Amazing! Glenn is keeping the Mk 3 spirit alive and good on him for doing so, the current 'Purple' were very very disrespectful to Glenn and David at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame I love Gillan and Glover but they need to realise the band carried on after them and created brilliant music that needs to be remembered and respected, Gillan hates it but I say tough! This music is just as good as Mk 2

Gillan is the problem. Both to Hughes, Coverdale and Blackmore. His ego thinks he still is what he was in 1972. And he is NOT! To me Purple would be great with Glenn as singer and Søren on guitar.

ahora q se retire Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes lo reemplazará y volvera Ritchie Blackmore. la banda sera Hughes, Blackmore, Glover, Paice y Airey

I totally agree with it. Saw the video and I feel ashamed watching those guys ignoring Dave and Glenn when appeared on stage. A little sad. For some reason, Ritchie didn't want to be there...

Ben James Dover you sure have a problem with GH! Actually he wrote many of the Mach III songs but did not take credit due to contractual reasons. See the remastered Burn.

It does sound very much like the original Deep Purple Mark II, something you can't say about the Steve Morse Deep Purple Line up and especially not about the Whitesnake Purple album and tour which was just dreadful.But this IS IT, brilliant, thanks a lot Glenn for making us happy one more time .

The best performance at the Festival in 2018. Powerful and melodie the music. Some of the songs should better sing David Coverdale: Burn or Might just take your life .. The drummer and guitarrista perfecto. Why not the main act??
@ronforeman2556
@ronforeman2556 6 лет назад
Well, yes and no. The official Deep Purple has three of the five members of what was Mk. II. But they're not performing material from the Mk. III -- Mk. IV era. And of the members of that band, only Glenn is capable of delivering/singing those songs in their full glory. David Coverdale's "Purple" album and tour paled in comparison. Glenn is a Rock God. Only he and Paul Rodgers have the range and power to take us back to the majesty that was hard rock in the '70s.
@ronforeman2556

Glenn has long since freely acknowledged, and accepted responsibility, that mistakes he made in those heady days when Deep Purple was THE hottest band on the planet (KISS contemporaneous claims notwithstanding) were largely responsible for the group's ultimate demise. I was fortunate to catch Deep Purple live subsequent to the release "Made In Japan." It would be the final tour with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover (for all we could know at the time). Thinking the band I loved was over, I held off buying "Burn" until AFTER I saw the new lineup on the California Jam broadcast in summer '74. Glenn Hughes's performance made me a believer again: The "Burn" album, and that live performance (minus Ritchie's silliness with the exploding amps), re-set the bar by which all whom came after would be judged. The snowstorm that began in the late '70s (when Eric Clapton could have an AM hit with J.J. Cale's "Cocaine") became a veritable white-out blizzard in the '80s. Cocaine was EVERYWHERE back then. Vulnerable larger-than-life but weak-minded rock stars were assured it was it wasn't addictive: And it was FREE. Record labels and concert promoters were shoveling snow and writing it off as "goodwill." Every recording console in every studio came equipped with mirrors for cutting lines. I know: I was there at ground zero, in LA, chasing the proverbial record deal throughout the '80s. Glenn was there, too. Only by the grace of God was Glenn able to live through the self-inflicted Hell to which he descended during that tumultuous decade. Read his book: It was nothing but hopelessness and despair. So many of his peers in the industry didn't survive. How much atonment for past sins must one man make to satisfy fans such as yourself? Glenn got his life and career back on track in the early 90s with NO SUPPORT from his former band mates. Over the last three decades, he has managed to release a staggering number of albums: The catalog he amassed during that period is larger than the output of ALL other Deep Purple alumni COMBINED. And he has achieved that without ANY support, or distribution, in the U.S. (except for the one-off L.A. Blues Authority project that Mike Varney and Shrapnel Records handled). Watching this concert just to confirm your own prejudices, and making snarky, unedifying comments, would seem to be a collosal waste of time. If Glenn's gifts and music have NEVER filled your cup, fine. It's time to move on.

Sail Away was pretty cool except at the lyric “time will show... when, I don’t know” Glenn is playing the wrong freakin notes.... They are tuned down a half-step but regardless, the bass position should be B, A, G (time will show) & then B, A, G again (when, I don’t know). NOT B,A,G then E, D, C.... c’mon mate!!!! And big props to Soren Andersen for a great great job of holding up the Blackmore torch both in performance and the all important TONE!!!! Ritchie AND Morse should take note!
