In this video, Mr. Cellini reviews the second CRQ section from the August 2022 Regents Exam in Global History and Geography.
The first document is a map that reflects the European "Scramble for Africa" that takes place in the late 19th century. The accompanying question requires students to explain the geographic context of the developments shown on this map.
The second document is an excerpt from a speech from Kwame Nkrumah given on March 6, 1957 in the former colony of Gold Coat. The speech was given at a ceremony when the British flag was lowered and the flag of the new state of Ghana was raised. The accompanying question is very difficult, since students are asked to explain how the audience affects what Kwame Nkrumah includes in his speech. Questions that ask the test-taker to source for audience are rare and students tend to have a difficult time structuring an effective response.
The third question in this CRQ set has the students identify a turning point in history that took place between the documents. It is then required that the student explains how this event was a turning point using evidence from both documents. This is another question that does not come up often on the Regents.

For todays regents in the CRQ that was about turning point, could I have chosen WW2? I chose that caused I remembered this video and the correlation of European colonialism and then their liberation, but the second document in todays regents was I think more about the nationalism Africans starting feeling (the example being the song) in order to eventually become independent, so I’m not sure if what I chose was correct?
