It's starting to get cold out there, some would say... a little chili? (That's a little joke... go make my bourbon maple chili!) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WBjtNft2N-k.html
This one is extremely mild and smooth which is what I love about it. Alot of whiskey makers think it has to taste like moonshine nowadays, I don't get it.
After trying 50-60+ whiskies over the past year, this ranks in my top 5, probably top 3 for single malts. I dont really know what you could ask for to make it better. I have tried plenty of more expensive ones and besides maybe some of the Islay's, none have been worth more than maybe $50. I actually tried Glenfiddich 18 and it wasnt as good as the 12, although I didnt have them back-to-back.

The Glenfiddich 12 was the first single malt I've ever tried and it ignited my passion for single malts but as you mentioned, as my taste developed, I find myself drinking less and less of it. Nowadays I much prefer the 15 year old solera style. However, I think Glenfiddich is a great distillery and having had the opportunity to visit it, I can say that it offers the best tour of all the distilleries in Scotland.
I have only recently got into whisk(e)y but I have been doing the same. It helps to cleans the palate, and because whisky doesn't have the same water content of wine and beer it really dehydrates you.
Its a superb starter for sure, but its a great one to return to after you've been on the journey stemming from this start. When you get reconciled back to this 12year, you'll not be disappointed and it will be remembered as good as your memory of it. Always a good reunion. Glenfiddich is an institution of scotch pleasure.
I'll have to recomment lol. I mentioned before, this one has it's place for Scotch beginners (me last year), for a "warm up dram" before moving on to something complex later on, like waking up your taste buds. Or it's great for a casual drink with friends or family when you might not necessarily be talking or analyzing whiskey because its just downright enjoyable overall.
Oh I agree. I like it just fine, but I've never been to a bar and though "oh! I HAVE to have a Glenfiddich 12!" More like I scan the menu and everything else is bad or too expensive and settle on it.
I think it is also a nice palate cleansing whisky if you had a sherry or peat monster and want to readjust your tastebuds. It’s interesting as the Glenfiddich does change based on what you had before, for me it’s a stock it.
@@atb8660 Oh yeah, that reminds me of when I had Ardbeg then I went back to Highland Park 12 and all I could taste was sherry sweetness. I think the pear in Gelnfiddich 12 goes well with a smoky cheese.
Before the repackaging and few years ago, the Glenfiddich 12 actually taste like a properly aged 12 years scotch. It's my daily dram. The recent bottles taste abit younger and with slight off putting sour note. For now, in the similar price range, I'm sticking to JW Black 12, Glenmorangie 10 & Glenfarclas 12 as my to go scotch. However, their travel exclusive and NAS releases are not too bad.
I've been trying different scotches because I'm bored of bourbon. My first one I tried was Lagavulin Offerman edition, and then Lagavulin 16. That pretty much ruined all others because it was so good! I grabbed this one last night in hopes my wife might like it.
Me and my Grandad use to have a drink of Glenfiddich most evenings when I visited after work, for the memories alone it will always be my number 1 whisky (bonus it was the first whisky I drank)
Great video. Very decent whiskey, but personally I’ll pay a bit more for something with more punch and character. Stuff like Bunnahabhain 12, Arran 14, Deanston 12, etc. But its a very good Scotch for beginners.
I would stock it and regular order it at the pub. While I agree with you comment Stephen but if I am at pub with crap glassware (90 percent of pubs) there is no point ordering a fancy whisky you will be frustrated by failing to get the complexity and if you out with mates then the focus is not on the whisky anyway. Jameson or glenfiddich 12
Great review! I hope you can do a review of the Glenfiddich 15 Solera as well, I've been wanting to try it ever since finding about the solera process!
I agree with your "try it" rating. I'm glad I didn't buy my own bottle--I thought it was a bit underwhelming for the price last time I tried it. Maybe I'm just a bourbon guy instead...
I’m kind of done with 40% whisky, but this is actually not bad for a 40. The only 40 I definitely is going to pick up again, is Cragganmore 12. But Glenfiddich is a safe choice in a non whisky bar 😊
I like the Glenfiddich 12 year the best. On a different note if anyone needs a good bourbon for a reasonable price try The Duke. My cousin and I have introduced around 30 to 40 people to it and everyone has absolutely loved it. It’s definitely our go to
I loved the green/candy apple burst on the nose, was very unexpected from a scotch! I found the palate didn't live upto it as much but I could still taste the apples an hour later! I won't mind having this one around! Pricey tho... Let me know whats similar shelf and also has the fruit apple notes! Debating Aberlour 12 or 1792 Small batch from what I've read for around the $50 -$75 CAD price point.
I can't recommend any scotch to you, but I watch you for recommendations for a really good scotch for a gift for my son when he finally graduates from college. Anything with a hint of coffee maybe. $200 is the absolute maximum amount I will pay. Thanks.
This was one of the first Scotches that I tried (I started late in life drinking whisky). Drinkable but not at all complex and even rather bland to my taste.
Kicked off my evening a couple of hours ago with a dram of G12. Always enjoy it. Ashamed to say that I also have the 15yo, 18yo, IPA experiment and Fire & Cane but have yet to taste!
I don't normally spend $50 on any bottle of alcohol. Just not my thing. But usually once a year I'll buy something around $50 to drink over Thanksgiving/Christmas. I was looking for something and it came down to Glenlivet 12 or Glenfiddich 12. This was last year and I ended up going with Glenlivet which sadly I really disliked. I did just try Glenfiddich today though and I must say it is delicious although maybe a touch too sweet. Would definitely buy again though.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary darn... apparently I can't find it at my stores here in PA. They are state run here and not so great when it comes to selection ☹️
I always get apple on the nose with Glenfiddich 12. I think it is solid classic whisky. I know it is common for people (edit: not actually talking about whisky dic) to crap on a classic to make themselves feel more discerning but I think this is very unfair to a great single malt
I would like to add it’s great for introducing folks to whisky, it is great for giving to folks who want a session on whisky but don’t care about a flavour journey and it is fantastic for when you want a whisky in a bar with terrible glassware
I didnt think I was all that unfair. I said it was good and popular for a reason, but its the lowest age statement they make. Its not going to be mindblowing
Hi Bill, have you done Singleton (Glen Ord) series? What you think of this? I’ve got one Signature bottle but it’s easy drinking, fruity, light bodied and bland. Nothing like the Glenfidditch 12 year or even Glenfidditch Reserve Cask.
between yours and the dummies review of this, I think I'll have to finally try this one. I skipped over this one on my intro to single malts somehow and ended up mostly in islay lol, that being said I do love all the regions of scotch so looking forward to trying this one
Glenfiddich 12 has been the world's biggest selling single malt for around 45 years and this offended the purists mightily. purists = old guys with tweed jackets and pipes On receipt of that news the Grant family cried all the way to the bank then cranked up the volume of production. My favourite of the series is the 15 which is an extremely pleasant sherried and non challenging dram that slides down ever so easily. Leave the pipe at home.
I can't speak for others, but when I started this channel 7 years ago - nobody else was doing that... it became my thing. I figure, it's there if people want it and it's skippable if they don't.
Sorry I don't think that this is a good whiskey… the taste is dull and it doesn't open in your mouth so much.. Btw your face expression when you taste it tell the story..
The Whiskey Dictionary yeah I would be interested to hear your thoughts. I thought it had a some nice flavours but a strong metallic hotness that couldn’t be tamed with ice or water. I like peaty stuff just didn’t chime with me
