seems like a really big improvement fromo last version! add me to the list of people interested in a comparison with the novablast 2 to understand similarities and differences!
Thanks for the review. You and I have very similar race times and are about the same age. How does this shoe feel at steady/uptempo paces (7-8 min/mile)?
I ran this years NYC Marathon with my Glide Ride 3. My feet were in great shape throughtout the entire race..No soreness after the marathon. They performed great, due to the extreme humidity I took it slow and steady..These shoes were great..
Picked up a pair at my local Asics store this week. Not sure if they were supposed to be selling them yet, but I'm really liking it so far. They feel significantly lighter than the Glideride 2 and softer than the original Gliderides (though maybe I'm forgetting what those were like when new - they're fairly stiff now after 500 miles in them).
I think they are only slightly lighter than the GlideRide 2. Softer yes .Less stiff? A little in the toebox, but think you don't understand the purpose of this shoe. It's supposed to be stiffer to maximize the ride.
Thanks Ko! I'm so excited about this. Just started on my 5th pair of GR 1 as my local Glideride advocate... V2 never interested me. V3 looks superb. Can't wait.
FF Blast (and the + variant) is like a new upgraded more powerfull engine in your old car. Got two Asics with FF Blast and running with any other shoe with different foams just feels wacky (without strecthcing to much higer priced shoes). 👍
"Lace the fuck up samurai, we have a marathon to run." is something that I cannot remove from my head ever since I started watching you for shoes or running-related stuff.
Having trouble to adapt to glideride 2. Then I change its insole with yonex power cushion plus. It becomes my fav running shoes for daily runs. Gonna grab glideride 3 in near future
Hmmm.... Would you buy this or gel nimbus 24? Seems that ASICS haves fallen into their old trap of making loads of daily cruisers but they all appear a little too over manufactured. Comfortable yes, best daily running shoes... No. I have the Novablast 2, and whilst a spongy cruiser, can't hold a candle to the Hoka Mach 4. Good on you getting the kids running ☺️👌🏾👍🏾
Good review Asics has so many models I never tried before and this is one of them.I do like the new Asics 24,The Magic Speed and some older throw back Asics Tarthers. But Some of your other Asics you reviewed has me wanting to try out the Asics Meta Speed Sky for a fall Half or full Marathon..As a daily trainer to rotate the Cumulus 24 is a nice shoe .I wonder what ever happened to their 33 series they had about 6 or 7 years ago I think it was? So many changes and newer models always coming out .
I wondered the same thing. I finally ran in both today and found the G3 to hug my foot more and gently glide it/rock it forward more for a cruise control pace, felt very stable also. Plenty of cushion and bounce. Nb2 in some ways has a more bouncy fun feel but in tight corners I'd be afraid of rolling my ankle. It's a different sensation.. nb2 is more versatile.. can use it as a walking shoe if you wanted, so cushiony. G3 is good for long distance cruise control.. def more step in comfort/hugging ur feet for the G3. I wore size 8.5 G3, size 8 on nb2 since it runs a little long.. basically for long runs or even short runs I'm going for G3 personally. But I can't wait to try nb3, sounds like even more bounce.
Hi Kofuzi. I’m looking for a shoe to train in and ultimately run the Chicago marathon this year and I wondered if you would recommend this one. I’ve been doing all my long runs up to now in my triumph 19’s but they have a lot of miles on them and I think I should buy something new now so they’re well worn in and I’m used to them by the time the marathon comes around ? Many thanks Ian 🇬🇧
Mine GR2 took a while to break-in... But I did like the GR1 a lot. However, I agree with you that the NB2 seems a better option at any time of the week.
I bought glideride 1 for 70% off. The first version looks armoured compare to version 3. My first run with it, it felt like a robot shoe, lol... but I really love after few miles.
Sir Good day. I've been running on this mostly and was thinking about buying a shoe with a carbon plate on races. I also wanted to try the NB3 and have it added into the rotation. What would be the best racing shoe to pair with these bad boys?
Which sjoe(s) would you recommend for a neutral runner doing ultra marathons and for marathon running in general.Thank you in advance and keep up the excellent work 🙌🏻
Would you put these in the same category as the Nike react infinity run 3? If so, which shoe would you say has the most squish to it? I've ran in the infinity 3 and it is incredibly squishy.
A1. one is a recovery run / easy day shoe with a lot of stability type features (even though it is still a neutral shoe). the other is a daily trainer that is a lot bouncier and can handle speeds a bit better A2. novablast 3
I'm getting to the point where my current go to, NB More 3, is dying. I'm after something comfortable to chug along on longer, for me, distance runs that will be heavy enough to ensure I'm going slowly. Would these be in that sort of territory?
@@belisarius2999 320, from memory. I've moved to the Bondi 8 and they're firmer initially and gave a couple of blisters on my right little toe. Easing in, now and encouraging slower running
Very interesting review, I have the Glideride 2 but the rocker is so extreme that I can't run in them.. Definitely not walk because you feel like you are falling forward.. Terrible shoe the Glideride 2. I am glad to see that they made the Glideride 3 less extreme and the fact that you even recommended it for walking means it is not rigid like before.
Nice review. I was a little worried they wouldn't work for mid to forefoot runners but seems like they worked decent for you. What's the fit on these like vs the Novablast 2? I had the Novablast 1 and the 2 has a lot less room vertically in the toebox that makes them uncomfortable to me. The Glideride is interesting but if it has a shallow toebox I'll probably have to skip them.
i had knee surgery two years ago and bought these to start running again...my knee doesnt like it. This is not the shoe if you have knee issues....you have been warned. I am not sure what it is, its either its too cushony in the forefoor or the bounce back is too muc...but my knee was pretty sore after using it. Relegated it to a walking shoe.
@@kofuzi I am still looking for the right shoe. I am thinking of trying a zero drop shoe. So far I have tried the following Pegasus 37 (too high drop), Brooks Ghost 14 (too high drop), Vomero 11 (forefoot pain in balls of feet) and Glideride 3 (it seems to affect my gate and the forefoot has a bit too much cushion). My knee is very sensitive since acl surgery so i am very sensitive to differences between running shoes.
Skipped the first two versions after reading reviews that made it seem like the geometry of the shoe was most beneficial for heel strikers. Would you say this is the case for this version as well?
Similar concepts. But the Shift uses a lot of plastic pieces and stiff elements in the midsole to control foot movement. And the foam feels a bit firm for me. The foam in the Glideride is very cushioned and pleasant
I will have to disagree. I have run in a lot of Asics shoes, and thus by far is the worst of all of them. It is heavy, clunky, completely rigid and inflexible, with an unnatural rocker that forces me to run in an awkward manner against my natural form. Being so heavy you are never able to pick any speed, at best I was able to move at a steady pace, that too with some effort. It is not a shoe that I will pick up for any sort of running , and worst it can’t be even salvaged as a walking shoe with that monster rocker :( On the contrary, Asics Evoride is a total gem of a shoe, and I have used it consistently over the last many years, have run half marathons in it, and I believe one can do a full marathon in it as well. There is a reason Glideride flies below the radar, as it is a bad shoe.
Looks like a really interesting shoe. How soft is this compared to the Novablast 2? Although I enjoyed running in that shoe, for some reason it didn't agree with me and I would always feel extremely beat up the next day, so the Novablast 2 wasn't long in my rotation. Looking forward to the long-term review of the Glideride 3.
@@shannonsides6017 that makes three of us! I'm confused by these two Asics shoes, about the same weight, drop, upper... yet supposedly quite different...
I can make that comparison video, although to give a preview, I think the most noticeable differences will be the rigid forefoot rocker of the Glideride and the speed of the Novablast
Thanks. Looking forward to these after running in the GlideRide 2. One thing different is the toebox bends much more in this iteration. Also, if you are going to have some sort of relationship with Asics, please start to get much better at the reviews. You are lacking here. Comparisons from past models are important. If you think Nike shoe users can be tough, Asics's users will be far worse. This is a good newby Asics review without many details.
It seems like this shoe has a lot of similar characteristics with the NB Fresh Foam More; heavy cushion, low drop, significant rocker. Would you use these for similar runs? Do you prefer one?
@@kerry_runs They do seem more versatile. I was thinking about GR3 as a nice heavily cushioned shoe to switch off with the Novablast. As an old guy, I like to alternate between cushioned and cushioned. :)
I havne't tried the Noosa tri 14 yet, but I anticipate that the glideride will be a more cushioned, more relaxed shoe, suitable for easier paces and longer runs
I sense the DNA or familial resemblance in the shaping of the shoes and some of the footstrike characteristics, but the two are similar (or dissimilar) like a concept car versus a production vehicle. the metaride was interesting but not a shoe that I think I recommended for anyone (especially at the original $250 price). the glideride 3 is a shoe that is squishy yet stable and great for recovery runs, easy days, and long runs.
@@kofuzi thanks. You saved me some cash and headache. I was really tempted to grab a pair of Metarides at a discount but I will stick to the Glideride 2s that I just purchased. Will try the 3s when the price comes down. Just getting back into running and you make my favorite reviews! Helped me with buying some/too many shoes. Got NB FF More 3, Brooks glycerin 19, asics novablast 2, noosa tri 14, glideride 2, and Saucony endorphin speed 2. I think I am obessed.
I’m assuming you are excluding carbon plated shoes (even though I don’t think that’s strictly necessary), so I will suggest Endorphin Speed 2, Rincon, Mach 4 (or 5 just came out), Novablast 2, Hyperion Tempo, 880v12
In the meantime, if you have a specific question, I will be happy to respond (please start a new comment thread, as it is easier for me to track comments that require responding to)
