I have worn a Glycine Combat Sub, every day for 3 years now.... this is an extremely good watch. tough as fuck, looks good, turns the heads of watch snobs. and stands up to being treated like a tool watch. mine varies by about a min every 2 weeks. my first automatic, and I have zero regrets.
I bought two combat subs one a auto the other a quartz , one for work in the week the other just to look smart AF with some serious clobber...but i still want the all blackout that looks absolutely amazing with the black bracelet, black bezel, black face etc and i is absolutely dangerous looking like it could cut you for tinyest mistakes LoL, so yeah so glad i found glycine the watch brand ..
Great review. I just got a Glycine GL0433 with a rubber strap. I'm amazed at how slim it is. Thinking of putting a Milanese bracelet on it. Fantastic watch!
With only a 6" wrist I still bought the sub. Like you say the thin case and curved lugs mean I can just get away with it's 42mm size. Love the variety of colours and finishes. Went for matt grey hands and yellow lume, luv it! The standard strap is way too big so works best for me on a one piece perlon or short Colareb vintage. Well done Colareb for offering a short strap option for smaller wrist. Love the chanel BTW, hello from grey rainy Preston!!
The dial is incredibly legible. Nothing's worse than looking at a watch and having to *think* about what time it is. The lume on the second hand is a nice touch, too. Another good one TGV!
Dear TGV, I love your channel and reviews of watches. I myself a am 16 year old and though I don't have much money I still do have a 7 watch collection with a few timex pieces, a Bulova, and soon a Seiko in the next day or so. But high respects and I hope you keep up the lovely work. Best regards, Matt Armato
Recently, I purchased the Glycine combat sub GL0077 steel diving watch. I did my own research, and in the end, it was between Glycine, Hamilton, and Luminox, and it was tough in making the decision. I thought Glycine was the best value for the money and quality.
I joined your channel a week ago and have not stopped watching. I am looking for a daily watch to add to my collection. You have talked about the Squale and the Glycine as military watches. have you don videos that give the history of these watches and their Military histories. Great channel. Thank you
Thank you so much Tim, welcome aboard! I have covered both brand extensively in more recent videos. Check out the Airman and the Squale 60 Atmos ;-) Best regards, TGV
Hi TGV, Thanks for the detailed review. I'm still impressed of the thinness of the Combat Sub! And beside your review, the catalog was another highlight for me. I have to admit that I have only looked up the classic models so far. But it seems there are quite a few other models that are worth a deeper inspection! So, I would like to see more Glycine watches on your channel in the near future! It would be nice to see a 36mm in comparison with a 42mm. All the best, Claus
+Claus-L. Müller (CLMac66) Thank you Claus, I feel a reawakened excitement for this brand. I too was not aware of the stunning range they have. Cant wait to explore Glycine further. Best regards, TGV
I just want to chime in that I love my Glycines. I started with a Airman Base 22 which is very thin considering it's diameter and the thinness is the reason I chose to buy it. I was so impressed with the quality, value, wearability and accuracy that I went out and bought a Combat Sub as well. As you mentioned, Glycine holds their brand very well and it's is quite unique. Not just another submariner or GMT homage. I would love to add more of their range to my collection.
TGV. I have been watching your videos. I am a new watch enthusiast and your videos are just great fun. I have learnt a lot from your videos about watches. Love your professional approach to the reviews. You have now got me buying watches from your reviews. Just bought a Glycine Combat Sub GL0084. Now looking at Fortis 😊
Glycine deserves much more attention and respect than they currently receive. I see them on par with Hamilton and Tissot. The Airman and combat sub lines are strong enough to keep the brand going. They suffer from poor marketing and inconsistent pricing. Their heavily discounted prices give the impression of them being cheap when that’s not the case. They should have been part of the swatch group. The brand needs to make some organizational changes.
It's a common question but a simple answer. I wear white gloves reviewing all watches, no matter how much or how little they cost. It reflects light onto the watch, helps my camera focus, defines the outline better, I can quickly wipe smudges off as I shoot and is less distracting for the viewer. Hence, why always white gloves. I hope that makes sense, thank you for watching. Best regards, TGV
Hello. You might want to revise the video to state that since Invicta purchased Glycine, the dealer where you obtained this watch for review, Salzman's, no longer carries the brand. I called Salzman's, with the salesman stating that since the Invicta acquisition, all Glycine watches are now sold soley via the Invicta network. He did state that the watches are still being manufactured at the same Glycine facility since the early 20th century. I have found them on Amazon but they only offer the Amazon warranty, not the manufacture warranty. Regards.
Love the Airman... Yes, please try to do a review on one soon...I've gotten quite an education on brands that I've never really been exposed to since subscribing. Always enjoy your understated and classy presentations.
I just bought one on the stainless bracelet for 289 plus tax. It arrived today. No lug holes but it does have the original Glycine logo on the dial. Beautiful watch!
I love Glycine watches. I think I understand the acquisition of Invicta now. Despite many watch enthusiasts hating on Invicta, they do very well. Glycine on the other hand we’re struggling to stay afloat. And invicta was there for the opportunity. They can help each other in their respective markets.
Hello TGV, So many fantastic reviews from this channel! I'm looking for a good gmt watch and researching glycine, I saw the airman dc4. I would love to see a review of this watch on this channel. Also, it's a 42mm size so it might actually fit on your wrist. Best, Johann
Mine arrived yesterday. Apart from the near impossibility of adjusting the strap, it’s perfect! Such quality. On a par with omega etc. TGV, a question. You say the movement is a modified 2824-2. Modified? Based on what? I saw someone opened one and it looked vanilla: the rotor wasn’t even marked.
Its arrived this morning, a really really nice watch indeed. Initially seems small after taking off my G Shock Rangeman lol. Its so comfy it really is and I'll stick with the black rubber strap I think, I like it. Thanks for dropping this one on my radar and keep up the great work.
Love your channel. We just got in a blacked out sub combat at Costco with lum numbers and hands. I think I'm gonna have to grab it now. Would love to know what tool you use to swap out bands.
Great review (as always) on a beautiful watch! But could it be possible that there are a few scratches on the bezel? Or is there a protective plastic foil on it?
Glycine has just been acquired by Invicta Watches, now Invicta will have direct access to a swiss watch company. Ive just bitten the bullet and gotten a used Glycine Combat Sub Golden Eye for my dive-watch collection from fleebay. Here's hoping Ive made the right decision! But at under USD$600 delivered with no taxes, its worth the nail-bitting!
Hello Steve, I just bit the bullet for a Glycine Combat Sub as well. I got the brown with silver case/crown one (serial #'s are extremely long). Heres to hoping we both made the right decision! haha
I have the golden eye but Im thinking of getting a second when the exchange rate pushes me over the edge to buy. Im thrilled with mine as its wrist presence is perfectamundo! I did change the clasp from the standard one to a butterfly/button one from eBay (small $5 investment) and its made the world of difference to my liking it. Aiming for a shark-mesh one on the next combatsub...
Steve so hows the quality for under 500.00? been eyeeing em for a while bow on evine. just cannot seem too hit the buy button yet. can u compare to any other watch?
Just bought my second, first was the goldeneye and now i have the blue/gold sub and all I can say is WOW and for the $ they are the biz. Glad I didnt pay the money they are asking for more expensive brands (some of which I have) as its on par at 1/3 the price! Highly recommended. For this sort of money i could afford more than one, which was nice too. Its swiss, quality is awesome. I expect it to get better with the injection to the supply line and cash Invicta will bring to the party too. So a 3rd when they do something new maybe. Its a HUGE step up from the same street priced Invictas and not as gaudy/heavy. Along with steinhearts, i can whole heartedly say YES, best cash ive spent with zero regrets (unless you count lack of additional arms to ware them all at once)
+Bertrand Deleval You are most welcome, great question. I would have to say the Glycine if I had to choose between the too, tough one! Both amazing. Cheers, Best regards, TGV
silkhead44 evine.com still has them for a little over 400.00 and u can get it delivered in 2 days with their super express shipping. they currently stock them because theyre owned by invicta now.
I just sent an Airman 18 back today because I thought it was simply to small and I have a 7" wrist. The only other option is a 46mm and that is to big for me.
love the videos, informative and classy. thank you very much. noob here looking to add to my collection, I like the orient ray raven 2 and Seiko sna411. but now after watching this video I want a glycine sub. currently jomashop has the black glycine sub with brown strap for $549. would you get a)just the glycine for that price, or b) get both the flighty and ray raven 2?
amazing watch. I like the combat 6 black dial 36mm. I want to go for it but I also love the seiko sari 017 Alpinist and I don't want to buy two pieces at the same time. Fantastic review once again.
+Ana Isidro Thats a tough choice! However, what ever you choose you win, if this Glycine is anything to go by, they are both great watches. Good luck, thanks for sharing, Best regards, TGV
Your video contains exactly what I am looking for, as I am starting some preliminary research on a mid-level Swiss Diver Style watch. I am a huge fan of Movado, and the Series 800 fits what I am looking for, but since I already own five Movado time pieces, as a watch collector, I would like to broaden my horizon into some other fine watch brands out there, like Glycine. I hit the WUS forum reading lots of posts and scrolling through lots of watches narrowing down my search to a few brands that I thought were worthy. This, coupled with some of your videos, I decided that whenever I am ready to make the purcahse, my choice would be Glycine. Howeve, I am curious if your thoughts have changed ragarding Glycine as a Company, and as a maker of “quality” time pieces, considering the partnership with Invicta that took place a couple years ago in 2016? I can’t quite put my finger on as to why, but to be honest, recently finding this out through research has made me rethink my choice...thoughts?
This watch is a winner! Especially like how thin the case is. In the $1000.00 price category there are many to choose from. I'm going to take a closer look at it, maybe one I'd like to own. Very interesting as always TGV.
+The Urban Gentry ...... My thoughts are exactly the same as yours with this piece, 1- smaller diameter 2- 20mm lug width 3- should have kept the Logo. Strap widths are a "pet peeve" of mine, watches with 42mm or less should always have a 20mm strap.
Hello Mr.TGV. I have a Glycine Combat the likes of which I haven't seen again! It has a cyclops in the sapphire crystal over the date,a Red and White Swiss flag above the Arabic 6,Orange diver's timer on a black bezel-and the lugs are Not too long! Ever heard of it? Thanks very much,x Marcello
Hi TGV, Great review and its finally convinced me to press the trigger on the same model. It would appear to be the older model with the Glycine Logo on the dial but at a 45% discount off rrp it wasnt a difficult decision to make. Would you know if there is any other difference between the old and new model ???? Anyway looking forward very much to your comparison between the Squale and the Glycine - I have no idea which will come out on top !!! Kindest Regards, Paul J
Just took delivery of this one from an EU authorised dealer. It has the logo above the Gylcine but the lugs aren't drilled, which I'm a bit disappointed at and no SL after Swiss Made. Very, very nice though, all in all.
The stealth colorway might be my next watch purchase Currently debating between this, the gw9400 rangeman, the glycine airman, or wait for the next gulfmaster and gravitymaster
Good morning from Arizona! Do you know what is the relation between Glycene and Invicta? Is it made by Invicta? Is that a good or bad thing? Forgive my ignorance, I love watches but I'm trying to learn more about this brand especially automatics, I do like some of In Invicta watches but I believe they make some watches in China if I'm not wrong, should I get one that is not made by Invicta? Meaning an older model, thank you for any information.
Freezeframe at 12:23. The thinness is 10mm TGV. Don't undersell it by saying it's 11mm! jk ; ) It's a smashing watch, I have almost exactly the same one myself, except I have the crown logo on the dial, which is great. I use a grey nato on it and a mesh bracelet. If you have the 1521 bracelet, you should try that. Quite a killer combination!
+officialpartychannel Fantastic to hear, thanks for sharing that. I cant wait to take a look at more combat subs. Grey nato must look killer! Thanks for sharing my friend. Best regards, TGV
+Nevillius NICE!!! congrats, sure it will love amazing. For me, brown goes well with olive, sand, grey, and black. Thanks for sharing, enjoy it! Best regards, TGV
+Rocky Mountain DT Ok David, you are the third to request it and I am certainly interested too so I will add it to the top of the list. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
Invicta have picked up this brand now and this combat sub now only costs around $300. But it has all flat printed face and a weakly placed logo on the crown...it's not the same watch anymore. Pity...but very affordable now.
Welcome to Glycine, love my Airman 2000 purist, except the lumen not good on my Watch. Eta 2893-2 adj. to 5 position running + 2 seconds a day. Original wood box to ! Highly recommended had to get my watch in Ireland.
+Werner Blazejewski Hello Werner, Sounds fantastic, I certainly will get an Airman in to review. Top of my hit list. Enjoy your Airman, thanks for sharing. Best regards, TGV
Amazing watch, hope your having fun in England. Would be awesome if you made a video showing your favorite spots in the English countryside and why you love it. Similar to your videos about NYC
Great review : interesting to discover this brand with a true history . On my wish list for Christmas ! ......... or maybe the Golden eye . Best regards .
Great review TGV. It's a nice watch, but there are so many watches (Squale, Sinn) in the 1000$-1500$ range that I would take over this Glycine. They should bring the price down a bit, for 750$ I would certainly buy one.
+Martijn Groot Totally understandable, however I don't think there are any Sinn watches under $1000 that can come close to the combat Sub, the Squale 1521 is he only direct threat to it. Stay tuned for the duel. Thanks Martijn, Best regards, TGV
TGV, I'm thinking about purchasing either the Combat Sub or Oris Aquis for my first "higher-end" piece. I'm a college student so this is a considerable investment. Which watch would you recommend? I wear my SKX almost every day, I honestly feel that if it's movement was hackable and hand winding, it would be perfect. Everything about the case design, proportions, etc seem absolutely perfect to me. Knowing this, which watch would you recommend? Or perhaps some other watch? 1200 is the absolute max. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Great review thanks! Hey, you promised in an earlier video to explain why you wouldn't swim in a pool or go in the shower with a 100m/10bar water resistant watch. Could you please let us know? Thanks and keep up he good work, Dave
+Dave Higgins Hi Dave, great question. ITs very simple actually. Its simply to do with water resistance. I would not personally swim with anything less then 200m WT, I certainly will do a video on it soon. However there is a long list of videos to get throughout but I will get there eventually. Thank you. Best regards, TGV
+InoxEdge It does indeed! I am temped to buy that pocket watch just because it just so beautiful, no practical use what so ever, but so damn cool right? Will move the Airman to the top of the list ;-) Great comment, Thank you. Best regards, TGV
+The Urban Gentry it's a complete nightmare! I prefer the hands on the black/black and black/steel versions but the lume on the Arabic dial versions looks awesome, which is a big deal for me. I wan't a bracelet though, so if I'm buying new that narrows it down to either the blue/orange or black/green (both look fantastic). And I prefer the white on black date window so that only leaves black/green...but the black/black and black/orange versions look amazing...like I say, a nightmare :)
Nice review TGV, as beautiful as normally :) I dare you to do a Glycine Combat versus the Seiko Shogun battle, which is the best seiko diver for around the 1000 dollars mark.
+Great destiny man That sounds like a great idea. I will see what I can do. Seiko Shogan review is long over due, thanks for sharing, Best regards, TGV
I have read a lot of discussion on changing opinions of Glycine watches since the Invicta purchase. I honestly can't speak to any changes, I am a buyer not an insider. However, as someone who just purchased a Glycine Combat Sub on the grey market at 80% discount, here is what I can share. I bought a watch with the Sellita Caliber SW200 Automatic movement 26 Jewels and has a power reserve of approximately 38 hours (SW200 usually found in watches in the 1500-2000 range such as Oris). Scratch resistant sapphire crystal. Screw down crown. 200 meters water resistant. I think it's an incredible deal.
+Bob FromBrisbane Sorry to hear that Bob, maybe I can help. Let me see if Saltzman's will ship world wide. Shame to miss out, they are a truly great brand, I feel a bit late to the party myself. Best regards, TGV
+Jared Walker Great idea, Would love to, whoever wins will take on the CWard. I will reach out to them when I get back to NYC in the new year, stay tuned, thank you. Best regards, TGV
