This is why I drive a 2002 impala. It has a 3800 v6 and a decent transmission. Its build quality is great and everything including the AC still works! It barely has over 100k miles on it and I paid $450 for the vehicle.
I am lucky. Retired and live in a small town of less than 10,000 people and have a grocery store within walking distance. When my car finally bites the dust in a few years I ca n just take a walk to the grocery store. There are also buses in my town that will take you around town.
@MrPoppyDuck a friend of mine bought a Ford Lightning EV. It is a joke. He pulled his boat to a lake that was just under 2 hours away. He had to stop 1 time and let the truck change for 30 minutes just so he could make it to the lake. Before he could take the boat home he had to change the truck for 5 hours.
At that price it should just come loaded to the hills and no options available except maybe different wheels or bedcovers/bug deflectors, windoe visors etc.
As a general rule, if politicians, corporations, and NGOs tell you should get something- they all have stock in it. Or they own some of the kids working in the cobalt mines. Either or.
Newer batteries do not utilize cobalt due to its high price.. Batteries cost is droping 50% this year alone. Manufacturers that realy want to make an ev can sell it for the same price as an ICE car. The ones that donot will dissapear in less than 5 years from today.
You're just a youngster. Our first house was $4,000 (a small, 3 bedroom ranch on an acre). My first car was $995, (but it was a 4 year old VW, so that's not really fair. But I wanted it instead of a new Pinto at $1995.
We have a Ram 1500 and a Tesla Model Y. I also have dirt bikes too. The model y was cheap compared to $94k and it’s an awesome car. We love it!! I think it’s a great car for those that need one gas suv for the mountains and long trips. Drive the electric around town. We love it!
I'm 72yo and l will keep driving my 1990 F150 4WD and my 1979 Mercedes Benz 280 SEL, for as long as possible. I have no intention of ever buying any of these new overpriced crappy motor vehicles or an electric vehicle. They are all junk!!
Don't companies do feasibility studies anymore? How many farmers or construction workers will spend 90k for a PU that gets a 5k dent if you drop a 2x4 in the bed and has to be plugged in every 150 miles?
Small vehicles aren't made any more by big manufacturers, at least not in the US. They can't fleece you if they make a cheap vehicle and that is why they love to bring out these big giant vehicles that have 14 different cameras, heated seats, 5 speed automatic transmission, the "Connected Driving Experience" and so on. They include all of these things so they can upcharge you, and that's why newer vehicles are getting ridiculously priced to 40-50k on the cheap end, and 80k+ on the high end.
Obviously, you’re tied to oil and last century , Electric cars are here they’re clean, And they go over 250 miles 95% of the time in a day you go less than 40 miles And your opinion is virtually useless, sell your oil stock and getting a real world
Why not hybrids? I don't get the binary choice of engine attitude in this country, hybrids would go a long way toward carbon harm reduction without having to replace every gas station in America
I remember in 2022 that cringed Domino's pizza commercial with the lady saying Chevy Bolts EV is the next delivery car, and there's going to be thousands of them nationwide delivery pizzas to houses. That Commercial stopped showing on Air when 2023 came. Lol I wonder why
I recently went to Lexus dealership to order a new car. Much to my surprise, I was told that I may not get the car I specified because Lexus may not want to build the car I so3cified in the color I wanted and with the interior color I specified, because Lexus did not want to build it! Is 5his crazy or what?’
1st gen honda insight hybrid had a manual, that was a well built car. Produced in Japan only, aluminum body. I could get 75mpg on the highway. 1.0 3 cylinder, 2 seater, was fun to drive too.
In the US as of yesterday ICE vehicles sales has droped 8% while EV has increased by a 3.5%. One is continuosly decreasing in sales, while the other is growing at a steady rate. The total sales volume combined is decreasing, probably due to the high interes rates. Mos people can not afford a new car.
In Finland the Diesel was alot cheaper few years back and we have "diesel tax" for it. Now the diesel costs same as gasoline, but the car owners still have to pay the diesel tax/operating power tax on top of that.
I am hanging on to my car Scottie. Spent 6500.00 this year to fix it but it is a Toyota and I believe I can get another 100,000 out of it. Engine is strong
I live near a Ford dealership, you can drive behind the lot, they have tons of Lightning EV trucks, all of them are covered with birds poopy and tree sap cause they can’t sell those overpriced and junk cars. The cheaper one is $60k.
As many have said the only real current use for battery powered vehicles is small ones for kind of local use where they can be plugged in at home at night.
I go to a station that allows me to pump off-road diesel my truck doesn’t like to run on pump diesel. It’s it’s a 98 7.3 L Ford you got out a gallon of Treatment if you wanted to run pump fuel.
Im close to Southlake Texas and I daily see Teslas/Cybertrucks/Rivians/Broncos and even a few Bronco Raptors/F-150 Raptors every day/Ineos Grenadier / already seen the new Toyota Land Cruiser / tons of Range Rover Defenders / Corvettes / that stupid Lambo. suv / every other vehicle is a black Tahoe or Escalade with one person in it. LOL Lots of money around here, but no common sense.
Manual transmission replacements are not as cheap as they used to be and the replacements can break in 5,000, mi. It's not the reliable manual transmissions of yesteryear@@FrederickTheAnon14W
@mannyg923 people with jobs are questioning paying $90K for a pickup. If can’t make a living without, then figure out a way to make it work or find an alternative
No jobs? We have the highest number of jobs, job openings along with the lowest unemployment in history. With that said most cant afford $90k vehicles.
I have a job. Could even maneuver to afford a $90k truck. But I don't want to spend that much on any vehicle, let alone a sh!tty and/or unproven GM product. No Tesla in my driveway, either. Honda Civic, Ford Fusion and Ford F150 V8 all gas.
I would never buy an electric car...but i can see how in certain urban situations it would make sense. Seems like the makers should look to making ultra cheap, small, no frills versions to get young people to take the electric car plunge or maybe older people to try one for a 2nd car. These 90k electric trucks are stupid. No one is going to try those.
Mr. Kilmer, have you heard about the toyota Corolla GR catching on fire, a couple of them already have. The one reason Toyota said they can't help is because toyota said they were going at 85mph at one point. Which is the dumbest thing I ever heard of from Toyota, like isn't Toyota GR made to go fast like the type R. Toyota will definitely destroy the reputation by doing that. Incompetence is often what destroys a company.
Bronco or Jeep with standard transmissions? Guess I'm out of the market for manual SUVs, since I will never buy a Jeep/Fiat and Ford has gone downhill really fast in recent years.
I have to correct you Scotty about the subarus. The toyotas are not rebadged subarus. The FRS is 90% toyota only the engine is subaru. The Solterra is 99.9% toyota only the badges are subaru, both cars are using toyota diagnostic software too.
My neighbor has two golf carts, I don't understand why. Both are gas engines, one has a cab, A/C, heater, windshield wipers. The one with a cab has a base price of $39,000. And he has two cars, and there's just two people in the family. Crazy. And this isn't a warm climate, we're in MICHIGAN!
Why is the Silverado EV over $90,000 in the US, when I have seen them for sale by Dealerships up here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for under $84,000. Usually if the US price for a base model is $90,000, the Canadian price would be in the $120,000 - $130,000 region. What the hell is going on in this industry?
All I want in a vehicle is a decent radio, heat, A/C, and ABS. I don't need or have the money for TPMS, GPS, on board computers and sensors everywhere.
Diesel may cost more per gallon but costs less per mile. When I got 58mpg going to myrtle beach I did the math. I paid $.80 more per gallon for the diesel than low test gas. A car running on gas would have to get 48mpg to cost the same per mile. Back in 2013 there wasn't a new gas-powered car that got that while averaging 72mph
@Xxxyyyzzzaaa my 2013 tdi gold got 58 mpg going from PA to myrtle beach averaging 72mph. If I was driving in the middle of the country where it's flay or doing 65mph average I would have got in the 70+mpg range
GM isn't going to beat the competition at this point. There are too many other companies out there that have greater knowledge of electromagnetism that GM doesn't have.
Back in the 80's Old Chuck Harder called the last of the USA TV makers "screwdriver shops". I think he predicted the car and appliance industry as being likewise eventually.
Ford is bringing back a Capri that doesn't look anything like the "Capri"....how crazy is that? I'm buying a TDI diesel and I don't care as long as I don't have to pay 70 grant for a car I have to recharge twice a week with stupid electricity tax money.
And a car that doesn't cost 20-40k every 10-15+ years or so when the batteries eventually need to be entirely replaced. As Scotty said before, people were saying (And betting) that EV batteries would get better quality AND become cheaper, and they haven't. They've become worse quality and more expensive.
It's nice to know that Toyota still kind of have their senses about them and won't make the new Celica and new MR2's hybrids or electrics . I know a lot of people are going to be happy that the Celica is returning !!!!!
Who wants to pay $100,000 for any pickup truck much less a stupid electric pick up I guarantee you I never will I'll probably cap it at about $10,000 ole '97 Ford F-150 still that's probably still get another 25 or 30 years left in it ... Trump was talking today about how the infrastructure wasn't beefy enough to handle going all electric with the vehicles not only is there not enough electric to go around all the major long span Bridges would have to be reinforced or rebuilt to handle the extra weight
@@cindysue5474Chrysler? I can see them being no more within a decade. It's kind of comical, every time Consumer Reports ranks all 33/34 Car Manufacturers in order of most reliable, many times Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Fiat round out the bottom 4.
Is that per liter or per gallon? Incidentally, Ecuador and Colombia are the two most beautiful countries in the world. We have friends and relatives in both places. Political situation is touch and go sometimes, but the people, the climate and the landscapes are unmatchable.
What about salaries? Do you earn as much money to afford it and don’t affect your family necessities. I’m telling you cause my mom is Mexican, their gas prices is over USA ones and people struggle to fill up their cars, they don’t earn enough.
Time to roll out the old ev car blueprints from the 80's, and build them, they were affordable, and worked. Imagine them with our new battery technology.
Hey scotty i am looking for a car and my friend is a mechanic he said go with handa toyota or mazda i test drive a couple of all 3 brands and i like the mazda 3 hatchback the best My question. is the mazda3 hatchback reliability in the long term
Used Porsche for sure. I'd rather have one of them. A nice Cayman with a manual would be sweet. Or a C7 Corvette with a manual. That's one of my dream cars. Attainable dream cars that is.
To charge a battery in 15 minutes you still need a ginormous amout of electricity input -- where is that going to come from? A nuke behind each charging station? EVs versus the laws of physics and economics -- physics and economics win in the end every time.
Exactly! It reminds me of the situation in 2020 or 2021? When Texas had those BAD storms and a lot of people didn't have power, and as a result people couldn't charge their EV's. It really showed the weakness and massive flaws in EV's.
