I love the Zeke references when they pop up. There's another scene where Linka straight up calls Zeke her father and basically says he's a moron. But my boy Rex was so infatuated that he really tried to hold himself back from agreeing with her.
Which he has become after all he went through, I mean, first he got stabbed in the back, then he had to fought a whole Aegis War almost on his own and THEN he had to make THREE BABIES!!!
@@Bylethisop When Vandham was killed, Rex was just being reckless in the heat of the moment, letting his emotion take control and not thinking. Glimmer, on the other hand, went out of her way to tell the Consul where the camp was, knowing full well he'd kill everyone there. This wasn't at all necessary if she just wanted a ride to a nearby colony. So there is absolutely no reason to feel sorry for her.
@@pursuedcomic3 and that, even before he learns that this is indeed HIS Glimmer, HIS baby girl, that her talking about Homecoming, effectively permadeath, like it's such a positive thing, and snuff everything else, bringing back bad flashbacks about him learning that her mother and Mythra also wanted the same thing: to die like it's a good thing for themselves and everyone else.
So we’ve got Mio, Rex and Nia’s daughter, who got just about everything from her mom. Glimmer, Rex and Pyra’s daughter, who got her mom’s looks, her aunt’s personality, and her dad’s determination. What the spark is Rex and Mythra’s kid gonna be like??
@Cho Tengen Toppa Nep Nep shulk and rex aren't in a game together unless you count xenoblade 2 dlc so that isn't possible lol I mean like shulk and rex having a nice talk together with their kids explaining things specifically
6:16 Assuming glimmer is the same height as pyra/mythra, rex was initially standing at around glimmer's nose level in XC2. He was a lot shorter than pyra, but now.... Jesus
@@ShogunPlasmaand we still don't even know who mythra's kid is And to those of you about to say Dirk, nope nuh uh i would rather them not reveal mythra's kid rather than dirk being her kid
@@QP_lite I mean i thought that Georgie in the DLC had somewhat of a similar face with the hairs and eyes but not much not even a core crystal + Rex would have recognized her. But hey at least she is a good cook which would be a great joke if she really was their daughter and at least it's better than Dirk
@@ShogunPlasma there core crystals became the fists, sword of origin, logos' crystal is inside N sword of the end it's reveal in the ending when N actually helps Matthew and the others against Alpha/Alvis
I think they did the parent-child relationships as well as they could without explicitly saying it, just like base game 3. Another underrated relationship is the pairing between Glimmer and technically-her-aunt A, who have a pretty cool quest and bonding moment over their shared love of music.
People point out that him Dual Wielding is a reference to Morag, which I definitely see, but I think a lot of people forget that he first started Dual Wielding officially when he inherited Roc from Vandham.
@@TheWaverunnersTo be fair, if you compare the movements of FR Rex's wielding style with Morag and Vandham, it definitely looks a lot more like Morag's style
1:31 Ngl, that was pretty cold coming from Rex. It’s because he would always win with the power of friendship, and when he said “Your friends are gone”, he probably couldn’t get over the fact that HIS friends were gone.
I love how the camera doesn't pan towards her core crystal in the first scene, as if Rex recognises her that keenly. Makes it way more obvious that he's her father.
9:11 no matter how many times I see this scene…it always brings tears to my eyes. Xenoblade 2 was my introduction to the series, so I have an extra soft spot for Alrest and it’s people
@@kiurou7 I don't know, maybe because it wasn't the best time or maybe if both Rex and Shulk were thinking about telling them, but when everything calms down.
@@ezioauditore534 oh now i get it, but then, we glimmer doesn't know in the first place? I got so confused because we also have no info on what happened to pyra and mythra
Fergus O' Donnell did a fantastic job with Rex But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to hear what Al Weaver could've done with XC3's highly improved voice direction
@@Nachtflut Rex's voice in XC2 already made him sound much older than he was. A little added rasp would've sufficed, but I like what O' Donnell brought to the table
That can’t be why. If that were the reason, he wouldn’t have come back to voice Rex in smash. The most likely reason is that Al Weaver just didn’t have the voice Monolith wanted for adult Rex, so they got Fergus O’ Donnell to voice a more experienced and gruff Rex. It helps they both have Manchester accents. I miss Al Weaver too, and it sucks knowing Rex was the only returning character to have been recast. And yeah I think with 3’s stronger voice direction, Al could’ve pulled off a proper adult Rex. but oh well. At least Hiro Shimono is still JP Rex.
Nobody complains about Glimmer, Linka, and Panacea not having the same voice actors as Pyra, Pandoria, and Sharla despite sharing them in Japanese. This shilling for Weaver is getting ridiculous.
Glimmer is really Rex's daughter... She has the same Aegis Cores Crystal as Pyra, even though she has the same hair as the picture of Rex and his friends, where we see Pyra, Mythra, and Nia holding the baby. As you can see, the baby's hair looks like Glimmer's hair which is the same color.
I know it's cheap, but i would have liked a "where are they now?" type of ending slides for all the characters, given that the DLC goes beyond the ending of the main game, and not only seperates the worlds into 1 and 2 again, but brings them together once more into a new combined world. I would have melted if i could see Shulk embrace Fiora and Nikol, while Rex would be piled on by all three wives AND kids! But for some reason, we don't get to see what that new world actually means for the characters, as someone like Mio would have multiple "versions" from the worlds of both 2 and 3, but with no indication of which one exists now, or if they now just work like sort of identical twins from different worlds. It kinda makes me think that we are getting a new series based in this new world, and we have to wait an entire game before getting definite closure on where the characters ended up after the events of all three games...
@@darthraven118 See....thats the problem. Theres a chance the fourth entry is something completely different. Like it doesn't take place in that new world with any remnants of past characters. I know three is the last part of the Klaus saga but I think that's the most we'll ever get.
@@ARAnimethere is nothing stopping them from making a game in the new merged world. just because it's the end of one story, doesn't mean a new story can't begin
@@dakotadoyle7573 They definitely could. It was just an example since a new saga is starting so there’s a chance that it doesn’t take place in that world. But if it does then I wouldn’t be surprised if xenosaga also crosses with it.
I feel like people who wanted to see the characters from XC3 again are missing the point. The whole theme of XC3 is moving on into the future, even if you don't know what that future will be like. We as players have to move on from the story of the cast of XC3, because they've moved on into the future, and just like to us, their future is unknown, but thats okay.
You could see the pain in Rexs eyes when he heard his daughter wanted to die and go home.... no father wants to hear that come from their child. Shes just so damn stubborn like her mom mannnn. But jesus this dlc made me cry like a damn baby. Probably worse than the ending of the base game ngl.
Rex talking so fondly about what's left of... I'm guessing the cliffs of Morytha really shows that after all these years, he's still a salvager at heart. Admiring all the old stuff and the history of it all. Monolithsoft did such a good job making Rex and Shulk feel the same as they did but just more mature.
I love how the game never directly says glimmer is Rex’s daughter because the writers trusted the audience to immediately know, yeah there are moments when their alluding to it in a not at all subtle manner but they never directly say it.
Glimmer may've gotten her looks from Rex and Pyra. But she got her attitude from Mythra and Nia. That makes 2 of Rex's kids we've seen. I wonder if we'll ever see the kid he had with Mythra?
I'm still sad that we never got to see Shulk and Rex actually call their children their son/daughter. I know Glim and Nic don't really understand the concept of parents so they probably wouldn't know what they are saying... but man it was such a tease for them to keep hinting it without giving the payoff of outright saying it.
This doesn't explain what happened to Shulk's friends and his Beloved Wife, Fiora, Rex's friends and his 2 Beloved Wives, Pyra and Mythra. I REALLY wanted to know!
@@mrbubbles6468 Wait, I thought it was implied Lucky Seven houses the souls of Shulk's party members from XC1, rather than being to do with Pyra/Mythra? I mean, Seven refers to the number of party members Shulk had and the sword was forged by Melia, makes sense it has more to do with XC1 than XC2.
I really felt bad for Glimmer in the first scene. Everyone is pretty much telling her "Hey I know you're passionate about your life but just stfu lol L bozo" Coulda been more understanding lmao
Rex is cut to pieces holy crap. They probably had to ship him to the game in 2 separate boxes he's that cut. I have no idea what's going on, all I know is Rex is jacked, Shulk went full Sephiroth with that head of hair, and Rex's daughter(?) looks exactly like Pyra/Mythra. I only know about these characters because of Smash Ultimate.
so i havent played to game. but what i get is that shulk did not tell his kid that he is his father. and im convinced that rex thinks that he (rex) told glimmer that he is her father. (she does not know he is her father)
I get the impression though that Shulk is probably the type of parent though who'd be a little too hands off, since he can be distant even to the people he's closest with.
Besides the legit stupid act of trying to get back to her Colony and endanger them all in the process, and the commonly stated reason of bringing back bad memories of his indirectly getting Vandham killed, there's another layer to consider, and someone pointed it out in another video: All this talk of Glimmer looking forward so much to Homecoming, where you're basically cut off from the cycle and IIRC are effectively permanently dead (I don't recall if that includes the original soul within Origin), and talking about like it's a good thing, the best thing. Of course that would strike a deeper nerve in Rex. It brings back flashbacks to her mother and her half-mum talking about wanting to die like it's a good thing, in this case, to protect the world from their power. The turmoil he faced when Pyra surrendered to Malos to save them, and then having to pour his heart out for them to tell them to keep on living. So why wouldn't he get pissed at someone, who he doesn't even know yet is his daughter with Pyra, talk about dying so positively? Also, must really suck for Rex and Shulk that their kids don't remember them coz they've been forced into the cycle of the endless now.
The homecoming that removes you from the cycle hadn't been estabmished yet. At that time, the homecoming ceremony involved getting executed by a Consul, hence why Glimmer says she was going to "offer up her life"
Mio acts like Pyra, but no one's gonna doubt her heritage because cat ears 😂😂😂 But sure enough, Pyra's kid acting like Mythra and everyone starts to wonder...
6:30 ...i still can't help but wonder why rex doesn't ask to borrow the core crystal on glimmer's chest. Like there's nothing with asking to see your wives again. He's just asking for help. I mean if malos' aegis rules bullshit was true she can literally rebuild herself from just her core if rex had all their memories
I dont think thats how it works. That's neither pyras or mythras core crystal. It's glimmers. Like it'd be weird for rex to summon nia from mios crystal wouldn't it?
@@tsyumamatsuthehavenofguard32 the point i was making is that the core crystal is probably an inherited trait. Like how Mio inherited Nia's crystal and how Linka inherited Pandorias. So Rex probably can't summon Pyra or Mythra from Glimmers crystal.
