the best shows ever I just wish me and my friends could have sat together or stood together and danced you guys rock congratulations on the 23rd anniversary
I have listened to both Bruce and Glen's version and either way it is an absolutely beautiful piece of music and lyrics to listen to over and over! Very special song, judging by comments it sparks a lot of memories and moments for people and I can see why.... To those who've lost someone or left someone or have been left it just strikes a chord with everyone..... Cheers guys for this that sax solo is soooooooo wowwwwww!!!!
Bruce gave Glen permission to cover this master price alongside two of his best friend's ,there's not to many men that started busking on the streets of Dublin that can say that
