I love this - thank you for posting it! I'm currently in AAU going for a degree in animation. It's great to see this and it encourages me. So, again, thank you!!! :D
It's all about money and time, really. Traditional animation costs too much and takes too much time compared to CGI because each frame needs to be produced from scratch; whereas with CGI animation, once you produce characters and scenes, you never have to produce them again. You only have to animate them and move them around. But there are scenarios where traditional art still has the advantage, like with graphic novels and comic books. Each scene in that case may only be used for a few frames at most, so it's more efficient to just draw it out rather than spending so much time constructing a complete CGI scene. Anyway, I was surfing videos and figured I'd offer my thoughts. I miss traditional animation as well. :(
KLAUS! WATCH IT PEOPLE. Anyway the real reason is that 3D is much more conjusive to a group project. You can make something, preview it to a large number of people in a state near polished, get feedback and then rework things in a pipeline much friendlier to editing.
My guess is the seminar was featuring The Beast, Tarzan, and Pocahontas, but the user wasn't able to record the whole thing. He also animated Ariel, Aladdin, and Rapunzel to name a few.
