That is me in the blue jumper next to the wooden hut...he was the greatest English midfielder in the last 45 yrs followed by Gazza ....Hoddle was a genius!!!
From a 'Gooner' I'm impressed..But u were fortunate to have the Irish contingent and one of them was a certain Liam Brady&of course you've also had Denis Berghamp, kind of similar to Hoddle (but played more forward) but he had such sublime skills that even a out&out Spurs fan would stop to watch him!
@@jerryoshea3116 you’ve just got to give credit it where’s its due, and Liam Brady what a player, and if you love football you can’t deny a class player, your only lying to yourself nice one mate 🤝
I'm Italian and I was a boy in 70's and early 80's but, believe me, I loved from since his skill to kick from long range with both feet. Never seen such a talent. Amazing player, a pity he was so underated
The greatest talent of his generation, and criminal how England underused it. Hoddle is second only to Sir Bobby Charlton for having an equally devastating shot with each foot.
Was at Stoke for his 1st goal and also Mansfield away when he equalised to keep us in the hunt for promotion. I wonder how much he'd be worth these days. Eat your heart out Grealish.
Yeah as I recall he was largely kept out of England team by Terry McDermott who was a fantastic player for Liverpool but don't remember him playing that well for England 🤔
@@clivebrown607 Mcdermott had a couple of unbelievable seasons for Liverpool 78/9, 79/80. Hoddle had a fantastic season also in 79/80 think he scored 20 league goals that season. Hoddle should have been a permanent fixture in the side in the England side from 1980
My boyhood idol. Hoddle is the reason I fell in love with football and Spurs. The most gifted, talented and technical footballer in English history. Equally skilled with both feet. The England national team should be have been built around him.
What a genius of a player! As a Spurs fan, l am honoured that this man played such beautiful football for us. Oh, to have him in the current team. True two footed player. The volley against Man Utd is breathtaking!
What a lovely player,he had the lot,2 feet. balance, vision,great passing range,good shot,great stamina and humility.From a Villa fan,my favourite player.
Sunday mornings in NZ in the early 80s often included Brian Moore and Match of the Day, which meant that Tottenham and Glenn Hoddle would be playing their blindingly entertaining and revolutionary soccer. He was my favorite player then and I've been a Tottenham fan ever since. Thanks for the compilation.
Surely the greatest talent that England ever wasted. He should have been the first name down on the England Team. If Clough was England Manager then Hoddle would have won over 100 Caps. As a Spurs Fan he was my hero growing up, just wish he would have been more successful as Tottenham Manager to complete the story.
Walks into any team in the world, ever. Like a hybrid of Zidane, Figo and Rivaldo at their best, but a better passer and dribbler than each. Absolutely criminal that the national side wasn't built around him for 10 years.
I saw that Glenn is now back home recovering from his heart attack. I just had to remind myself of his genius & loyalty to Spurs. I well remember every year that Man Utd were going to ' get their man' ! Not this time !!! The volleys against Shilton & even better one against Utd. The turn & chip against Watford . ( I remember that rare Televised game ! ) & then that devastating run & dummying the keeper .... Greavsie could'nt have done it better !! Get well soon Glenn .
England managers have a lot to answer for.Hoddle was the best and would grace any team today. He showed that football is not all about pace and aggression. He should have played at least 100 games for England. One of the greatest ever, an Englishman with Brazilian feet.
There's a number of quality number 10's that didn't get the England caps / status they deserved. The national teams obsession with sticking with a rigid 4-4-2 for so long meant those quality players never really got the opportunity to play the #10 role for England - in the way other nations would have built a team around them. Hoddle was one of the very best of those. Probably the best. An absolutely great player.
Glen was one of the greats, just look at some of them goals Wow, i am an Aston Villa fan ,but he was my number one player, when i was young i use to ply football, and i was always Glen Hoddle, He was a good England manager as well.
Because on this man , I have been Spurs fan since 1980 till now. There is no better Midfielder than him during those periods but sad thing England team never utilised him.
I'm spanish, born in 1973, and remember I loved this man's way of playing, but din't remember any play in particular. Now I Know where that love came from...
I’m an arsenal support and even have to say criminal that he didn’t get at least 100 caps for England. if you have that unbelievable talent and under used by a England then England didn’t deserve to win anything. Fantastic player and I always admired hoddle even playing for the spuds.
Incredible talent! That turn and chip over the keeper in the box was outstanding! Although a liverpool fan I grew up in the era of hoddle in the 80s. Incredible time.
When I was in my teen, i watched the FA final in1981, like Glen and became Spurs supporter till now 2020. Sadly quiet disappointed with the recent team...just couldn't win trophy.
Am I the only one that actually thought Glenn hoddle was England's very own Michel Platini. What a footballer makes me laugh my socks off when the younger generation rave on about someone like Beckham 🤣🤣🤣he wasnt in the same class as GH
English coaches didn`t really know how to use players like Glenn Hoddle. Alan Hudson and 2 or 3 others were also overlooked. I think the Dutch and certainly the French team of the 80`s may well have appreciated Glenn a lot more, and used a system which would have allowed him to flourish. Still, he got 53 caps, but should have been more. If Dave Sexton had been England manager, he would, I think, have built his team around Hoddle.
Grew up watching this genius and had the pleasure of seeing most of these goals live. 52 caps for England, complete joke. Bit like Scholes later, was shoved out on the left by negative, clueless managers... Robson and Reid could have been the perfect complement for his talent with a little bit of vision. Clough tried to sign him, if that doesn't convince you try the best player ever to the play the game. I was at Ossie Ardiles' testimonial in the mid 80s. Hoddle played alongside Maradonna who came out and said afterwards that England should build their whole team around Hoddle
The volley past Shilton is one of the best goals ever. From Milija Aleksic (thought it was Daines, sorry) boot to back of Shilton’s net without touching the ground - C’MON!!!
everything looked easy, he had grace, athleticism, vision, power in both feet, the greatest passer of a football bar none, should have had 100 + caps, there are real donkeys who played for England and got as many caps as this genius.
In a recent interview Hoddle named his 3 best goals as the one against Nott Forest (at1:06) , the similar one against Man Utd (at 3:03) and the one against Oxford (at 3:53)
everything he did was controled class he knew exactly where the ball was going and had the skill to pull it off, even the flying volley's he looked so graceful, he put power on but that too was under control, pure genius great to watch, How did England not give him 100+ caps and build a team around this unique talent. One of our top 10 players ever. Better than Bryan Robson, when you think Mullery probably got more caps explains Englands failure to win more.
The greatest English footballer that ever lived and I would add only Best, Pele, Maradona and arguably Cruyff better on the world stage - from an Everton fan
West Ham fan of 40 years plus here and I dont mind saying he was a genius. Also, his style seems contemporary and continental to me. Too good for England! Should've been accommodated more.
