THIS GROUP IS SO GOOD AT PLAYING THE MUSIC EXACTLY HOW IT WAS PLAYED YEARS AGO. LET'S KEEP THIS MUSIC GOING ON AND ON NO MATTER WHO PLAYS IT. SYLVIA! 4/24/21
I'm 68 years old and heard this when I was a kid... This was Dad and Mom's music as teens. I've loved it then and really love it now. Dad, I wish I was your brother sometimes and not your son... just to have lived at this great time in big band music, and to hear and dance to this kind of music would have been awesome.🎶🎶🎵🎷🎺🥁
I am old enough to have seen the Great Miller Band performing in England during world war two. The band was an inspiration to us all in those dark days. Listening to this brings all the old memories back. Super - Glen Miller and his band are Playing Again. Thanks for the memories.
thks a lot of youtube should give z the film the story a glenn miller and we can see the great importance this music had on the soldiers fighting the terrible war...
My Dad never missed the Glenn Miller story when it was on. He was born in 1918 and loved swing . He served in England, France, the Philippines and post war Japan occupation. June 1942 to Feb 1946 in the US Army.
I was still a little girl when I first heard this music. My dad loved to dance and I was thrilled that he put me on top of his feet moving around our living room. I was thrilled dancing with my father to this music. He influenced me up to my adult life listening to really good music.
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me
The big band music is just so great. Glenn Miller was one of the best! Always enjoy listening to it and when there are bands that play it live again it makes it that much better!
The quality of performance here is beyond my belief. Most of these "follower" bands end up with nothing of the performance sound of their namesake. This group of musicians are just spot on here. Hope others realize this as I do.
In the USA these bands are called "ghost bands. And most are really not very good, except for the Basie band. These guys have nailed it. I'll bet the miller band wasn't this good night after night.
Other people may judge you for your tastes but, in reality, they envy you! Not everyone is sensitive enough to appreciate such masterpieces. Cheers from Italy!
I'm 55 years old and listen this wonderful music since I was a child, thanks my dad and mam. My dad today is 89 years old and enjoy this music RU-vid. My mam Is enjoying since the heaven. Regards
Rodolfo Garcia This is sheer nostalgia.I grew up listening to this kind of music here in South Africa. My grandfather and my dad and old folks in my neighbourhood enjoyed dancing to this music.I am 59 and my dad is 85.I still have Glen Miller and The Big 18 band LPs on vinyl
@@oldsuitman7762 I suspect you haven't yet realised what a great comfort memories are, YET. You'll find they are very comforting to both young and old - they avoid the need for therapy.
This is easily the best of the current Miller bands. They stick very closely to the original recordings, and are technically very good. In fact, they sound great. Well done, guys, all except for that squealing trumpet. I don't think Glenn would have liked that.
Beautiful interpretation of Glen Miller. Congratulations to the wonderful and very professional band. This music brings me a lot of memories of my father. He loved this music. He romanced my mother with this romantic music. Thank you for sharing with us.
How wonderful! I used to dance it with 1 of my uncles who was the star dancing this in the parties of my family and friends, the other women when they were young forbidded him to bring his girlfriend to parties as then all the other girls could not dance with him!!
Greetings from Addis Ababa Ethiopia. I concur with fellow friends who commented about the music already. I tried to read about 150 out of the 1150 comments on this post alone. I am so surprised to see the wealth of personal stories from those comments. Stories of music lovers all across the world, men and women young and old. Memories during the war, memories of grandparents, parents, sisters brothers, memories of a particular event, place, or time countless stories in this single video alone. If there are good journalists, they can write more than 4 pages of newspaper articles from this post alone. God bless you for sharing the music with us.
Eleven or Twelve Years ago I checked off something on my bucket list. The Glenn Miller Orchestra came to New Market Ontario. I had missed them the previous year in Owen Sound because I could find a lady who wanted to dance to this great music. But the following year I went with a beautiful lady and we dance to every song. Thank You Helen
I'M 75 years old and my father loved this Orchestra! We saw THE GLENN MILLER STORY and I have the album since then! BRAVO! BRAVISSIMO! OBRIGADA! 🌹❤😢Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brasil! 💚💛💚💛

THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! That kept a big grin on my 68 year old face...the whole time! My most favorite music is Big Band! Glen Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Chic Webb, Fletcher Hinderson, Kit Orie, Jackie Gleason & the list goes on and on- you could retain the melodies in your head and whistle while you worked. (I imagine that's where Disney got his slogan). The stuff they call music, now a days, has NO melody. It is just noise! Listening to this video, of the New Glen Miller Big Band is like breathing fresh air out in the woods around a branch! God bless! Bill from Tn. 🇺🇸
I also recommend Sound booster US made power speaker JBL FLIP5 BLUETOOTH which can be attached to side of This- Pad. You will be very happy Quality of sound!. This 7x2.5 inch tube shape, “weather proofing portables” and also very “cheaper”
A great orchestra that authentically offers the Glenn Miller Orchestra sound for the 21st century. Another generation will discover the Glenn Miller Orchestra as so many have before. Thank you Thomas Nilsson for your fine work.
I am old enough to have heard this wonderful music when I was a lad. Glenn Miller is still my favorite. Love the guys putting their mutes on their heads. Glenn’s guys did this.
Sunday morning my dad would come home from church. Read the paper & play his big band loud. Me as a teenager alil hungover heard this I loved it. I finally shared his love of his music with him. I have is collectin of his music thank god
I grew up in the 30's listening to all the great swing bands and there were many but Glenn's music stands a notch above them. This band has done a remarkable copy of his style. Brings back many beautiful memories. The old saying, You can never go back is put to rest with these guys. Thank you, George Traganos
@@jamescampoccio1152 He did die in service, but not because the plane was shot down. Historians from his alma mater, the University of Colorado, did 2-year investigation about a decade ago. Miller was scheduled to travel to Paris on Dec. 12 1944 to finalize his orchestra's transfer to the Continent. He was repeatedly delayed by weather and opted to hitch a ride with a poker buddy instead of waiting. What he didn't know was that: > the flight was unauthorized and not cleared for travel > the plane, a tiny UC-64 transport, had a defective fuel system > weather over the Channel was still bad > the plane's pilot wasn't qualified for adverse conditions The UC-64 was seen by coast spotters on the standard SHAEF non-combat flight path, so it's known they weren't in a combat zone and were too far away from the RAF bomb-drop range to have been hit by jettisoned ordnance. The most probable reasons for the crash were either engine failure, pilot error, or a combination of both. 😢😢
@@Poisson4147 Thank you for research and comment. I heard a theory. His low-flying plane was struck over the Channel - by returning RAF - thinking him German?
Today a few hours ago We went to see Glen Miller Orchestra in San Diego Ca. Love his music mom & dad dance his music grew up watching them dancing such a beautiful music.History Americana.
His band definitely lived on, even in 2019 this music is amazing. I would bet none of them ever imagined it would still be moving forward this far into the future.
Glenn Miller Orchestra Biography Alton Glenn Miller (March 1, 1904-presumably December 15, 1944), was an American jazz musician, arranger, composer, and band leader in the swing era. He was one of the best-selling recording artists from 1939 to 1942, leading one of the best known "Big Bands". Miller's signature recordings include: "In the Mood", "Tuxedo Junction", "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "Moonlight Serenade", "Little Brown Jug", and "Pennsylvania 6-5000". He's notable as well for playing numerous times for the U.S. military. While travelling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War II, Miller's plane disappeared in bad weather. His body was never found. The Glenn Miller Orchestra was originally formed in 1937 by Glenn Miller. It's unique, tight and popular sound was produced by arranging for a clarinet and tenor saxophone playing melody, while three other saxophones played the harmony. Miller had already formed one band before this in 1936, but he dissolved it as he considered it too similar to other bands of the era. After the disappearance (and presumed death) of Miller in 1944, the band was reconstituted under the direction of Tex Beneke, its lead tenor saxophonist, singer, and one of Miller's longtime close friends. A few years later, the Miller estate, having parted ways with Beneke, hired Ray McKinley, principal drummer in Miller's Army Air Force band, to organize a new "ghost band" in 1956. The group went on, playing as a tribute to Miller's memory.
This music sends me to Paradise and alleviates my pains when thinking I will be near blind because of open eye glaucoma which seems to be incurable at the moment. .
Pennsylvania 6-5000 cover for the unforgettable Glenn Miller's orchestra , was outstanding. Even if you have two left feet you are compelled to get up & dance
From Wikipedia: "The Hotel Pennsylvania was a hotel at 401 Seventh Avenue (15 Penn Plaza) in Manhattan, across the street from Pennsylvania Station and Madison Square Garden in New York City. Once the largest hotel in the world, it was also the fourth largest in New York City when it closed permanently on April 1, 2020.[1] It is currently being demolished and will be replaced by 15 Penn Plaza, a 68-story tower."
I have always thought this as 'happy times' music. It wasn't but the music would help mellow people out in a big way during the war. I think we need more of this today - feed the emotional bank account with positivity!
What an incredible stereophonic challenge rendering rendition! Great sound EVERYWHERE! Bravo and merci beaucoup from Paris France in february 2020, an incredible outstanding MASTERPIECE! Bravo!
I played trombone in my high school dance band (late 50's) and really enjoying the big band standards, especially Glen Miller. Great to still hear today's band playing this classic music.
Our grandparents thought the same about Big Band music. Things are different today! the young will probably not say the same about music you like. Tolerance is learned! Good music will survive and tastes will change.
Glenn Miller... EXCEPCIONAL... Bendiciones ❤!!!
It'll never be known 100%, but researchers at the University of Colorado found that the UC-64 carrying Maj. Miller had a history of fuel-system problems that could easily have caused it to freeze up in the cold air over the Channel. To make things worse, the pilot wasn’t instrument-qualified which leaves open the possibility that he lost "situational awareness" as bad weather closed in. Either one - or a combination of both - would have led to a fatal crash.
@@Poisson4147 Another theory is that a returning bomber that hadn't dropped all of its payload emptied its unused ordnance over the English channel (standard procedure - you didn't want to land with unexploded bombs aboard) and one of them hit GM's plane. The bomb wouldn't have to explode to down his plane. Just the impact would have caused catastrophic damage. I recall reading something about a gunner on a bomber seeing a plane below them on that day. Just a theory, though. Barring the invention of time travel, we'll never know what really happened. I'm just amazed at how much wonderful music he packed into such a short career.
@Tannhauser Thanks much for the reply. To answer your (implied) question I’m pretty familiar with that theory. It first gained a lot of attention in the mid-1980s when Fred Shaw, a former RAF airman, remembered a logbook where he’d recorded seeing a “kite” (slang for any small plane) being hit by jettisoned bombs. It happened on Dec. 15, 1944 so the immediate and reasonable conclusion was that he’d seen the Norseman carrying Miller, Baessell, and Morgan. However the log report raised almost as many questions as it seemed to answer. Among others, Miller was easily as popular in the UK as he was in the States so why hadn’t Shaw raised a flag at the time or at least shortly afterward? Second, the bombers were flying above the clouds while the “kite” was near the water, making a precise identification difficult. Third, there was a discrepancy between the time and place Shaw recorded for his sighting versus the plane’s expected flight path. Despite those open issues, for decades the dropped-bomb hypothesis stayed pretty much the only theory that got past Occam’s Razor. That all changed around 2014 when the U of C investigators turned up a coast spotter’s report that positively identified a Norseman flying low towards the Channel at a time and place that were both consistent with the standard route F/O Morgan would be expected to take from Twinwood to Villacoublay. There was only one other Norseman in the air that afternoon and it was far away from the southeast region, meaning the spotter had positively ID’ed the doomed craft. In addition the coordinates made it impossible for the plane to have been anywhere near the bomb-drop zone at the time Shaw saw his “kite”. The sighting essentially ended speculation over the plane’s fate except for the immediate cause. The Norseman in question was known to have had a number of fuel-system glitches that were awaiting permanent repairs, bad weather was closing in, and the pilot wasn’t qualified for instrument-only travel. Regardless of which caused the craft to go down the accident was almost certainly not survivable. The Norseman was a rugged plane so long as you were over land. Its fixed landing gear often turned ditchings into catastrophes, even on a small lake let alone the Channel.
@@Poisson4147 i've heard both theories and i guess we'll never know for sure. it was before i was born but even as a kid i loved glenn's music and all the music from that era. i think good music always stands the test of time.
@@Poisson4147 it's such a sad story when you think about the anticipation of all the people and military personnel awaiting to see glenn and the band and the poor guy and the pilot just disappear and that was that. i always think of that when i hear his music.
The best
It's a matter of environmental culture personal sensitivity and human aesthetics, this generation no longer exists. Current social group is ignorant. This is how we brought up the community. Re: ****Rat 28 How did we go from this beautiful music to music of today?
I have heard and seen several Glen Miller bands this is one of the best all around. They just are just great to listen to I especially enjoyed the Sax section
