If you think about it, bullets are just tiny bombs, controlled by a steel tube. That should keep you safety minded a bit more perhaps. But some people just don't care enough until they actually shoot themselves by accident.

Just a quick FYI. On the XD, the cocked indicator is the small silver pin on the rear of the slide. When it is protruding it is cocked. The indicator on the top of the slide is a round chambered indicator. When it is raised there is a round in the pipe and she is ready to rock.

+tdej80 I went into a range/shop today.. confident I was walking out with a M&P45.. no way.. I wasn't going to be upsold. And my luck, was a glock event.. So they let me take both the M&P45 and the Glock21 (.45) out to the range and before I knew it, I was buying the glock... and I'm happy with it. I think it comes down to your hand. What feels good, and allows a good trigger pull.. counts for a lot. I shot better with the glock. Both are known for quality and reliability. I'll still buy a S&W M&P45 or the 9mm. But I feel no regrets with my purchase.

When I bought my first polymer gun, I was sure I was going to end up with the m&p9 or Glock 19, but after trying just about every brand, I somehow ended up with the Xd. It was initially near the bottom of my list, but it ultimately performed the best for me. I didn't want it, but I bought it and it grew on me. Now I can't imagine owning any of the other brands' polymer guns. It might not have the big following or be the coolest looking, but the damn thing just works. droks510 I couldn’t agree more. I have several XDm’s and have never had a malfunction on any of them. The guns are are comparable, but the grip safety alone puts the XD family well above the others to me. You never read about the accidental discharges from XD’s like you do from Glocks because with Glocks if something catches the trigger, like keys or a piece of a worn leather holster, it goes off. Not so with the XD family. Won’t go off unless that extra grip safety is pressed. And the XDm’s come with three sizes of back straps, so his argument of grip sizes is out the window. Finally, I’m a trigger nerd. The XD family is extremely easy to work on and you can do trigger jobs to get the trigger exactly how you’d want it. Mine is short and crisp like a good 1911. Can’t do that with the weird ass Glock triggers. They XD’s are just awesome guns.

@@BPattB Ignore what others say, once you've established that the gun you want or have has been tested by professional competitive shooters, cops, armorers, etc, and declared good. The others do not have better grips and triggers. Nor are they more accurate. The point Jerry is trying to make, I'm trying to make, ANY professional shooter who is being honest with you, is trying to make, is basically that you should weed through the high end defensive pistols, listening to the opinions of professional shooters, armorers, 'smiths, as long as you pay attention to who is paying their paychecks, so you learn which guns are truly top of the line. At that point though, you disregard their opinion. Because once you establish the well made and dependable firearms which have proven themselves as duty weapons, competition weapons, tested weapons...the rest is no longer what's good or bad. It's simply what works for you personally. That's it.

Thanks for a great comparison of the 3 polymer guns. I really like the reliable Glocks, but lately my wife has been gun shopping and I had my first close up look at the M&P9. She's tried many pistol brands to find a small grip that allowed her to reach the trigger, but not so small that recoil becomes punishing, including Sig, Glock, Ruger, S&W, Beretta & others. Initially she was afraid of recoil and only looked at .380 pistols like the Sig P238. Then we discovered that 9mm pistols like the Glock 17 or 19 and M&P9 had enough weight to absorb the recoil. The M&P9 won out because the small backstrap and curved grip shape allow her to reach the trigger best. The grips on Glocks and Sigs were too large and square so they hurt her accuracy.

Thanks, Jerry. It's great that an accomplished expert like you are willing to share your expertise with us. I have one question - even with the sear release on the M&P, can you still disassemble it by striking the firing pin out without manipulating the sear?

Another advantage of the Glock is how simple it is to operate and maintain. Not just regular maintenance, either. The Glock is like the AR-15 or the Ruger 10/22 in that there is huge aftermarket support. You can fix or replace about anything that can go wrong with a Glock by yourself with nothing more than a pin punch in minutes and can modify your pistol any number of different ways. It makes the Glock easier to keep running and easier to customize than any other handgun on the market.
@commonsense7787
@commonsense7787 4 года назад
How is this different than M&P?
@916meds5
@916meds5 4 года назад
Owning all 3 of these guns, they all are easy to disassemble with simple tools, all easy to modify, and all 3 have many after market modifications. For me the only mods that matter are night sights and a lighter shorter trigger pull. Anything after that is pretty much just competition or for looks.
@MTMILITIAMAN7.62
@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 2 года назад
@@commonsense7787 The Glock has been around longer and has much higher acceptance among law enforcement and military. This acceptance leads to more aftermarket support. I am not saying the M&P isn't a good pistol or that it hasn't been proven by law enforcement, or that it doesn't have some aftermarket support. But I just haven't seen nearly the level of acceptance the Glock has, nor the dizzying array of aftermarket support. The Glock also has a more complete lineup, and this helps draw a larger crowd. With the M&P you're limited primarily to 9mm and .40, with a few .45 models thrown in almost as an after-thought. With the Glock, you have those calibers in multiple different configurations, as well as cartridges like the 10mm Auto and the .357 SIG. The 10mm in particular gives the Glock the potential to reach markets other than personal defense. The 10mm Glocks are popular among outdoorsmen looking for protection against wildlife, and are issued in this capacity to several agencies in Alaska and Norway. I love my Gen III Glock 20. It is the pistol that got me into Glocks. I'd love it if S&W came out with an M&P 10, esp an optics ready model, but they don't, and this limits their market acceptance.
@MTMILITIAMAN7.62
@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 2 года назад
@@916meds5 I disagree. Caliber conversions are immensely popular modifications that can add a lot of potential to a handgun. Some people don't want a 9mm. The support available for the Glock far exceeds those of other designs, and draws a larger crowd. Try getting an M&P in 9x25 Dillon. Or 10mm Auto for that matter. The Glock 20 possibly saved the 10mm cartridge, kept it relevant, and the 10mm Glocks are still very popular in my neck of the woods for protection from wildlife. You just have more options with the Glock. It has been around longer, accepted by more agencies and military units, and its acceptance in the market place reflects this. If you want a 9mm or a .40, there is any number of good options for you. If you want something else, your options go down. The large frame Glocks have about a dozen different cartridges you can convert them to. And really the only trusted name in town right now for a 10mm is Glock. I know Springfield makes some XDs in 10mm now, but nobody who really runs their guns trusts the XD like the Glock. It just doesn't have the following and hasn't been proven for serious duty use like the Glock has.

Actually, S&W made the first polymer pistol (Nylon) many years ago, but the president of the company at the time said, as far as he was concerned, S&W will never make and market a plastic pistol, so the project was shelved and the prototype destroyed! Luckily, as new leaders came in, that policy was ousted! (This info comes from the AGI video tour of S&W and it's present historian) AGI = American Gunsmithing Institute

Actually no offense to the man Jerry but he hardly knew how to disassemble an Xd, you lock the slide back and push the tab up then release the slide then pull the trigger. From beginning to end, the Xd is actually the ashtray to disassemble even faster then the Glock because people don’t take into consideration that you have to rack the slide and pull the trigger first before you disassemble it, they just count the little bit you pull the slide back and release the tabs so they think it’s the fastest.

Jerry thanks for the great, informative videos. Please consider adding the FNH FNX™-45 and/or the FNH FNX™-45 TACTICAL to your next polymer pistol roundup (or review them alone, or against other made-in-the-USA polymer pistols)! With my larger-than-normal hands, it's easily the best to grip, but before I spend nearly a grand so I can own a comfortable semi-auto pistol, I'd love to see what you think. Also, please consider shooting a .300 Win Mag AR-15-style semi-auto rifle such as the Miller Precision Arms MPA-300 Guardian, the .300 Win Mag OMEN by NEMO Arms, Inc., or the Noreen Arms 'Bad News' .300 Win Mag AR, all made in the USA, and semi-auto for those of us who want, and can handle, a bit more boom than .308 Winchester AR-10s can offer!

I would love to hear Jerrys' opinion on the Springfield XDm-45 compact. I recently purchased one in bi-tone, I absolutely love it, it fits my hands well, and came from factory with all the bells and whistles ( lockable case, gun & mag holsters, mag loader, high & low capacity mags, and interchangeable grips.) I didn't have to break the bank or purchase the weapon and then buy all the add ons, like a match barrel, lighter trigger, extended slide release. How it came, is how i like it. Honestly, i didn't even consider a S&W due to price (shame on me), and i have no buyers remorse about it.

Jerry, thank you for your videos , they are very informative and educational. I have my fathers S&W 38 Police Special which I value more than anything and I will shoot it from time to time. But I have a S&W 686 that I love. The trigger was really tough so I took it to a so called gun smith which ruined it. I can only shoot it double action now because the trigger is so light that I wouldn't dare to try and shoot it single action. When I find a gun smith that really knows their job, I will try and have what ever was done to it reversed. Thank you again for your videos .

What do you think of the CZ polymer line, Jerry? I love CZ, and my P-09 is probably the best pistol I've ever fired. Of course, the CZ-75 is well known the world over, but their polymer framed line is incredible, too. CZ is one of those companies that seems to always be the dark horse, but they make damn fine quality at an affordable price. It absolutely melds to my hand.

Ellopez05 Yeah, my buddy has a 75b, and it's amazing, but my P-09 is just as good. In fact, he's always bugging me to trade him, but my P-09 is my nightstand gun, so I like the slightly higher capacity. I'd say both are just excellent firearms.

"I'm kinda' partial to the Smith and Wesson, what can I say?" I think I figured that out when I saw you wearing the Team Smith and Wesson Shirt at the beginning. Since you are sponsored by them, I'm not surprised. While I'm a fan of M&P over Glock (have a 40c and Shield 9mm), maybe a different shirt would have made your review seem more objective. Not to mention using an XDM instead of the original XD.

+Blunt Force Trauma Going through his videos it doesn't seem like he has many more videos on MPs than he does any other firearms he uses a lot. At the point hes at in his career and shoot skill level I cant think of many reasons he would even need to cater to a sponsor. When you are one of, if not THE biggest names in the industry youd have to be fed some pretty tasty peanuts to make it worth ditching your self respect and integrity for a company you don't actually support.As someone whos owned glocks and smith and wessons the reason he opts for the MP seems pretty clear to me... They are just better.
@tronclay
@tronclay 8 лет назад
+Blunt Force Trauma Funny, because as someone who actually owned a Bodyguard the trigger was, in my opinion, one of the redeeming factors of the gun. Mine had a smooth double action pull and while on the range and doing dry fire practice with a Dry-fire laser I found that my accuracy with the Bodyguard was about on par with my accuracy with the Glock 43.As far as your "strength to pull" argument goes im guessing you've never actually fired a Bodyguard but instead are just going by what you've heard about D/A triggers. My Bodyguard's trigger was smooth right up to the break then it cleared the wall with a clean click.In my opinion the bodyguard isn't a BAD gun, its just not my cup of tea. I also found that, for WHATEVER reason, I actually had an easier time pulling the trigger accurately with my OFF hand rather than my strong hand. I have zero idea why but its something I vividly remember about the pistol. If you have a hard time pulling the trigger on a Bodyguard 380 then my advice is that your fingers are rather weak and you either shouldn't be using a D/A handgun or you just need to strengthen your fingies.
