Various aspects of the GM 8L45 / 90 eight speed RWD models will be addressed. The 8L transmission family was released starting in 2015 in Cadillac, Corvette and SUV applications. Although overall operation is similar to the ZF 8HP applications, transmission architecture is strictly GM. Specific problems have been ongoing and require a more focused approach to repair. Validate the complaint, refer to all relevant TSB’s and communicate with the customer before attempting to repair.

The Mobil fuild swap fixed the shudder in my transmission, but it does have a hard shift going from 1st to second most of the time. Other than that it runs perfectly smooth.

I never noticed a problem with mine (2017 sierra) until it suddenly developed a severe shudder (violent intermittent shaking of the. steering wheel. Warranty replacement of valve body/ fluid change resolved that issue. I suspect I’m hypersensitive to it but it still shudders mildly while at low rpm’s under load. Lurches when cold. Occasional hard shifts and delayed engagement. If it was a someone else’s truck I wouldn’t worry about it and would just drive it. Which is my only option anyway now that it’s no longer GM’s problem. I sure wish I could have a modern truck built with the simplicity of a 50 year old one.

'19 colorado 4wd slams into gear when downshifting any ideas what that could be did the flush seemed to have fixed the shutter other than still slams into gear usually about every 5 times sometimes when i'm passing someone it slams into gear.

Gm replaced my torque converter, fluid flush and software update and it worked for about 1500 miles. Now it's right back to the it was. I hate this transmission. I started having problems right at 2800 miles.

Is the new Mobil atf gm use the best fluid or do you suggest something else? Thx

To date, the Mobile ATF seems to be the best stuff however, it's not bulletproof, due to transmission and torque converter design. To utilize the fluid would certainly be a good start.

Any opinion on the cause or fix of the shutter issues with these transmissions?

Flush per GM TSB with the new blue label fluid seems to fix 90+%. I felt shudder 2 times and got it flushed, no issues since. I'm very happy with the performance of my 8l45. I run in M mode and seldom use 7th or 8th gear. 4th and 5th for most all in town driving, improved gas mileage and performance.
