Glock 23 Gen 4 all the way. It was my first gun I bought just maybe a month ago for home defense and recreational shooting. Best money I ever spent, 10/10.
@DarkHorsePSH , I shoot with my left eye, yes, because I get a clearer sight picture. I switched over a few years go. Shooting low-left is fairly common for right handers and usually has nothing to do with how you are using your sights; it's usually related to a bit of trigger jerk or flinch. Try to sand bag rest your gun, as well as get some other people to shoot it. It's very rare for the sights to be off measurably on any new defensive pistols.
Hey man, if you slow that video down I believe you'll see a bullet streaking to the target. It looks like you're shooting lead as caught a glimpse of the tell-tale silver streak heading for the steel gong. Great video once again!
@binky987 , Yes, any difference is minor. I'm would not trade any of my other Glocks just to get a Gen 4 gun, no would I reject one because it's a Gen 4 gun. I've not tried the 9mm Gen 4s yet, though.
@42cujo , i really was not aware of that, except that I've noticed the trigger is a bit stiffer, which I really like because it still has a clean break.
@jaxboxer , On any given day, I might shoot anything better or worse, even a Hi-Point. :-) The SR9c was easy to shoot well. I'll see if I can shoot it as well in the Chapter 2 video with it.
@wogahboy, I spend hours every day answering questions, especially for those who can read. As it says on my profile, you have to send questions as a message if you want an answer. There's a reply button there. If it's clear, concise, and something appropriate for me to answer (rather than Google), you'll often get an answer. It just depends on how many hundred more there are in line.
@Jackomason , Don't know about those videos. I have almost 25 years of experience holstering and unholstering Glocks with no problems, so it doesn't really matter what they've found, other than maybe finding it interesting. :-)
Great opening! It always amazes me how much video you can lay down without stopping the camera, no hang-ups or long pauses. You are to shooting videos, what George Carlin was to comedy.
@flymistaslick, Not really; it would be difficult for me to play a computer game when I have so many real toys and a cool place to shoot them. I can see how they might be fun, though.
@RES1ST0R , If I do, then so does almost everybody else in Tennessee and the South; there are Civil War battlefields everywhere. The media has driven everybody needlessly crazy about lead. :-)
@93hostang , I might do it, but I cut this one up so much trying to get the leather out of the way, I might wait until I get another on sometime. I want to wear it over Christmas holidays to see how I like it.
@wcropp1, I like to have conversations with myself, too. That way I always make sense! :-) I bought a M&P 40c that I was going to review this weekend, but the weather just didn't allow for it.
Getting a glock 23 gen 4 for my first gun this weekend! So happy i stumbled upon hickok45s videos. Starting to love his channel and went back and watched this! So glad my first gun is hickok approved!
@suckaniggasdick , Yuk, I hate to do that, although I did have a Glock back during the period when they were finishing them in that horrible slick "Teflon" that I actually DID try that. I cut neat little strips of grip tape and stuck it in the serrations. There's something really distasteful to me about doing that, though Thankfully, Glock has gotten away from that thick, slick finish.
I've been a big fan of your videos, I just bought my first Glock (a 23 Gen 4) 5 days ago, I've put 100 rounds through it so far and like it. I purchased this for all around use, and also as a CCW. I have a preference for 9mm, but decided to try something different this time and have no regrets. Thanks again.
I have had my Gen4 Glock 23 for a month now and shot 150 rounds through it. Truth be told the round is a little snappy, but not nearly as snappy as the 45 or 10mm i have been used to shooting. Despite the snappiness it's remarkably controllable and fun to shoot! Suffice it to say it's become my new every day carry gun and the gun i plan to take to training courses.
Got one as well and another great thing about Glocks 40's is that you can just drop in a oem 9mm barrel and buy some 9mm mags and bam you got Glock 19 or Buy a .357 barrel and use the existing .40 mags as their the same size. You can also for around a couple hundred bucks buy a .22 conversion kit. So in other words with the parts you can have 4 guns in one :). I have the same setups for my Sig's as well. I own a p226 and 228 and both are .40 but use either 9mm or .22 for practice etc.
Just wanted to say thanks for all your videos and comparisons on Glocks, i bought my first Brand New Glock 23 gen 4 yesterday and done shot 200 rounds through it and i love it! Im very happy with my purchase,if not for these videos i would have went with something else thanks!
nice video, when you were doing the comparison shooting at 13:20-14:30 i noticed that the gen 4 glock had a little higher pitch sound to it, just a minute thing. i didn't notice any difference in recoil or slide movement, or anything of that nature. again nice vid
Interesting to see the comparison and your perspective. Have you shot any groups on paper to see if the gen4's new design also affect group accuracy? Maybe that could be another comparison vid. Glock gen4's are getting some bad press lately, so comparison shooting vids will help us see the positives and negatives of the new design. Thanks
First time checkin' in, wanted firstly to thank you for your videos, it got my wife into shooting, we're both close to 60. Now shooting is even more fun! I've had so many Glocks, love them, and my favorite now is my 20C. My next purchase is the 23, better for EDC, and now that I've seen this video, I'm going for the Gen 4 with the dual recoil spring. I could SEE a difference, like my 26. Thanks very much sir.
Hey Hickok! I've been watching your videos for a while now, man do you have a tough life making these videos, it's gotta be horrible lol! Can't wait till I get my track of land and get to enjoy shooting out my backdoor! Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that I am making my first Glock purchase tomorrow and its going to be a 23 gen 4. I had researched all the models out there and narrowed it down to the 23 and 27, and your videos have helped me narrow it down to the 23.. Thanks so much!!!
Hey Hickok, I noticed the erratic ejection from the Gen4. That is the major complaint from owners of the Gen 4 Glocks. I bought a new Gen 4 G27 and love how it shoots.
Hickok, Thanks for this comparison video. I have a GLOCK 23 GEN4 ..... and ... I love it. Ever since I was introduced to GLOCKS,.... I'm all in. My next Purchase will be a GLOCK 19 GEN4. Thanks for all the videos you put together for all of us gun enthusiasts. Keep it real ..........................
@hickok45 I have sir, and it's a good video, but in light of gen 4 controversy, I thought a group accuracy vid comparing two generations of G23's would be interesting.
According to some glock armorers and my departments training instructors. The gen 4 has fixes for the slide cracking on the ejector port and some other issues like spring breakage etc. That they had on the older gens.
I'm suprised that Ginger hung around for all that shooting. Great review hickok. I bought a G19 for my first carry gun, next year I'll upgrade to the G23 gen 4 (I wanted them to work out any issues first). Your glock vidoes helped me decide what gun to carry and Tnoutdoors9 helped me decide what ammo. You two are awesome!!
I got me a gen 3 23 I carry it everyday except when I'm at work I have a different carry for that but when I'm not I have my 23 on me all day everyday day
nice job. i really enjoy these comparo vids. I watched a few times and after lining up the muzzle with a tree twig in the background I think the G4 does have less flip. I'm thinking of getting a 40 cal. Now I'm leaning towards a new G4 27 in preference to a cheaper used G3. thanks!
After watching Hickok's vid I did a search and just purchased a G23 gen 2 in very good condition. I like it better than the generation 3 with the rail. No generation 4's here in Cali-10 Round-Fornia.
Excellent video, Hickok45!!! I own a generation 3 Glock 23C, and I've wondered how much of a difference there was between the generations in how they shoot. BTW, if you are considering doing another comparison video, I would love to find out if you think there is any difference between the compensated models and the regular models in how they shoot (muzzle flip and felt recoil).
I've really enjoyed watching your videos. Please keep up the good work. There is a fairly good article this month in the Special Edition of American Handgunner on Gen 4 Glocks. They used a Glock 17 in their article. Your video and that article seem go hand in hand.
I only noticed a difference in the empty shell case ejection. The 4th Gen seems more random and less often to the right side. They fly straight up sometimes and back over your head sometimes. Kinda weird.
Hey Greg, Great review, thanks for positng. I watched your video on reloading a while ago. Are you still reloading as much? I've found it's not really worth it to reload 9 mm. I'm still relaoding .45acp at about half the cost of store purchased ammo. have you ever considered using different sized gongs for diferent tones? You could play a song with the tones from the gongs as you shot them... lol
Hey Hickock45...Great videos I really enjoy them. I however have found some real negatives on the new Gen4 model 23 as well as the other gen4 Glocks. First, the trigger is heavier on the newer model not a huge deal but still different. Second, and the worst thing yet is the trigger bar has a nipple on it. Causing hang ups and making it difficult to reassemble and causes jams. I filed it off solving the issue. Lastly, why don't they go by "If it ain't broke don't fix it... Thanks Great Job...
thank mr hickok45 for all your demonstration videos , i enjoy them very much. i have watch them over and over again for wanting to get me a glock 19 gen 4 , glock 23 gen 4 and glock 26 gen 4. still undecided which one i want and comfortable with. I want light weight as possible, accuracy , power, less failure maybe long range. what your comment /anyone can comment on this as well
Thanks for the great videos- We Tennesseeans are well represented on the Tube- I've watched many of your clips but I haven't seen one where you talk about your range. Could you give us the approximate distances you're shooting? Thanks for all the information...
the recoil on the gen 4 was a tad lighter if you watch it again your black sleeve on your sweatshirt didn't shake as much as the gen 2. keep making the great videos
They have also put the "older style" finish in the newer Gen 3 glocks as well, just picked a new 23 a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. Didn't know if you or not, just thought i would spread that info for anyone who was wondering.
Hey Hickok i have a question for you. I used to have the glock 23 gen 3. Im thinking about getting another one. I like the gen 3 im wondering if i should get another gen 3 or should i go the gen 4. Which one do you prefer
God vid as usual. Been considering a 23, Gen 3 or 4. I have a Gen 3, 27 and want another 40 cal. for concealed carry. With the extra capacity and improved performance it looks like the Gen 4 is the way to go. Thanks
This is off subject, but I was curious: Have you ever went to shoot a gun at a safe direction to check if theres anything in the chamber and actually fired a bullet?
Great video, do you think going from G30 G4 to G23 G4 is a big difference in recoil? It's difficult to rent guns where I'm located and interested in a .40 sw
Hickok, I appreciate your great reviews and in depth insight on everything you review. Your gen4 g23 review has persuaded me to try a glock. Being military I became accustom to the da/sa but when it comes to personal ccw you have helped immensely, and I will be shortly carrying a 23 off duty and no longer trying to conceal a full size .45 Ruger p90. What do you recommend for a good holster for concealing the 23?
I followed Hickok's lead and bought the Talon grips. I liked them so much I ended up ordering a set for each of my Glocks. They are absolutely perfect! And a ten percent discount for law enforcement and military.
@hickok45 Hey Hickok, I'm a brazillian fan of your videos. It would be nice a video comparing the recoils between the two new glocks gen 4 in .40 caliber - G22 and G23. Once the G23 is far more concealable, I guess the G22 is noticeable more controlable...
Just wanted to thank you for making this video. Just bought a Gen 4. First time I've shot a pistol since my Dad taught me to shoot when I was young. I'm 72 now and a women but have five horses so I guess I'm in pretty good shape. The Glock feels very nice and balanced. Have to use the quick loader though. Don't know if the spring is stiff or my hands are losing strength. Hope it gets easier as I use them more.. Cheers
@hickok45 I have a couple of the Supertuck holsters as well. They work very well for me. I also have a Kholster on order. Maybe you could do a quick vid on the Supertuck one day... Thanks as always for the great vids!
I'm considering the 23 G4 as my first purchase. I really enjoyed your video as it was very informative. Are there any suggestions you would offer to a first time purchaser?
I actually love the feel, size of the G19 and G23. They are just perfect. I think for sure that the G23 Gen 4 does not kick as much after watching this. I think I may be having one in the near future.
Thank u for your videos. Enjoy them very much. I just purchased my first ever Glock. WS wondering out of the box before going to shoot it , would you recommend doing anything to the gun? Oil, wipe it down, etc? Any advice would be appreciated. I am an old "45 wheel gun" so this will be an experience. Thank you again. Todd
Love the vids Hickok. I'm a new Glock owner, a 17. But, been shooting rifles and shotguns my whole life. 40 something now. After buying the 17 on advice because it felt the best in my hand at the time, I've grown concerned that there is no way I'm gonna want to carry this everyday. And, that's why I bought it. I'm training, and will get my CC permit in a couple weeks. So I want the 23. That's what brought me to this video. Should I be looking to get the Gen 4 23, and what's your take on the C?
this will be my next Glock. I have a Glock 19 Gen 4. I love that gun. I have a Glock 22 Gen 4. I feel i should of seen your videos sooner. I like the 22 but i think i would of been happier to go with the 23 Gen 4 for my CCW. My last gun i have and i love it is my Glock 30 Gen 4. Thank you for your videos. Keep them up.
I have the Glock 30 gen3. It is my first and only gun (so far; my want list is extensive;) ). I also want the gen423 for my next gun, for CCW and otherwise. I've shot the 19 and the 23 at the range, and they feel great in my hand, compared to the 30. I have small hands (I'm 5'5") and the 30 is a bit wide which affects trigger reach and becomes marginal for me to be able to grip the way I'd like to. The 19/23 size frame feels excellent OTOH. I also like the .40 cal and the capacity it offers.
When the video first started, I was looking at the two 23's and wondering.. "What kind of grips are those.." LOL. Come to find out it was just from using the firearm. Great videos!
I just bought one I couldn’t resist I’ve never really been a Glock fan boy kind of a Sigg fan boy but Glock for concealed carry 40 caliber 13 rounds I feel like that’s a no brainer and I’m gonna have a great gun for years super excited I found one during these times.
Added a glock 19 gen 4 a few weeks ago and in the next month or so I'm definitely getting a glock 23 gen 4. Can't wait to have 2 of the best IMHO glocks they offer.
