Today is my one year mark on Mounjaro. I've lost 58 lbs on this life changing medication. I started trying to lose weight Jan 2023 when I had my first knee replacement surgery, through that and the second knee in May 2023, I lost 14lbs, so the total lbs all together is 72 lbs. YAY! Still can't believe it, but I also have about 35lbs to go to be out of the obese catagory. I live in Hayesville, NC. In the mountains bordering Lake Chatuge. We retired here 3 years ago and are loving it. One of the things you touched on in this segment was what we all have been learning about being obese and that it's a disease. In my life, some of the worse people (Doctors) treated me shamefully. It was their job to shame me. I guess they thought that was their job and in so doing that I would want to lose weight??Living all our lives being obese, we can tell pretty quickly who is prejudice against obese people. I do realize MJ has been out for many years now, but I also realize people in the medical field aren't always educated in all areas of medicine, how can they be. So, in my mind instead of lashing out and blaming my past doctors on how I was treated, I'm extending grace to them. We all learn things as best we can in this life. I'm so very grateful for this medication and the people I meet and learn from during this journey. Thank you both for being a part of that.
Hello from Bakersfield Ca, in the lower part of the Central Valley, also known as San Joaquin Valley. I’m so glad you talked about being cold I’m experiencing that too. I can feel the chill to my bones. I’ve lost a total of 133 lbs and the same thing happens ed to me right after losing from gastric bypass 24 yrs ago. I’m a month away from my 1 year anniversary of taking Mounjaro so far I’ve lost 89 lbs while on it added to 45 lbs I lost in the 7 months. Total lost of 133.4
Laraine and Christopher, another great show. It helps so much to know that I am not alone on plateaus despite doing everything right. I am on prescribed 15mg (7.5 Mounjaro + 7.5 tirzepatide) so I have nowhere to go but to up my movement and keep protein the priority without lots of other calories. Here's crossing my fingers for that 1 more pound, Laraine! And that the 15mg. gets your body into losing gear, Christopher. Thanks so much!
Thanks Barb! Plateaus are normal, and very frustrating! You might try increasing your food intake for a few days, then drop back down and see if that jumpstarts anything.
I'm in Orlando in the summer where it is 91 degrees (a cool day for here) and I am sitting at my desk wearing leggings, socks and a lovely thick hoodie. Sometimes I grab my electric blanket and put that on my lap. I lost 200 lbs with a gastric bypass and do not remember being this cold, but that was 20+ years ago, so I could be wrong. Usually (230 lbs ago), I have my room air on 65 degrees and blowing a fan on me at the same time. Thinking about doing that now sounds like torture! For folks not getting regular bloodwork, it's not the worst idea to get your iron checked. Not eating as much can lower our iron stores and anemia makes one really cold, too. If iron is good, then it's presumed to be the weight loss! I'm just thanking the Universe I don't live in North Dakota! Or Saskatchewan, Canada!
Laraine, I'm down 49 lbs this week too. (194lbs to 145lbs) It would be great for me to hit the 50 lb mark on July 5th, my one-year anniversary. I'm excited for you.
Hi I am in Saskatchewan, Canada and am loving your videos. You both are so easy going and informative. I just stared on Wegovy June 1 but was up and down the same two lbs the entire month. I ended up only losing 2 lbs in 4 weeks on the 0.25 dose. I was ready to throw the towel in. I thought perhaps I was one of the few who didn't respond to the medication. At my initial consult with two pharmacists I was told to make sure and prime the medication. I continued to prime every Saturday when I took my shot. Yesterday I moved up to the 0.50 dose and decided to call the pharmacist to share that it didn't seem to be working that well. Thank goodness I called as I found out that you only prime the first pen in each box of the new dose. Also, the pen needed to be on a - (dash) picture in the dose window not the actual dose amount showing! She told me that basically I was shooting all of the medicine in the air, wasting it when I primed the pen. My heart fell to my stomach and I literally felt sick. Going forward I will ensure that I am priming correctly. But to think I almost gave up and have wasted five weeks of a very expensive medication. I paid out of pocket but have recently been approved by my insurance after my doctor had to fill out a lengthy form documenting why I needed the medication. Sorry for the long comment but needed to share in case there was someone else in this situation. Laraine, just received my Amazon order with my 40 oz special mug to help me reach my water goals following your recommendation!
Yay for special mug! :) I haven't heard of priming the pen - I guess with my compounded tirz I make sure there is no air in the syringe and no bubbles. Anyway I'm glad you figured out the issue. Also glad your insurance approved! That is the jackpot right there! Just keep going and track your progress - I made a spreadsheet you can use if you want: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RTaZ_HmxUGdqLyFaljK6BU-uj_wsK6Cv--DOvcLIDIc/edit?usp=sharing
@user-rt7zh2ym7y: There's a bunch of new research that says to wait at least 3-6 _months_ before giving up. You are on the lowest dose... the "loading dose"... that primes your body for the higher doses that are typically the doses that trigger weight loss. Some people can stay on 2.5 and lose their weight... lucky them! My body wouldn't have budged on 2.5 milligrams. "Priming" is different for different providers. For some, it is taking the empty syringe and pumping the plunger back and forth to make it a smooth flow once you have the medication inside the barrel. How I learned as a midwife was to move the plunger back and forth on an empty syringe, then pull up the medication to the proper line (the black of the plunger lines up with the amount prescribed), pull the needle out of the medication. Flick the barrel to make any bubbles float towards the upraised needle then, _this_ is what I know as priming: Very, very, very gently push the plunger teensy tiny bits, barely moving it, but watching the bevel (end) of the needle that's still facing upward, and look for one tiny drop to form. STOP PUSHING IMMEDIATELY! That drop lets you know there is no air in the needle or barrel and you are good to inject. If that makes sense to you, confirming with the pharmacist or your provider, then you are good to go. If not, ask your provider until you have 1) been shown what they mean or 2) are sure you both are talking about the same thing. It is horrible to lose a whole injection! I've given injections for 30+ years and messed up an Ozempic shot when I had to change from Mounjaro for a month. Ozempic and Wegovy pens are VERY different than Mounjaro pens! I wasted a whole week's worth of medication, so I understand that frustration. I hope this helps.
We are very low-key on the Fourth of July. We relocated nine years ago, so we really have no friends, and my husband is an introvert. Every Fourth of July we get Cold Stone ice cream and we walk the neighborhood and look at all the fireworks - which there are tons around us, including the big ones in the sky. This year differently, I will not be getting my own quart of ice cream, which is my weakness. I will be downsizing significantly, but I’m still having my Fourth of July ice cream.
I love Cold stone ice cream 😍. When we lived in Omaha,NE there were so many fireworks on the 4th- and it was so flat there that you could see them going off constantly. Thanks for watching! 🎆🎇
Highlands Ranch CO. Really enjoy your content. I'm on MJ 5mg, Started a couple of weeks before you both did, 9/10/23. Down 72lbs, currently at 184lbs. 👍
@@thedownsized not yet. My goal is to continue to eat healthy and exercise. I figure my weight will eventually stabilize. I’ll work with my PCP on a maintenance plan at that time.
Charlotte, NC (as you know) 😉 Checked out the website, and it’s looking good so far. It will definitely be nice to have a one stop shop for all things The Downsized. Looking forward to any merch you make… I’m now 52 lbs down, so I guess I qualify to wear a “Downsized” t-shirt! 😘
Hey Mindy! Congrats on the 52 pounds! We definitely need merch. I want T shirts and maybe water mugs. Any other requests? I guess we will need hoodies when it gets cold!
@@thedownsized Haha! Since we're always cold on these meds, hoodies are probably needed, and tumblers are a GREAT idea since we NEED to stay hydrated. For those who exercise, maybe a Headsweats (brand) visor and/or hat?
@@thedownsized i use the pen so do not know if the compounding injection hurts??? i rotate and i notice that in my thigh and back of the arm the medicine last longer no side effect on any area thank GOD! i have less fat on my stomach and more on my thigh and back arm ????? do you know if fat areas have more effect on the medicine ???
It doesn't really hurt, it's just more involved looking at the needle and everything. I feel the needle going in at first, but that's really it. I'm a big chicken. I'll have to try the thigh. Right now I really don't have any side effects now that I've gone back down to 7.5.
This is Christopher - you can reference Eli Lilly supply tracker site The 2.5mg, 5mg, and 12.5mg doses are listed as available on the FDA Shortage Webpage. The 7.5mg, 10mg, and 15mg doses are listed as having limited availability through Q2 2024. Here is the link supply.lilly.com/zepbound
Laraine and Christopher, thanks for this. I just had to stop taking Terzepatide this past week as I was exhausted beyond belief (I wanted to stay in bed all weekend and get into bed at 4 PM as I was bone tired. I've only had 5 shots and took b12 shots with them. Otherwise it was working well as I lost 12 lbs. I didn't get above 2.5. Have you heard of others getting through this side affect? Is there any way to get around it? I am so very bummed about it.
Oh no :( That sounds terrible. I haven't heard of anyone being that fatigued on the 2.5. The B12 should've helped. Were you eating enough / anything? You did lose pretty well on the 2.5 - maybe talk to your Dr. about micro dosing. I've heard of others taking less than 2.5 and still getting some of the benefits. @@thedownsized that's a good idea, I have heard that some people have been this bad on it and have gotten over it eventually but I couldn't function (and I don't have the luxury of doing nothing forever).
I use telehealth provider Mochihealth, joinmochi.com/ - and I get my meds thru them from Hallandale Pharmacy in FL. Use my code for $40 off at Mochi: get $40 using code QIYGO8
Just consulted my spreadsheet - my first goal was 150 pounds. I started at 193. I hit that in 27 weeks. Then I decided my goal was 145, and that took a total of 34 weeks.
