In this video, Mr. Cellini reviews the entire CRQ section from the August 2023 Regents Exam in Global History and Geography.
The CRQ section of the Regents always asks the same questions. Only the documents change on each test. It's helpful to know what to expect! See below for tips on answering the types of questions found on the CRQ section.
Historical Circumstances:
Identify an event that happened PRIOR to the history shown in the document and then make a connection to the developments found in the document. [2-3 sentences total]
Geographic Circumstances:
Discuss the geographic development found in the document and how it played a role in the history in the part of the world mentioned in the document. [2-3 sentences total]
Point of View:
Using the document, identify how the author feels about the topic mentioned in the question. Then, paraphrase a piece of evidence found in the source to back up your claim. [2 sentences total]
Purpose:
Why did the author write the document? Identify what you believe to be the author's purpose, then back it up with paraphrased evidence from the source. [2 sentences total]
Intended Audience:
Identify who the author is speaking to, or to whom the author is writing. Then, try to explain how that might affect what is in the source. Remember, author's always want to keep the interest of the audience and they want to keep the information relevant. This is probably the hardest of the CRQ questions. [2 sentences total]
Cause and Effect:
Identify the main idea in document one and state that it led to the main idea in document two. Then, explain the connection. [2-3 sentences total]
Turning Point:
Identify an important historical event that happened between the documents. Then, using information from each of the documents, explain how history changed as a result. [3-4 sentences total]
Similarity/Difference:
Identify HOW the documents are similar OR different [NOT BOTH!]. Then, provide an example from each document to show how the documents are similar or different. [3-4 sentences total]
