My Father played with Mal Hallett in the 1930,s and Glenn Miller was his lead. I am now 66 and tho I grew up in Woodstock age this Big Band image is all me. Spot on Glenn Miller.
Glen Miller was the pop music star of his age and his music has been played and enjoyed over 65 years. I wonder how much of the pop charts will be played, live by bands, in 50 years from now? I genuinely feel sorry for the kids who will have to put up with the quality of the tripe in the charts these days and have to tell their kids that was the music they listened to.

I want this played at the end of my funeral ..... plenty of Swing Music. If my son allows Celine Dion or Witney Houston to be played I will haunt him!!!! He's been warned. Swing, Andrews Sisters even Big Bottomed Girls, then down the pub for a few pints of Spifire:)
This, dear ones, is MUSIC, w/a capital "M!" So wish it were pushed, featured and played more, however. Many of the musicians are young, which shows there may be hope! How gives a fig if the band is from Holland or Finland or wherever -- it's OURS in the good ole' U S of A. Best we remember our heritage and history, guys. When our STL "BLUES" skate on the ice, St. Louie Blues is played -- still gives me a thrill!!
The delightful young lady with the Sax solo -- what a treat! Wonder what Glenn would say? Delighted I'm sure! Sadly--IMHO, the drummer lacks the enthusiasm of the other band members. But love the sound, none-the-less!!
learnt american patrol today, and in the mood a few wks ago, im only startin out playin sax but i LOVE it and i love this timeless music... and i'm 17! Long live Glenn :-)
oh man, those must have been the great days... music was relaxing, not causing pain in your ears, drummers just drummed and didn't slam their sticks at their drums, everybody was so chill about the music... why couldn't I be born earlier?
LETS GO BLUE! I hope all NHL Teams understand when this is played they are playing on of the most storied franchises in NHL History and with the most playoff game.
There are actually at least three offical Glenn Miller Orchestra's. One in the USA, one in Germany (this one) and one in the UK led by Ray McVay. I have seen the UK orchestra three times and they are brilliant. This music is real music unlike a lot of the rubbish we from todays so called music stars
Impressive performance! This is my favorite number from Glenn Miller's repertoire and you played it perfectly! Hats off! Considering that Glenn could hire the best musicians in the business at the time, you should be proud!
Well, in WW2 the industry's best musicians where not hired, but drafted. They joined Miller's Army Air Force Band because the chances to survive the war were much higher there than elsewhere in the military.
Now this band is very good! You know, it's kind of hard to compare these later recreations of Mr. Miller's famous recordings because as a collect of big band music for 40 years now, one thing I've noticed--and I don't hear it mentioned often, is the original recordings seemed to have more "punch" (if not fidelity!) as they were recorded in mono. In stereo, the instruments are heard more clearly but they don't always have that inexplicable "oomph" or pulse the mono recordings had. You know? Thanks for sharing this great performance!

@km426: You're right. This vid is from the "European" Glenn Miller Orchestra. They play in lisence from the Glenn Miller foundation in the US. There are 3 or 4 orchestras wolrdwide which are allowed to have the name "Original Glenn Miller Orchestra" as trademark
@guitboxchicken Glenn millers band has been around since the late 1930s. After he vanished in 1943/44 WWII from England flying to France, a mysterious cover up by the military..no surprise here! Millers wife kept the band going and that is why they sound just as good as they did back then. Watch the Glenn miller story, and the Benny Goodman story, both are awesome.
In the 1950-60s someone did it Glenn Miller bio pic ,they could play the notes perfectly, they didn't have the right bounce or swing or something,had to ask some of the old retired guys, how did you do this, they found the right sound

The problem is that they are playing it too fast--the tempo is way too quick. It should be a lot slower with huge rolling snares, rim shots, bass drum/cymbal blasts--it should be played with forceful reverence.
I'd like to agree with you in a sense, good sir. However let's keep in mind it IS* a March, so Marches tend to be in a bit of a quicker pace. I will respect that it IS a song with the Blues* title in it. But then again, we all have different tastes and opinions.
