You hear people say "Those were the days" or "Those were the good times" but we often think that what we play today is far better than the "ancient" music that "old" people listened to. IT'S NOT TRUE! I'm 14 and play the French horn and this music is most likely the sweetest music I may ever hear. Long live jazz, good times, and whatever beat makes you want to get on your feet...
The best part about this kind of music is that there isn't any electronic pitch bending like there is with today's pop music. The closest thing you'll get to pitch bending here, are the mutes in the trombones, and the closest thing you'll get to electronic is the occasional electric guitar, like what showed up in Air Mail Special.

I remember my Dad playing this music throughout my childhood. Glen Miller and Benny Goodman were my fav. We use to kid my Dad it was Cartoon Music at the time since most of the classic cartoons were made during this time. Love all kinds of music. This type of music brings back fond memories. Thanks guys.
Thanks to my dad for turning me on to this music. I'm so lucky to have him around. 90 years old and still going strong. WWII Veteran. I'm gonna play this music at my upcoming 50th bday party and dance with my pops. Love you dad! May you live to 100!
Great to see his legacy lives on even today!! I grew up listening to his music while flying with my Dad in the 60s and still remember the smell of his cherry pipe tabbacco and these tunes !!

Best sound quality on this recording. I agree that music doesn't stand still, but we also need to be able to recognize the music if its under the same name. Rename it if it is unrecognizable.
Seventy years later and it still sounds awesome and fresh. Timeless music from a genius brilliantly played by a band that still bears his name. Thanks for this upload, it's awesome.
An amazing orchestra! These guys are like the re-incarnated Glenn Miller Orch. that Miller himself would of lead back in the 40s. I could listen to these guys day in, day out and go nonstop. Keep it grooving with the real music!
the thing that moves me most about this type of music is that it is what veterans of the second world war were listening to when they were my age; i can't tell you how many memoirs I've read that talk about this kind of music cheering them up at USO shows or just on the radio
Now this is what I call real big band jazz! Have fun, make good music, improv, clown for the crowd, and everyone has fun with the music and the show! Great music, great musicians, it just does not get any better than this!
I go to a school that has one of the top 10 jazz bands in the nation. Being in it is one thing, but then to have Swing echoing in the halls... That's what I love about this school
Fantastisch, dieses Orchester, zumal wenn man dran denkt in welchem Flair man dieses Konzert erleben kann dort in Altenburg. Hierbei handelt es sich um das Landestheater Altenburg, wer schonmal mal dort weiss wie absolut genial der grosse Saal des Theaters aussieht. Und dann noch dieses Orchester dort, sowas ist einmalig!

If you wish to hear this kind of music today...two places in CA are the finest. Of all places Disneyland every saturday night rotates 5 different bands. Top notch. In Burbank, right next to the equestrian Center there is a mexican Rest. and once a week most of the year they play there. The female Sax on right is in that band.
Holy God, they're about to have a concert here in Ceske Budejovice, CZ, in January 2011. I've already bought a ticket. I can't wait to see it and hear it on my own eyes / ears!
i love it! especially the Bari part! Because i play the Bari!.. I'm doing Glenn Miller for a report that i have to do in jazz band. I've been listening to his songs and i think that they are really good, i really love in the mood! its so fun to play on the sax! this is amazing!!! the solos were great! and i enjoyed watching this!
outstanding song, its sad that kids these days dont apprieciate true music, its always "Rap" or "hip hop" they dont understand what "Real" music is. and thats coming from a 15 year old boy
