Everyone praises her most Oscar worthy performance playing Alex Forrest in Fatal attraction. For me her big time Oscar rob was at the year she was nominated for Dangerous liaisons and lost. That performance was a level no one ever could reach like she did.

Dangerous Liaisons is top 3 favorite movies. Better than any of the dozen or so performances I’ve seen of the play. She was definitely the lead but had she been placed in the supporting category, I couldn’t imagine her losing. Glenn's performance in Fatal Attraction as Alex Forrest is a force of nature. Insane, scary, sexy, iconic, memorable. Glenn is Hollywood royalty and a screen legend. Her face is a unique face like those from the classic Hollywood stars (Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Vivien Leigh, etc). The fact that she never won a competitive Oscar is one of the biggest tragedies in the history of the Academy Awards. I'm from Brazil and she's my all time favorite actress. Here's the thing- Glenn Close has never delivered a bad performance. The industry measures box office and reviews. Glenn Close can do a dramatic reading of a phone book and still be good. Honestly, I hope and pray that Sunset Boulevard will be made into a film, and that Glenn wins everything. Right now, it's a wonderful third act of a long and successful career. She will win before awarded the Honorary. She has artistic integrity and she will win. She deserves every nomination and deserves to win each time. what displeases me about Olivia Colman's victory in 2018 is precisely the denial of the prerogative of legend that Glenn Close is sometimes denied... an actress who has triumphed in all media and who continues to reinvent herself, for me in the same level of Meryl Streep (and sometimes even better) her legacy was enough for her to win that year, and that happens with the men in the industry, leonardo di caprio and Al pacino for example, but women have twice the effort, but shes has a great legacy and nobody takes that away from her.

Well, the award is neither about your legendary status, nor your legacy, nor your body of work, nor, let alone, your gender. It all boils down solely to your performance in a particular film. Olivia was undeniably phenomenal in The Favourite as validated by her win.

Dangerous Liasons is on of my favorite books, and that movie was brilliantly done. How there were no acting Oscars for that movie is quite astonishing. Glenn Close, on Broadway is everything. Good Jesu, Norma Desmond was breathtaking. She’ll win an Oscar, we just have to wait to be blown away by what her next rolls maybe. The Stepford Wives was pretty entertaining though.

She's one of the most robbed actress in Oscar history. There's something with The Academy that against Glenn Close. She could've won in Albert Nobbs, she had strong Oscar bait performance with insane transformation and overdue card but still lost to Meryl (who also fantastic in The Iron Lady) especially since Meryl already won 2. Another crazy turn for her fate in The Wife vs Olivia Colman (The Favourite), surprising won by Olivia when everyone predicted Glenn only competition was Gaga. She had strong year, swept the award season, plus overdue card and veteran status with push campaign, she's in the comfort zone everybody talk about Glenn Close finally win an Oscar but still lost in the end. She done all The Academy check box but keep losing. Not sure if she ever win any Oscar in acting category at this point.

And going by the way we follow precursors, it's still the closest she got to winning before The Wife winning Best Supporting Actress at the National Board Of Review & Los Angeles Film Critics Association & runner-up in both the New York Film Critics Circle & the National Society Of Film Critics. Fatal Attraction would have been an all time winner, though I still think Holly Hunter in Broadcast News & Sally Kirkland in Anna probably had stronger shots of winning if Cher didn't win. 1988 was so up in the air, I genuinely wouldn't have been surprised at Glenn winning in Dangerous Liaisons, she so deserved to!

Wow! As much as I was anticipating this video and as much as I knew it was going to be good, Brian, you have outdone yourself! Bravo. I hope this retrospective actually gets in front of Glenn's eyes because it is simply lovely and expertly crafted! I can't add more to the conversation than to say that I personally believe the reason she has never won an Oscar, and as utterly inane and superficial as it may sound, is because she's not your stereotypical Hollywood beauty. She's beautiful but not necessarily glamorous. And I'll leave it at that because as true as I believe that to be, her talent is breathtaking and eternal and should be rightfully celebrated. My favorite performance was in Dangerous Liasons, yet I agree her strongest work is in Fatal Attraction. But the biggest takeaway from this video is all the television movies I've missed out on of her work. I remember being a big fan of her Sara, Plain & Tall films but you have opened my eyes to some other great movies I definitely need to check out! Glenn will win her Oscar and I can't wait for the applause and standing ovation she will receive. The loses may be worth it just for that moment but not really. She should be an Oscar winner many times over and it's videos like this that lessen the sting of that inconceivable snubbing while highlighting the urgency of why she deserves it. Again, well done!

I disagree, Anna was a little seen mixed reviewed film and she won the Globe thanks to her famous campaign there and with a help of Shelley Winters. There is no way she was second when Holly Hunter who was in a best picture nominated film and swept the critics awards and Glenn already an overdue in a crazy showy performance in a box office juggernaut were there. Sally was probably 4th.

I think she is one hell of an actress. Her performances, no matter the genre, big or small are just fantastic. I think she was overlooked on supporting Reversal Of Fortune, Dalmatians (even tho was too commercial). Her turns on Stepford and Eligy were the only good things about those films. In my opinion she would had won for Attraction, Natural, Wife and especially Dangerous Liaisons that again, my humble opinion, was a masterclass in acting. I do hope Sunset gets made. There is one thing I always say, at least Glenn has 3 Tony’s but another 3 time Oscar winner doesn’t. She is truly an exceptional actress, always dependable, exquisite and supreme. (Post edit, Albert would had been another winning choice)

Glenn Close lost to Olivia Colman was confusing to me..What was the Academy thinking ? She won CC,GG and SAG..in a normal year she definitely would have won for Oscar..Olivia was great but like you said her Bafta's winning ( duhhh She is British ) I don't think strong enough to upset Close in the Wife...I was really shocked when I watched the telecast that day... I am afraid the Academy only will give Close the honorary Oscar or Lifetime Achievement Award and that certainly will not do her justice considering her incredible talent throughout the years 😭 She deserves Oscar on her own merit

The Oscar should not depend on who won what. It often does but it should be above simple math. And while Glenn won the Globe and SAG plus Critics Choice, she won little else. Colman won the vast majority of critics, including two of the three biggies - LAFCA and NSFC, in addition to BAFTA (the home favouritism is not a real thing in recent years) and a Golden Globe. No disrespect to Glenn, but Olivia is also one of the very best actors working today, so let’s not pretend she is some random winner.

I appreciate the video! I think it's a disservice to Glenn's legacy that there's this underdog narrative around her just because she didn't win a dumb trophy. Yes, the Oscars do have some kind of cultural importance, but we need to grow out of believing in its value. The Oscars are a very silly glamor event pretending to be important. Rather than acting as if Glenn requires their approval, we should reject the very concept of competitive awards for something as subjective as art. That Goop lady has an Oscar too but that hasn't done anything for her legacy. You see? Glenn's fine.
