Wow, what ever happened to good ol’ fashioned tire glue? Or even if the original manufacturers of tire glue went out of business, rubber cement? I used to use some exotic rubber compounds (pretty much meant for Nitro On-Road) back in my 1/10th scale pan car days, using a Kimbrough tire horn (not sure if they still make it). 1) Basically, you scuff the wheel surface, with a medium/fine sandpaper, clean off the dust with a damp rag, and let dry. 2) With a dedicated brush (or the brush supplied in the cap of must rubber cements), you coat both the mounting surface of the wheel and the inner surface of the foam with the glue and let it set a bit to ensure you have coated it liberally and evenly. 3) Put some lacquer thinner in a plastic paint bucket enough to completely dunk the tire and wheel) and dip them briefly. 4) Slide the foam on the wheel using the horn, and adjust it on the wheel, placing it face down on a flat surface to make sure it goes evenly across the outer edge of the wheel. You usually have about 5 minutes to set the tire properly before the glue starts to set. 5) Wait 24 hours, and the tire is ready for trueing. You can recycle your wheels (if they haven’t been damaged) by submerging the used tires in lacquer thinner again for about 6-10 hours to break down the glue - the foam will slide right off, as the glue will have broken down completely. I never had a tire that I mounted fail on me. :)
Hello Eugen, Welcome to 1/12th scale racing! It's a bit of a steep learning curve at first, but soon enough you'll you get the hang of it. As for CA glue, you want to have a slow curing glue. Not super slow, but enough to get the foam tire cementer to the wheel. I am using Kawada glue which I would consider a medium consistency, not fast acting CA.
