Hope your weight loss journey is going well! I started my first dose July 25th and so far I’ve lost 6lbs! Stay motivated and work to establish good habits for long term success
African American Female age 64. (65 this month) 4 months on Mounjaro. Loss 55 lbs. Non-diabetic. 10mg. 12.5 is on delay. But looking forward to moving up. I didn't experience any stalling. I'm still averaging 2lbs a week. No side effects. No cravings. I'm very pleased with Mounjaro.
I’m glad you said this. I just started 3 days ago and I might be happier if I felt some side effects. But I already eat rather healthy, and my goal is to lose 45 pounds. I am hopeful!
I’m an African American woman 48 years old. I’ve been on Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) since October 2, 2023 for weight loss. Starting weight was 325. I’m still on the drug and my weight as of January 12, 2024 is 294. I started on 2.5. I went up to 5.0 in November and stayed there through December. January 1, 2024 went up to 7.5 but had a lot of nausea and constipation. I went back down to 2.5 January 8, 2024. On December 15, 2023, I also started Weight Watchers as a permanent lifestyle change. I hope this information helps someone.
I’ve been using Wegovy for 7 months. I think I may be one of those special cases you were speaking of. I had already been practicing keto for many years and had lost 130 lbs., but during the time my daughter got sick and ultimately passed away, I gained back 40 lbs., and it would NOT come off (stress). For me Wegovy will only be a temporary tool. I’ve lost 32 pounds with its help since April. I want to lose 42 more, and then I will stop. I am now a healthy active 71 year old. I will continue to be keto for the rest of my days, because of the amazing energy and clarity of mind that it gives me. 💜💜💜💜
56 year old caucasian female. Started Mounjaro is October 2022 worked up to 12.5 mg by July 2023 loosing 100 lbs. I got off of it for approximately 2 months and began to gain a little back. I found I cold not control it so I got back on it and working on a maintenance dose that works well for me now. Starting weight was 254 currently 170. For me, Mounjaro was a miracle. I had 3 weight loss surgeries in the past with not much luck at keeping the weight off. This totally changed my thinking about food, it was not my focus anymore, I even had to remind myself to eat sometimes. I have RA and my joints do not hurt like they did before loosing the weight. I have had hypothyroidism for 43 years, my physician took me completely off my medication for it and my levels are staying within normal range. I did not have any side effects except a slight headache after taking the 12.5 injection the first few times.
I hear once you hit your goal weight you go back down to 7.5 an take it ever 2 weeks then every 3 weeks then once a month for maybe even a year or in some cases maybe forever to maintain the weight control
Hi, you posted about MJ a while ago… wondering how your journey is going. My dr has suggested I use it. Like you, me: RA + Osteo. Gastric sleeve failed but I confess my eating habits slipped back to sweets. Am 47 Caucasian… am worried about side effects plus long term stopping and weight gain. Is MJ worth it? P.s. sorry to ask a stranger but I don’t know anyone who’s on it
I'm going into week 5 of Zepbound. No side effects, but also no appetite. I am eating small portions of whole foods only. I cut out alcohol and white sugar completely. Walking 2 miles a day. I'm down 12 pounds and feel great..
Caucasian 70 yo diabetic female. I;ve been on Mounjaro for 14 months, Have lost 93 pounds. No side effects. Currently at 7.5 mg. This is a game changer for me!
@@rajusherlysebastian74… it depends on your plan. Most higher tier plan would cover it IF you are type 2 diabetic. Just call your insurance provider to see AND let your doctor send your forms ( I forget what they are called) to your insurance provider for approval. I was approved in two days, but….. I got a cheap insurance plan with a high deductible 😡 , so I can out of pocket or choose a more expensive option when open enrollment starts this fall.
I'm black. 44. Took Semiglutide (Ozempic) last year and lost 28% of my weight. (223lbs to 161) the Semiglutide stopped working (went off and gained 18lbs after my cruise and a stressful crisis) and switched to Tirzepatide last Saturday. Down 5lbs in 6 days.
I have been on mounjaro for one year. I am 68 years old, was on high blood pressure medication and high cholesterol medication. I was prediabetic with a AIC at 5.7. I have lost 86 pounds. I work out every day with weight training 3 days a week. I credit the large weight loss on both mounjaro and exercise. I am still losing weight but about 2 lbs a month. I am an Italian. You have to exercise.
57 yr old woman. Been on mounjaro and metformin 17 months. I have lost 70 lbs. I went from being obese and pre diabetic to being healthy and having great levels now. I am currently on maintenance. Don’t give up!!
@@janesdresser8843 maintenance for me: I keep track of my daily 1200 calories on my Fitness Pal, I take a shot every 7 to 9 days and I take metformin once a day. I’ve kept off the 70 pounds for over a year. I went from a size 16 to a 6. 🤷♀️. Started may 2022 reached my goal by June 2023.
I fall into the "best scenario bracket" from the test group you reference, albeit at 65 on the older end of the spectrum. I've been on 2.5 Mounjaro for exactly 8 weeks and have lost 6% of my starting body weight. I follow a carefully planned, protein-forward diet of at least 1300 calories per day. I do both weight training and rowing (on alternate days) 6x a week. I feel fantastic and have had very little bother from side effects.
Mounjaro is doing wonderful for me...I am reversing my diabetes using it and intermittent fasting...strength training...I am down over 60 pounds in less than 6 months. I stopped taking Metformin almost 2 months ago. Love the results...a little nausea at first but no side effects now and that is just on 5mg. Went from size 16/18 to a 8/10.
I lost no weight on Oz but when I switched to MJ, I lost 30 lbs. I'm diabetic, Asian with normal lipid levels, have well controlled A1C, and on Metformin so I fit under these findings.
Hope this helps women or people of color looking for use case scenarios. I’m 58, African American Female, starting weight 190, size 16, currently at 175, size 12/14. No goal weight as I’m on this for insulin resistance reversal, other health issues and longterm blood sugar stability. Started with 5.7 A1C, diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes in my 30’s with unexplained weight gain after not having any issues with weight or blood sugar up to then. Family history of type 2 diabetes, but same as me, father GFather, GMother, developed midlife after never having any struggles with food, weight or Blood Sugar. Struggled with up and down weight for many years later and was on metformin for at least a decade, but would stop when I lost weight not knowing or understanding that I likely had insulin resistance, hence the struggle with keeping weight off. Went Keto back in 2016 and had the most success with that eating regimen, maintained weight at around 165, size 10/12, for 3.5 years. Went off of it during Covid, obviously gained weight. Been back on it since Feb 2023 as I feel better overall and just in general eating Keto: ultra low carb, high fat, high to mod protein or balance of both. Diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2018. Note I have significant benign thyroid tumors, but no thyroid medication has been needed. My Doctor also suspects some metabolic issues as I also have POTS. Was diagnosed with POTS in Jan 2023 but struggled with symptoms for years and went undiagnosed. Because I was exercising and on a good eating regimen but not losing weight and had recently started gaining weight in my stomach for no apparent reason, my doctor said that insulin resistance was the cause and I needed help to reverse it. Not sure why he has never discussed insulin resistance with me, but reading that many doctors were not aware of long term effects of it and that there are people like me who were suffering even when we were doing the right things due to it being a silent underlying health issue. He said I would likely be on medication for the rest of my life to fight insulin resistance and that I was genetically predisposed to it. Hence why my 20 plus year struggle with diet, exercise, just lead to weight ups and downs and health difficulties. Been on Mounjaro 12 weeks so far. He also started me on 10 mg Farxiga at the same time. Minimal side effects. Sometimes I have some fatigue, but don’t know if it’s due to POTS or the Hashimotos to be honest as I’ve suffered from fatigue since 2017. I believe this is when the POTS issues really kicked in. I have some joint and muscle aches, and unusual foot pain, especially after dosing, and increasing the dose, but as long as I take my supplements overall the pain is not too bad. No hair loss. I had some stoppage of growth at my sides well before starting, and they do not know why. Otherwise I have very long and very thick hair that seems to be growing significantly faster than it did a few months ago. I started on 2.5 for 4 weeks, currently on 5 mg for last 8 weeks. Have had some stomach problems mainly due to POTS so wanted to increase slowly. I suggest anyone starting on this medication to heal your gut issues first. I started on live probiotic real food treatment in June and it’s made a difference. For the most part if there’s any added stomach issues they are tolerable or unnoticeable from my standard problems. No constipation. Also having some Low Blood Sugar problems recently which is why I’m increasing slowly. I plan to stay at 5 mg 4 more weeks then move to 7.5 mg. My doctor wants me at the maximum dose, but has been very agreeable allowing me to dictate the pace based on my symptoms and health issues. My insurance is covering the medications and I’m also using a Libre 3 glucose monitor which is also covered. I honestly believe that the Mounjaro is improving my insulin resistance and even to a lessor degree my POTS symptoms as it’s suspected the Hashimotos or Thyroid problems are what caused the POTS. If things continue along this line, although it’s slow progress, this medication will prove to be life changing. I honestly believe that the medical use of these medications will start helping far more people and that will overshadow the hoopla over the weight loss. Insulin resistance is far more problematic and folks should be more concerned about that. This is why so many people, especially those losing weight quickly, put it back on after stopping the drug. If you made it to the end of this long post, I hope it was helpful. Stay lifted! ♥️
@@Sally-vlado.mitchell Nobody asked you to read it. I specifically said it was to help those who might find it useful as a use case scenario. So…If that’s not you then keep it moving. Jeez. Your idiocy is showing.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I am currently looking into mounjaro vs ozempic. I am seriously leaning toward mounjaro since there seem to be fewer side effects and better results. I love hearing others success stories it gives me hope. 😊
I started Mounjaro in December 22. I was 6’5”, and a 50yo man. By 12 months I’d gone from 347lbs to 222. My job as a truck driver included on average 5 miles a day of walking, pushing, pulling and lifting. It was midway through that I added extra walking beside just for work. I went from 6.4 A1C to 5.5. My BMI went from 44 to 26.something. The biggest change isn’t just my weight, but between my ears. I’m been off it since December. I generally exercise walk 7-10 or more miles per day. In the past month I’ve started experimenting with light jogging. I absolutely do not want to go back.
@@edenlittle8077 thank you. That light jogging I mentioned? Yeah. I’m at 74 5ks (not competition), and 7 10ks. That 341 miles give or take just running since the first time on Jan 30. It’s more miles because at first I used the walking tracker at first. And, march 19, I decided to experiment with carnivore. I’ve been carnivore ever since. Not necessarily for weight loss, but to see if what others said was true; it reverses many diseases and inflammations. I love it, and I love running now. What’s happened to me?!
That's like high school weight man.. good job!! deciding if I want to jump on zepbound.. I'm 42 315 I don't look 315 everybody thinks I weigh 240.. I work out twice a week. Heavy lifting I'm pretty strong but need to drop weight. Maybe this could help..
I have been on Mounjaro for 13 months. I am diabetic and on no other meds. Weight loss has been slower for me than for my peers who are not diabetic. I carefully control my caloric intake and carb intake and exercise regularly. In 13 months have have lost 62 lbs for an average of about 1.1 lbs per week. Other health markers have greatly improved including A1c, fasting glucose, liver function, and cholesterol which are all now well in the healthy normal ranges. It is about so much more than weight loss.
Yes it is about much more than weight loss. I'm diabetic on insulin,( which puts alot of weight on the body) and had an A1C of 12.8 at one time. Shortages are occuring due to those who just wish to look thinner. Disgusting.
I’m getting ready to see my dr on February I’m 52 overweight 325lbs with high blood pressure i just called my insurance and will cover zepbound I’m so happy to start this journey I will do my best to achieve my goal loose 100 lbs.
I see you didn’t get a response yet. I also want to try. I one of these prescriptions as well Everyone that has lost weight for some reason do not want to disclose how they lost weight so I’m going to call my insurance company which I would suggest for you to do the same and ask them to give you a list of doctors For weight management from there you called the office and asked them do they administer weight loss medications. If we don’t ask, we won’t know. Take care and good luck.👍🏽 ❤ 😂
@@YvonneSmith-sq4ofthis is how I got it approved: - Joined a 6 month nutritional class provided by the insurance company. - Began consulting with primary pcp. - I’m pre diabetic and mentioned I did not want to become diabetic. - Asked pcp to submit to insurance my BMI and blood pressure readings. - Got approved
AA female, 63 yr old diabetic with high BP and cholesterol. I've been on Mounjaro 2.5 for 4 weeks and lost 15 lbs so far, A1C originally 9.2 down to 7.4 . I haven't done any exercise yet, but I'm constantly on my feet for work. I did experience minor gas and cramping a couple of days with the initial dose but no problems since. I follow a keto life style with an occasional cheat day but I honestly have to force myself to eat in order to take my other meds. It's been a lifesaver for me, more energy , better mood and alertness, but my biggest frustration is going to pharmacy after pharmacy to find it due to low stock because of excessive off label use.
41, Caucasian. Mounjaro went from 222 to 185 in 4 months. Stayed on 2.5 the whole time. Went off it for financial reasons for 3 months. Just restarted 2 weeks ago and have dropped 8 more lbs since. I cut most sugars out on mounjaro. It seems to help with my impulse control. Its a very helpful tool.
I just started Monjaro one week and 3 days ago, i lost 7 pounds! I am very happy! Only side effect, constipation. Other than that i am pleased.. i am drinking 4 bottles of water and im not eating fat food. I can’t wait to see how much i going to lose by xmas 😅
I'm a 30 year old half white half Asian female and I've been taking compounded tirzepatide since mid June 2023, then switched to mounjaro in November after I got my insurance to cover my medication. I've lost about 50lbs in the past 7months and I've been on the 15mg dose for 2 months already. I had gestational diabetes and took metformin when I was pregnant and then when I struggled to lose weight postpartum, I found out that I was pre-diabetic and that was why I only lost 5lbs last January and then plateaued for 4-5 months with weekly exercise and calorie deficit. I did Wegovy for a month and did a lot of walking and it didn't work for me last May. I had the worse side effects and I didn't lose any weight. I've had great results with mounjaro and the bad side effects have been much more minimal than with Wegovy. I started in January 2023 at 240, started Tirzepatide in June 2023 at 235 and I'm 185 as of right the end of January 2024 👍🏼 looking forward to hitting my goal weight of 140 👍🏼 (I'm also 5'5")
that's 50lbs amazing! I was 235 in June 2023 as well. Ive been working out with Diet and I have only lost down to 227lbs without anything. My doctor just prescribed this medication and Im looking forward to start. 50lbs down to 185lbs would be amazing for me! congrats! what dose did you start out at and what on now? I'm more then likely will be put on the lowest dose
Brit using it for first time. On starter dose appetite really suppressed. More so than when I was on the 2nd dosing of Ozempic. It’s FANTASTIC, have no desire food. It’s nothing like semaglutide. It’s the GIP. No side effects either. Less reflux than ozempic. I love it. In 6 days I’ve had 2 meals of soup + 1 pitta. The rest has been BITS of non white bread. I don’t care if it’s a carb - I’m still losing weight. Few oats here n there. Can’t wait to inject tomorrow.
I went from an A1c of 9 to an A1c of 5.3, so it does work very well to reduce blood sugar. I agree that weight loss is a bit harder for those with insulin resistance. My weight went from, 213 to 190, a loss of 23 lbs, which is nice but it was a lot of hard work. BTW, there are plenty of black users of Mounjaro who've reported significant weight loss from the medicine, so it's unlikely race has anything to do with how the drugs work. Also, in my opinion, metformin is a waste -- did nothing for me prior to Mounjaro.
I wouldn’t give that higher percentage of minorities or any other race a high weight loss this my yr anniversary down 38lbs and many others with or without comobilities hindering weight loss…”Overhyped”!!!!
@@maudestinelimbrick2445 Are you saying because you only lost 38 pounds, that GLP-1 / GIP drugs are overhyped? Did you combine it with diet and exercise?
btw after the first 2 months, I asked my PCP to take me off metformin, since it never really helped me the 7 years I was on it, it only caused GI issues for me. I take Amitiza now daily and weekly Mounjaro. I could never lose weight and it was because my A1C was high, not because I was lazy or anything. For years, I kept caloric intake under 1500 daily and did plenty of moderate exercise. My pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin to keep my blood sugars down, I have always had pancreas insufficiency. Mounjaro is a game changer for people like me.
Just started Mounjaro a week ago. I'm 57 type 2 diabetic. My appetite is gone totally. Have to make myself eat. I'm going to supplement more protein than I have been since I've stopped eating as much.
I am a 31 year old African American female and lost 32 pounds in just 10 weeks on 5 mg Zepbound, from 159 down to 127. I really don’t think there’s enough representation in the studies as suggested to say that we perform better or worse than other ethnic groups. I just don’t buy it from my personal experiences and others. I follow many black RU-vidrs who have had equal if not better success as me. Until I reached maintenance dose I averaged 2-3 pounds of weight loss per week, without stalling whatsoever and I have PCOS which makes weight loss even harder.
I started mounjaro 11 weeks ago , I'm Hispanic 46 yrs old, with type 2 diabetes . I weighed 256 when I started ,I changed my diet the same day. No bread no tortillas no junk , just Greek yogurt eggs , lean meats , salads light dressing, fruits and vegetables, and protein shakes , on the weekend I'll have a protein burger, in and out. No fries no sodas , I dropped my calorie intake probably in half . I now weigh 198. I've lost 58 pounds. I started weight training now and taking daily vitamin, and no longer on metformin or high blood pressure pills. My A1C is at 5.4 , by the numbers I don't have diabetes anymore, but I just hope it continues like this .I feel fantastic , oh my dosage was 2.5 the whole time , so I think if u can change the actual diet ,u will do well.
I’m Latino (Puerto Rico) started at 280 and in 4 weeks using 5mg of Mounjaro I’m at 255. Already loose 4” inches from my waist. The only side effect I have is a slower digestion process the same day I apply the medication.

Am 71 year old British, white female, non diabetic. Starter weight 210lbs. Started mid April 2024. Lost 7lbs first three weeks on Mounjaro 2.5 starter dose, was exercising doing aqua aerobics 3x weekly. Had no appetite but ate poached eggs, fresh salmon vegetables, chicken and fruit in small meals. Had slight flatulence, indigestion, was not constipated. Went up to Mounjaro 5mg at end of first week on 5mg and before 2nd dose, had terrible diarrhoea for 5 days, could hardly eat, lost a further 7lb. Went back down to starter dose of 2.5 no longer have diarrhoea but am constipated, no appetite but no further weight loss in last two weeks have plateaued at 196 lbs, feeling lethargic. Will restart on higher dose of 5 mgs in 10 days and see what happens.
Been on Mounjaro since 8/22 with a starting weight of 210 and current weight of 169. I am on 15mg as a maintenance dose and hover between 168 and 172. Non diabetic 60yr old male, 5' 11'' I have 0 side effects currently and plan to be on this for life.
I’m a 33-year-old African male, and I’ve been on Mounjaro for 10 days, during which I’ve lost 13 lbs. As a non-diabetic on a 2.5 mg dose, I’m looking forward to increasing it. I haven’t experienced any side effects or cravings
Wow congratulations! I am 39, with t2. Taking hbp medication and iron due to anemia. Taking metformin as well. I started ozempic early last year and didn’t drop my A1c. I stopped ozempic for 4 months…I started mounjarou on Wednesday…I can’t wait for my a1c to drop. 😊
Im on Zepbound/Mounjaro and have lost 53% of my weight over 15 months. Most of my weight loss occurred on the lowest dose of 2.5mg. I am not diabetic and stayed on a reduced caloric intake, run daily and do weight training. I have also had other great medical benefits that I needed. Your highlights from the study are very enlightening and helpful.
I'm taking mongero now for a month and I've lost 18 lb. I was a severe diabetic. I was taking five shots a day. I've now used a little bit of long-term insulin which is a third of what I was using on the long-term and I'm only on the 2.5 dose so far and my blood sugars have been in range 95% of the time
I enjoyed taking Mounjaro. It helped me keep my A1C down really good, plus helped me loose weight. But now I can't afford to buy it at the price of 227.00. And I also take Metformin. I'll be glad to see the price come down on Mounjaro.
I am a 48yr old African American. I've been on Mounjaro for 3 mths and have lost 5 pounds and will gain it back. I have type 2 diabetes. I eat much less and still will only lose inches. I was previously on Ozempic which did absolutely nothing for me, so I asked my endo if I could try Mounaro. I will say its improved my daily numbers significantly. I started on 10mg.
Im a 67 man been on Mounjaro for 5 months an i lost 42lbs so far with no side effects at all. Im on 12.5 an going up to 15 in 2 weeks also my blood sugar went from 170 to now 89. What it does for me is just makes me not hungry so i don't crave food

I had to loose weight to have surgery. Changed my diet and lost 45 lbs in 2 months and got my A1C low enough to have surgery on my shoulder. I started Mounjaro and it was amazing how it stopped the cravings. I have been on it for 8 months and have lost 181 lbs. I’m type 2 diabetic. Also I only eat 1,200 to 1,300 calories a day for The first 8 including 2 months prior to starting mounjaro. I have no side affects I only take 2.5mg a week. The low dose is because I’m eating much better. A dietitian said no caffeine sugar stay away from bread, pasta, and rice. All these things make sugar in your body. Some of us stored it as fat.. this works for me. Help me to avoid gastric bypass surgery.
I started mounjaro 5 months ago..lost over 40 lbs😊👍but it's not magic..exercising helps while using it and im only on minimum dose! I tried trulicity before after told it also makes lose weight but did not..it's not listed as for weight loss..I did research and I chose mounjaro..reports of less muscle loss on mounjaro
Just turned 69, weight training 3x a week, 125g of protein a day, no health issues, no medications. Gastric bypass 14 years ago-starting weight 365- lost 150# in 8 months. Slowly regained 50 over 10 years. Started Mounjaro in Feb and have lost 30#. The only side effect I have recently experienced is fatigue. This med has taken away all snacking and triggers. Would definitely recommend.
48yo caucasian female. Started semaglutide 8/3/23 at 215lbs. Changed to trizepetide 2/4/24 and am at 5mg. Starting weight was 182 and am currently 170.5. Hoping to continue to lose weight without having to increase dosage again. 25lbs to go.
I was increased by my doctor up 10 mg and I suddenly developed side effects of stomach pain and nausea at the 10 mg dose of mounjaro. I have lost 44 pounds in 4 months and my A1c dropped to 5.3. I was disappointed I couldn’t go past the 7.5 mg dose considering how much mounjaro has helped. I still need to lose another 40 pounds and I’m concerned if I stay at 7.5 mg will I continue to loose weight?? Has anyone not went to the max dosage of 15 mg and continued to loose weight? I’ve read 2.5 mg and 5 mg are the maintenance doses. I think 7.5 mg is going to be my max dose. I just hope I can continue to loose weight at 7.5 mg. I believe because mounjaro isn’t a semaglutide, but a similar class, I was able to tolerate it. Ozempic was a painful experience.
I can’t wait to start this 🙌🏼✅🕺🏽. I just need to lose 50 lbs, going from a large to small. I hate going to the gym. I’m fairly good at eating and getting daily walks. I just want to be in the small size category again.
Hi, I need to decide about this. My Dr has given me a prescription, I’m yet to get it. I’m worried about the side effects. Can you pls tell me more about why you recommend MJ? P.s. sorry to bother a “stranger” but I have no one to ask about the experience.
I'm a 70 yr old white dude type 2 diabetic on Metformin. After 3 months of Mounjaro 2.5 my weight loss hasn't been impressive. I went from low 190s to low to mid 180s and stalled out. An improvement but pretty expensive in my health plan.
I am 6 weeks into my journey with Mounjaro, I am starting to lose weight but most important is my blood sugar. I am a type 2 diabetic, and I have been in this condition since 2005. I have tried and tried for years to get my sugars under control and it is very difficult for me. Since being on Mounjaro, my sugar levels have dropped and now consistently range between 90 and 115. I have dropped my insulin intake by about 40% (Toujeo). There seems to be a bit of controversy regarding Mounjaro, but its primary purpose is for type 2 diabetes control and it is working very well for me. I need to lose weight, but sugar control is my primary goal -- and it is working great. I took Trulicity for a couple of years, and it did not help much. It could be I was taking a low dose (1.5mg). All medicines have some side effects, but for me the end result is worth the cost. I took Metformin for years, but it started to make me sick to my stomach so my Dr. took me off from it.
This sickens me. Here's the routine; get thin and monetize your body image so that you can consume expensive and high caloric foods, Buy expensive drugs to counter act the food, then try to manage the side effects. This is the USA at it's worst.
How is mounjaro on daily glucose/blood sugar prick testing mornings and evening. Can someone tell me I'm just about to start on mounjaro. How are people's energy levels for example going to the gym
I thought Mounjaro was supposed to target diabetics. Like this guy, Shady doctors are deliberately creating shortages by focusing on weight loss at the expense of diabetics!

I am a 38, black woman non diabetic and have lost 37.8 pounds in 6 months. At the beginning of this year my insurance stopped covering mounjaro for non diabetic so now I am looking for alternatives. Has anyone been successful with weight loss using metformin alone? The cause of my struggle with weight is insulin resistance and being pre-diabetic. Thanks.
I’m taking for diabetes. Absolutely no weight loss after two months. Blood sugar level seems to be steadying a bit. Have made diet changes and am active. Discouraged.
Female in my 40's. I started Mounjaro nearly a year ago. I've been stuck at around 35 pounds loss the last 6 months. It has helped me a lot, but I still have a lot to lose. I went on Mounjaro when my blood sugar revealed diabetes. I haven't quite gotten to 15 mg yet, but will likely do that soon. It has helped my numbers a lot, but realistically I need to lose another 50 pounds yet at least.
Hey how is it going now? I'm finding this drug is a tool, not a cure, and it still takes a lot of hard work to control calorie intake and make the right food choices.
I started at 205 lbs and have dropped to 185 lbs and staying there for the last 3 weeks. But I'm good with that because I work out 3 times a week and dont have much body fat. I've been on Mounjaro for 11 weeks now.
@@anakayyy you can get it at any pharmacy but i get it from Express Scripts and/or Walgreens pharmacy. My insurance covers it. I only $25 and the insurance pays the rest which is about $960
I wish these drugs were available in Canada for non-diabetics. I am currently on Saxenda and while it seemed to work initially, it is doing nothing for me now 6+ months after starting it. I feel I need something stronger for weight loss but it is out of reach at this time. Frustrating, for sure. I will continue to educate myself and appreciate your videos, Dr Yeung.
Zepbound, which is basically Mounjaro but approved for weight-loss use, should be approved in Canada sometime in 2024. Also, Mounjaro has as of this very month become available in Canada, and could be used off-label for weight-loss, assuming your doctor is willing.
@@cloakster Thanks for your insight. My doctor is very willing but my benefits plan is not - they will check to see if I am diabetic and decline me for off-label usage. I feel blessed that I have some coverage for WL drugs but not under this scenario.
If you have some coverage for WL drugs, then I’d just wait for Zepbound to show up in Canada (sometime in 2024). It’s literally exactly just Mounjaro under a different name and with an indication/approval for weight-loss. But, it may take a few months after Zep’s release for it to show up as covered in your insurance company’s formulary - assuming they do actually wind up covering it. 🤷♂️
I am a 42 year old African American woman. Four months on Mounjaro... one month on 2.5 and lost 5 LBS, 2 months on 5 no weight loss and finally on 7.5, no weight loss. I also take Metformin Glipizide and, pioglitazone. I'm a type 2 diabetic with an A1C of 7 diagnosed within the past 5 years. I keep an active vegetarian lifestyle, but I do take a high does of Seroquel, which I hear can stall weight loss or make you gain.... I'm not sure where I fit .
@mrjamesflores I started it at a BMI of 29 and am currently at a BMI of 24. I'm taking a dose of 2.5mg and aim to get to a BMI of 21. I've been highly responsive to it and only used the 5mg dose for a month before realising it was working too well and I was dropping too quickly. I'm very happy and healthy at the current 2.5mg dose losing close to a kilo a week. Once I get to my goal weight I will probably do a maintenance dose of 2.5mg every 2 weeks.
@bernitaewing7841. Stay on the Mounjaro 2.5 mg for now don't titrate so fast. Stay as low as you can as long as your losing weight, because once get to 15mg there's no where else to go. I regret moving up to Mounjaro 5mg
@@Charmed4eva1 If someone is losing, and insurance permits it they should stay on that dose for as long as possible. Low dosing is best and I'm listening to a lot of health care providers advocating this. As an RN myself I feel that's best also. I've taken Mounjaro 2.5 mg for eight weeks and titrated up to 5mg and that's where I'd like to stay. This is a long journey, not a fast race only to gain all over again.
Very interesting- I’m 59 yr old female on mounjaro since Aug 2023 and went from 175 lbs to 163 lbs. This was in first 3 months on 2.5. Nothing since moving to 5 in November and struggling to keep the weight I lost off. My A1C went from 7.5 to 6 so that’s good but I was wondering why I’m not seeing weight loss like others.
I lost 10 pounds the first three weeks, but I wasn't eating I was nauseated ....finally feeling better, not eating much...stops loosing weight....7 weeks taking the medication.
@Dr. Yeung - Just as a heads-up… I notice you keep saying Wegovy as WEH-GUH-VEE. This doesn’t seem to be correct… heard Novo’s CFO in an interview, and he says it as WEH-GOH-VEE. 2nd syllable ‘Go’, like as in ‘Go ahead’. No biggie, just though you might wanna be accurate, considering you’re probably stuck talking about Wegovy for at least the next 3 years or so (‘til CagriSema, Retatrutide, etc fully obsolete it). And, as I said elsewhere… great vid. Keep on keepin’ on, Doctor. 👍
Yep. I wonder how many pronunciations of Mounjaro are out there? I've counted several: Moon-jawr-owe (Moon as in soon; jar as in car), Moun-jawr-owe (Moun as in mountain), Mun-jawr-owe (Mun as in sun) , Mun-jer-owe (jer as in Jerry), Moun-jer-owe (Moun as in mountain; jer as in Jerry). Zepbound will probably be pronounced as Zeep-bound by some, but I have no idea how Canadians will pronounce it. Personally, I think Zepbound is a dumb name and should have been something like Zeptide, or maybe Zeparol.
