The Glock rear sight channels are actually slightly tapered. The right side is slightly bigger than the left. You should always push sights out to the right and slide new sights in from the right. Makes it a million times easier and also keeps you from damaging the sights you're removing/installing.
I gotta say, I was thrilled at the prospect of installing my sights this way without having to buy a sight pusher. Bought some nylon punches and clamped my Glock in my vice... The factory sight came out easy as pie. The new sight however, stalled about 1/3 of the way. I beat the *holy hell* out of that thing, and it never budged. I could punch it out, but not back in. When the nylon punch started to deform, I realized this was never going to work. I went to Amazon, defeated... and ordered a sight pusher. I'll probably only do this once, so buying this tool really crushed my spirit. But I tell you, 20 seconds after opening the box, my sight was sitting pretty on my Glock. Perfectly centered. Could _not_ have been any easier. Mad props to those of you who are able to do this with a hammer and a punch. But for me, it was a no go.
it absolutely infuriates me when i see someone do something online like tapping something in and they make it look simple but when i tap it a lot harder it just doesnt budge
Way too late for me to help but amazons return policy is pretty good. You could’ve returned the pusher saying it didn’t fit your firearm and get a refund. Essentially a free rental lol
Your video helped me with replacing 43 sights. Thanks. Brass punch and microfiber wrapped around slide in vice worked well. The rear sight is tapered and a tip for installing front sight screw. Shove paper flush into bottom of nutdriver to expose threads of that ridiculous short screw when re-installing. I dropped mine into the carpet🙃 their went 30 minutes of my life lol
You can use also wood chop stick and kitchen meat hammer :D ... i suggest also: before you begin, mark with pencil on slide lines from both sides where your sights start & end. This will really help to center new sights especially if you replace basic plastics for glock metal or glock night sights of same size :) i used this method today and it took like 5 minutes to replace from start to end :)
Put the slide in the vise with the sights facing up and it won't slip around in the vice (hammer out horizontally). Or put something underneath to brace it.
FYI, if you DONT have or can’t find a nylon or brass push, don’t try and get steel pushes from Lowes and think that using something as a cushion will help. It will instead ruin the rear sight. Ask me how I know….
@@consuelomeza7212 I used a small plastic punch and a hard plastic mallet. They came in a punch set I bought a long time ago for gun repairs/installations like this one. I just placed a towel on my table and positioned the pistol so that I could gently tap the old sight off and slide the new sight on.
Tap in on a flat surface if you want the tap in way to get better results or do the vise clamp pressure to slide it in and is a whole lot easier that way
I like using the vise to push the sights in. Made up a mini punch just for sight install on the vise. Bonus is that I have a mini table clamp vise that works fine for tweaking the sights out at the range.
Just now doing some sights on a G17 slide. This is the wrong way to put the slide in the vice. Turn it 90 degrees so the sights are on top and slide it over so the sights are actually above the vice jaws. A stubborn sight install will make the slide move in the vice way too much.
Great instructional video, I been reading your reviews on various products for awhile now and I just realized I was not subscribed to your channel, I corrected that mistake just now and finally subscribed. Keep up the great work and content, hope you and yours are staying safe, take care. 🍻👍🏽💯🙌🏽
Yep, I see why I waited so long to sub now haha 😂 if I’d found this years ago I would have laughed and kept scrolling. Nowadays this is like a totally different channel, thanks for that!! Lol
Hello. If you move the sights on the Glock 43x and want to have them aligned again, you need to just put the sights exactly in the middle? Dont you need to give the gun to the gun repair shop to make it accurate? Is it ok if i use laser cartridge to check it? 😅
I installed meprolite night sights on a 1911 and the instructions stated do not install with punch and hammer because it could damage the tritium vials in the sights!!!!!
Yup! Some guys already own a bench, a vice, and a hammer so they don’t want to spend the $20 to $40 for a sight pusher. They’d rather risk their $90 sights.
If you clamp the slide with the sights closer to the end of the vise it is less likely to move when driving the punch. Machinist James. Any physics major would know this. What does a theoretical physicist do? Think about physics? Good job if you can get it.
Is it okay to do this process with a red dot already installed? Obviously you may have to move the slide out of the vice jaws a little bit more but other than that it should be fine right?
I have the all black Glock 43x i bought Amerigo spartan night sights I don't have a sight pusher and what size tool do you have to have to take off the front sight
Use this method if you're in a pinch. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and get a sighting tool. They are quite affordable, about $35, and can accommodate various types of guns and sights. They're safer on the sights and gun and are best for precise adjustments.
This seems like an easy way to break some tritium sights. I guess with a nylon punch it's not as risky, but you have to be really careful that you're hammering right on the base of the sight and don't swing too hard. I've seen a lot of broken trijicon sights that were installed with a proper sight pusher because the guy wasn't pushing on the very base of it and the fragile tube inside cracked open from the pressure. Hitting it with a hammer would surely shatter it.
@Travis Olander I did armorer work at a gun store for a while, I never said I was an expert or a gunsmith. Stop being but hurt please. I was trying to warn people to be careful because I've seen how easily these things can break if you don't do it right. But I guess you can break your expensive sights if you want to.
Can't re-enforce safety habits enough. Someone watching the video who's new to their Glock and just jumping into upgrades, may not have the habits burned in yet, so this serves as a reminder to them.
I love the guys that raise the muzzle when they start to sweep the camera. It's like these safety nazis *really* believe a bullet would go straight through the lens, and into their eyeball
Just be careful, it's possible to shatter the tritium vials using a punch and hammer. I imagine it's less likely with a nylon punch, but still possible. Now, if only I had a vise ;(
It wasn't pretty but I used an adjustable as a hammer a Honda Accord shifter box as a table and a flat head screwdriver as a punch and needle nose pliers and I was able to install ghost ring sites and they are dead on 😂😂😂
@@prodbyjxff5724 Before he breaks the pistol down, it is correct, all white faces shooter. 1:13 he picks up the stripped slide about to take frt sight off. WHITE DOT FACES FORWARD. Turn the PAGE, Jeffrey.
Yeah great video where the instructions said not to do so this way but the question is u still have to calibrate the sights u know that rights is not put them on and thats it ok
I think I understand your point, but your spelling and grammar suck. Not trying to be your school teacher, but they teach those things to make it easier for other people to understand you.
hello man; nice video, 👍🏼 since I have to do the same thing on my G17, what did you use to remove the rear sight? what could I use so that I don't damage the rear sight or the slide? I thank you in advance!
